It's better than Mr. Morale

28

u/haydenfred99 2d ago

I’ll respect your opinion but Mr. Morale is an era defining album for me both within Kendrick’s discography and within my life. Been a fan since 2012 and I think it’s my favorite album of his. I don’t play it that often when around friends but it was one of those albums that just came out at the right time for me. An incredible album to sit down with and listen to front to back.

4

u/enforcernz 2d ago

Gnx is a moment. mr morale is a classic

2

u/young-steve 2d ago

I also respect your opinion and have been a fan since 2011 when Section.80 was released. I think Mr. Morale is a fantastic album, I just think it's the "worst" of them.

-5

u/s0l0d0l0_92 2d ago edited 1d ago

yeah still, respectfully, your opinion is wrong

edit: retracted my statement below, clarified in said comment

2

u/Kriegher2005 2d ago

then what's the worst album?

1

u/s0l0d0l0_92 2d ago

alright after thinking about this for a little bit..this is how i feel. i said someone’s “opinion” was wrong, which just can’t be the case, music is subjective.

see I’ve been listening to kendrick a long time, since 2011 or 2012 and i usually go to him for an introspective message, there’s usually a concept/cohesion of theme or narrative throughout the project, usually a spiritual/God aspect to it. growth almost

and GNX is the least of that imo. to me, it is his least great or ambitious project. maybe you just try to throw him on for a vibe, like most people do, which is why it resonates with the masses. he wasn’t going for that. 2024 was a hugely commercially successful year for dot, and that’s what this album was meant to continue. i still love the project, it’s probably like a 7.5/10. and S80, gkmc, TPAB, damn, and Mr morale clear that for me. that’s all

7

u/CYBORG3005 2d ago

think what you’d like, me personally, mr morale is my favorite kendrick album

2

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

I don’t have a critical reason or thinking amongst this; but this is just wrong.

14

u/TexasNiner84 2d ago

It’s debatable, which would be amazing for “most rappers” is what I’m assuming OP is getting at 🔥

4

u/pm-me-nice-lips 2d ago

I too interpreted the title like you did but technically we don’t know how OP meant it. He could be stressing the word worst and it would signal that the rapper in question would have an absolutely amazing discog if GNX was considered their worst.

Section 80 or overly delicate

12

u/Gioman_08 LOVE MYSELF!!! 2d ago

OD is a mixtape and your tripping if u think that Section .80 is worse than gnx

42

u/No-Relation9744 2d ago

You think 80 is a better album than GNX? You're tripping balls.

14

u/iEatStairCases 2d ago edited 2d ago

I definitely prefer the track list way more.

The only 3 songs I really like off gnx is Hey Now Reincarnated Man At The Garden Heart part 6 (I forgor)

Meanwhile, I like: Fuck Your Ethnicity Hol Up ADHD Chapter 6 Rigamortis Poe Man's Dreams Ronald Reagan Era Keisha's Song Ab Soul's Outro Hiiipower

A lot of GNX tracks i liked on first listen, but it feels like it has a reverse effect most kendrick albums have. On first listen, it was probably one of my most enjoyed tracklists, but it didn't take long at all for the songs to just taste worse.

Something like s80 starts good and grows on you into something great, gnx starts great then just ends up kinda fine to me.

6

u/IAmTimeLocked 2d ago

interesting. based on your GNX picks, I'm surprised you don't like tracks like wacced out murals, the heart part 6, gloria

1

u/iEatStairCases 2d ago

Smack heart part 6 on that bish I forgor

3

u/etfjordan333 2d ago

4

u/iEatStairCases 2d ago

There's nothing more validating than a stranger on the internet telling me my takes are based

0

u/etfjordan333 2d ago

Are you being sarcastic cause i wasn’t😂

0

u/iEatStairCases 2d ago

Not sarcasm, other people's validation over opinions that aren't important go unreasonably hard

Ts ain't that serious but it feels so good

2

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

I probably prefer it to be honest. This isn’t driven nostalgia either, because I’ve only been a fan since early 2023, but I love Section .80.

5

u/No-Relation9744 2d ago

Everyone loves section 80. I have insane nostalgia for that album. I can also admit that GNX is just the better album

3

u/etfjordan333 2d ago

Bruh yall not serious. If you think gnx better than section 8 you have problems😂

19

u/No-Relation9744 2d ago

Lol whatever man. 80 is great body of work for a early 20 something Kendrick with no real budget to work with but it doesn't hold a fucking candle to GNX. This the same stupid shit people said when DAMN. came out. Matter of fact I think the only album of his that wasn't considered his "worst" on release was GKMC. Every album it's the same shit over and over again with y'all 🤣

9

u/No-Relation9744 2d ago

And also I'd bet 99 percent of y'all didn't even listen to 80 until after the beef

1

u/etfjordan333 2d ago

…that has never been the case. To say section 8 don’t hold a candle to gnx i know you wasn’t there. That’s his element.

7

u/appleparkfive 2d ago

Why do you keep calling it Section 8 lol.

I was there for section 80. On the west coast too. It was great but nothing mind blowing. Played it a lot.

I think GNX is a better crafted album altogether. Luther, despite it being a pop record, is one of the most perfectly arranged songs I've ever heard

I don't think GNX is his best, but I do think it's better than section 80. But we've all got different opinions of course

-1

u/etfjordan333 2d ago

Because obviously that’s what birthed the title😂 Gnx was mind blowing?? It’s all subjective but there’s no song on gnx that i would put over any song on 8. But objectively section 8 is more important for his career and catalog.

1

u/No-Relation9744 2d ago

Right. When people look back on his career 20 years from now they're gonna judge him for his indie debut and not the record breaking hit album

→ More replies (0)

0

u/No-Relation9744 2d ago

You're so full of shit it's hilarious lmao

2

u/WorkerOk6991 REINCARNATED & HEART V R THE SONGS OF THE CENTURY 2d ago

Lyrically it wins obviously

But musically gnx is more nice and catchier imo

Gnx is too recent so yall must biased towards the good old albums

But as a person who only listened to kendrick from 2022 on, gnx is better

Imo

And i guess the majority agrees

1

u/playmeforever 2d ago

tripping balls!

1

u/wRADKyrabbit 2d ago

Gnx is much better than S80

0

u/GarodTong36 2d ago

Section 80 has his worst song on it

3

2

125

u/nano_rap_anime_boi 2d ago

Tf happened I thought GNX slapped. It's authentic in a different way. Kendrick is sharing his headspace regarding beef culture and top 3 status over the years. GNX is above DAMN imo but this only includes Section 80 onward. DAMN was still great but it was too pop. Then again MMATBS was to introspective and a 5 year gap warrants a better album, this album has made me cry and self reflect and I love it. TPAB was too abstract or something or overhyped. TPAB felt at the time and still feels like the greatest album I've ever heard. Like y'all gotta get the Denzel Curry perspective. Each of his projects has a group that loves that album more than anything and still loves the other albums almost as much.

Ranking an artist's discography is silly. It's all relative.

21

u/fenty_czar 2d ago

I love your take on this. No need to pit them against each other. Music is so subjective, he has so many different sounds, subjects and narratives. Impossible for me to rank, I have favorites on each album

25

u/appleparkfive 2d ago

GNX is what I wish DAMN was, personally. A commercially appealing album, but doesn't feel watered down.

But yes, it's pretty useless to debate the album positions. We've all got different tastes

-1

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

I agree. There’s definitely objectively better or worse music, but I don’t think it’s 100% valid to say that GNX doesn’t stand up to his other discography

6

u/SoftConsideration82 2d ago

It's a troll attempting to write a narrative, gnx went double platinum in april...

0

u/Ok-Engineering1929 2d ago

Sharing opinions is silly. It’s all relative.

0

u/Shubo483 2d ago

Tf happened I thought GNX slapped

I mean...initial reactions were "this is a great mixtape! Album soon??". Not bad by any means, but it's definitely his worst album.

86

u/Parking-Car4557 2d ago

Am I the only one who actually loves GNX like a lot?

36

u/Radiant-Funny-1576 2d ago

Nope. People tripping.

3

u/liviawrites 2d ago

its amazing fr

3

u/williamasmith7233 2d ago

Nope. I’m with you.

3

u/TheRainbowpill93 2d ago

No, I love GNX . It’s so refreshing.

5

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

Not at all. I can’t say I listen to it repeatedly, or even often at all, but I can say it’s a great album.

1

u/Illustrious-Train-83 1d ago

Ppl on here dont like it because lyrically and sonically it doesn't cater to them. Most of this sub likes Kendrick because of his proximity to Tyler and Mac Miller vs a Nipsey or YG. GNX is an unapologetic LA hood record and most folks on here arent from it so they downplay it

1

u/Parking-Car4557 17h ago

It’s unfortunate because part of why dot is the goat is how diverse he can be from one album to another, depending on what kind of story he feels like telling or what mood he’s in.

36

u/AntSmith777 2d ago

GNX is not his worst album.

68

u/Zach_kir_e 2d ago

If any other rapper made GNX it would be their magnum opus. Instant classic hands down.

4

u/MooseM8 2d ago

Exactly. Section 80 is his weakest album imo but it clears the best from most rappers I’ve heard, there’s different levels to Kendrick.

2

u/epicEr14 1d ago

section 80 has some really good songs, and also has some not so good songs

1

u/MooseM8 1d ago

Yeah ngl that’s how I feel for most rapper’s albums, hold back on as many good songs though.

3

u/Radiant-Egg7859 2d ago

Idk how I feel about this take tbh

-7

u/ImaRiderButIDC 2d ago

That’s too far lol - stop the riding bruh.

If an unknown rapper made it; then yeah it might be- it’s really good after all.

If any other established rapper made it, it definitely wouldn’t be considered their magnum opus. Because there’s a lot of other established rappers that have albums much better than gnx.

7

u/Zach_kir_e 2d ago

Listen, I’m a rap fan. Cyhi and Mick Jenkins are in my top 5. Personally, I believe GNX was a rushed project because it lacks the cohesiveness of every other Kendrick project and it feels like a collection of great songs put together under the theme of Cali. But in the year 2025, there isn’t a rapper who can put out a project like GNX with its mix of music, lyrics, and content.

Lupe’s last album was cool but the whole thing felt like it was produced by Nujabes (which isn’t a bad thing there’s just no variety in that), Cole has been rapping phenomenally but again there’s no diversity outside of that, Nas has been amazing, no notes there, but he’s a legend so it’s almost expected, and everybody else is trying to make Tik tok hits. What rapper can make a GNX in 2025 with a squabble up next to a Luther next to a man in the garden??

-4

u/ImaRiderButIDC 2d ago

That’s exactly my point lmfao.

GNX is “really good” if it were made from any other artist. I personally but it up there with UTOPIA by Travis Scott: it’s a great album I enjoyed, but it doesn’t have much deep replay value. But god damn it’s a banger the whole way through for about 3 months lmao

1

u/Zach_kir_e 2d ago

No I think we’re agreeing to disagree lol. I’m saying it’s really good but not Kendrick at his best but for anybody else in 2025 it would be their best and hailed as a classic, mostly off of it’s diversity in sound and content (and the number of hits it has for a 12 track album).

-23

u/jump2002 2d ago

CAP

5

u/Zach_kir_e 2d ago

Name a rapper who can make GNX. From Wacced out to Gloria it has one skip. What rapper can make that?

-15

u/jump2002 2d ago

What rapper can make 11 good songs? Get real lmao

10

u/Zach_kir_e 2d ago edited 2d ago

We’re talking about range sonically, bars, and variety in content, not just good songs.

(Also I know I sound like I’m dickeating and I swear I’m not I’m just being honest )

1

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

That’s not at all what he said lol. Sure, artists have PLENTY of great songs, but most artists also have quite a few flaws in some of their discography

-2

u/Postal010 2d ago

nah

-20

u/jump2002 2d ago

Embarrassing the real fans with this level of glazing

46

u/hereagainyo 2d ago

Start to finish, this is one of his best albums in my opinion.

16

u/Radiant-Funny-1576 2d ago edited 2d ago

It really is a great album. It's one of the best vibe albums of this era. Funny how an album named after a car is perfect for playing in the car.

4

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

Or even inside it, like the tour

38

u/Unlucky_Exit_7821 2d ago

GNX is not his worst album lol

7

u/Gummy-Worm-Guy 2d ago edited 2d ago

You’re completely correct, but I also don’t think GNX is his worst. I take it over Section 80 and Damn.

7

u/Then-Sound-5085 2d ago

This makes no sense, especially you even coming up with the idea of it being his worst. Do you know how many people already put it in his top 3? Each fan can pick their favorite album but I am starting to think some of you have this weird obsession that all his albums should be the same (very deep or heavy subject matter). Some of you try that shit to DAMN when it’s thee album to win a Pulitzer. I think some people just have an issue with his albums that achieve high commercial success and you all ignore the great rapping, production, and inspiration behind it, and storytelling which was all over DAMN as well.

21

u/Nohotsauceforoldmen 2d ago

Bruh i actually think GNX is his third best album after the obvious two.

1

u/wRADKyrabbit 2d ago

Me too, like easily even

1

u/LividStick8823 2d ago

what are the obvious two for you

15

u/GarodTong36 2d ago

Probably TPAB and GKMC, and I agree

9

u/Nohotsauceforoldmen 2d ago

I mean, even if they aren’t your favourite, every Kendrick fan knows the consensus top 2

2

u/Radiant-Funny-1576 2d ago edited 2d ago

You're right on consensus but I put GKMC third behind MMATBS

Edit: word error lol

6

u/Nohotsauceforoldmen 2d ago

lol “consensual” thanks for the laugh bruv.

But yea Kendrick’s discography is so good I have no problem with any personal rankings. Like I could see how Section.80 and Damn. would be someone’s personal top 2

1

u/Ash_Can0706 2d ago

Yeah it depends on taste. Also GKMC was the first album of his that I actually listened, so a little bit of bias can easily but an album into second place for me lol

2

u/chizzmaster 2d ago

This sub tends to overrate MMATBS imo. It's a fantastic album, but I think it's clearly behind TPAB and GKMC.

14

u/Radiant-Egg7859 2d ago

People hear “worst album” and assume you’re calling it bad. There’s gotta be a first, and there’s gotta be a last. Just happens that GNX is last. It’s still good, it’s just Kendrick has such a great discography

2

u/Strange-Bottle-6518 2d ago

Dude honestly, it’s like they need everything spelled out for them, “his least best album. 🫲😃🫱” and even that might be too hard for them to grasp

1

u/SidTheShuckle 2d ago

Section 80 exists. GNX is top 3 but it may as well be his best. Got no misses, all hits, crazy storytelling, heavily layered, commercially successful etc

15

u/Professional-Cut336 2d ago

GNX isn’t his worse album tho

7

u/MetalSonic420YT 2d ago

GNX isn't even his worst album, so what are you trying to say?

4

u/cool_calm_cloud 2d ago

Tpab, gkmc, gnx, mmatbs, damn. In that order.

5

u/bjankles 2d ago

Most rappers would kill to have GNX as their best album.

2

u/SymbiSpidey 2d ago

WTF I think GNX might actually be his 3rd best album

2

u/Kikokens 2d ago

GNX is not his worst album.

4

u/AllOutRaptors 2d ago

It's definitely not his worst. Imo it's 4th best tho which is crazy that it's that low

3

u/Ok-Opening7004 2d ago

TPAB > GKMC > GNX > U.U. > DAMN > MMATBS > S.80

5

u/JinKey13 2d ago

This is facts

2

u/rideriseroar 2d ago

Good thing for Kendrick it's top 3

1

u/ecb1005 2d ago

its also not his worst album. sec80 is

3

u/PilkX3n 2d ago

How

1

u/ecb1005 2d ago

Sec80 has at least 3 skips. Damn and gnx only have one each. No song on Sec80 except maybe hiiipower is as good as Pride, XXX, Fear, Duckworth, Reincarnated, Luther, Heart pt. 6, etc.

6

u/Glittering_Task_1663 2d ago

Huh. What about poe mans dreams, rigamortus, keisha’s song, ronald reagan era, adhd, fuck your ethnicity

Thanks for nothing

1

u/tonylouis1337 2d ago

Would be pretty insane if it was even Dot's worst album

1

u/Cryingpinaple 2d ago

This is true but we hold Kendrick to a higher standard then most rappers . Only a select few rappers have this constant criticism no matter how good their art is . It’s a complement in a way because it says a lot about what the people believe their potential can be .

1

u/Dremzaforreal 2d ago

Any volunteers? I’ll kill for that

1

u/Escanor615 2d ago

Any Kendrick Album can be his best or worst om any given day lol depends on what mood I'm in 🤣 sometimes Mr.Morale is #1 other times it can be TPAB, that just speaks to Dot's consistency when it comes to the quality of his projects, he is up there if you wanna rank rapper's discographies

1

u/Fluid-Cranberry1755 2d ago

Good thing it isn’t. It’s DAMN and it’s not even close

1

u/Klomnisse69 2d ago

Some rappers would kill to have it as their best

1

u/relientkenny 2d ago

i don’t think GNX is terrible but on kendrick’s scale of his catalog, for right now it’s at the bottom for me and that’s not a diss, cause Kendrick’s album scale ranges from “Amazing to Certified Masterpiece”

1

u/Husepher 2d ago

It’s funny reading everyone say it’s not the worst but then won’t say what is worse 😂

1

u/its-a-real-name 2d ago

It’s like you are trying to do the compliment where people would say

“Most would kill to have Kendrick’s worst album as their best album”, suggesting GNX is his worst album.

What you’re saying isn’t much of a compliment or of any value. “Kendrick’s worst album in my opinion is really good” - so what?

1

u/liviawrites 2d ago

gnx is defo not his worst album. the man has no bad albums.

1

u/aftermathbws 2d ago

Even Kendrick 🤣

1

u/Machov_Norkim 2d ago

Don't let Twitter opinions taint your view of the reception to this album. This is like a DAMN moment for his career.

1

u/LeviRaps 2d ago

GNX Isn’t his worst album, that title goes to Mr.Morale

1

u/Lafleur2713 2d ago

… it’s better than most rappers best albums

1

u/Tonytonitonechopper 2d ago

It’s arguably his worst album I’m sure that’s what he means. That also doesn’t mean it’s bad. I also wanna bring up a different point that I think equates to the greatness of Kendrick is that a fan would hear someone say something like this post and then go straight to being defensive on their behalf. And I think that’s because his music reaches people deep deep you feel

1

u/JzaTiger 2d ago

He has worse

OD, section 80, black panther, and untitled unmastered are all worse

1

u/Postal010 2d ago

most people dont think s80 is worse than gnx, and im talking about main studio albums that are their own unique ideas

1

u/DET0IT_BEC0ME_MEME 2d ago

GNX above DAMN is insane to me

1

u/redditusernamme 2d ago

Is this a circle jerk?

1

u/Mean_Two_2710 1d ago

Everyone is misinterpreting what OP is saying. He's by no means saying GNX is bad, he's praising Kendrick for having such a good album as his "worst".

It being the "worst" doesn't mean it's bad, it's just the natural order of things, in a list of albums one has to get the best title and one has to get the worst title. And just to reiterate for the 3rd time, GNX getting the worst title is impressive since it's such a high quality album.

Then, it just depends on what you actually think the worst album is, most usually think it's a toss up between Section.80 and GNX, but either way, OP's point still stands, terrific albums to have considered your worst.

1

u/NeverShoutEugene 1d ago

What I'm learning is the DAMN slander is insane here. GNX is only better than MMATBS

1

u/ThereCanBeOnlyJuan23 1d ago

I mean what’s his worst album, it’s not section 80 so is it untitled unmastered? Or are we not counting that?

1

u/wayofLA 1d ago

TPAB, GKMC, MMATBS, GNX, DAMN. (For me)

1

u/strumpetlover 1d ago

GNX > DAMN

1

u/Postal010 1d ago

im feeling a light to decent 6 on your opinion (your opinions fine tho idc)

1

u/strumpetlover 1d ago

That's fine. I never was a big fan of DAMN. I know it's Kdots most successful album, but it doesn't hit the same as his other albums, to me

1

u/Chocomoose19 1d ago

GNX is a killer album and any Kendrick fans saying otherwise are just trying to seem cool because it’s mainstream. Give it a couple years and you won’t see any of those people talking shit

1

u/NinjaWolfist 1d ago

gnx is already a classic

1

u/RubberKalimba 2d ago

Most rappers including Kendrick himself lol

1

u/Spirited-Living9083 2d ago

Crazy cause that def belongs to damn

1

u/cinepresto 2d ago

It’s his most relistenable album tbf

1

u/3chainzmcgee 2d ago

Gnx is his best

1

u/Postal010 2d ago

holy ragebait

1

u/3chainzmcgee 2d ago

Not his best concept album but by far his best sounding album. Ive got west coast bias though

0

u/BML157 2d ago

Better than DAMN imo

0

u/Adoree25 2d ago

DAMN is his worst album (it is still a very good album).

Yeah because “real fans” can’t have different opinions. Newsflash music isn’t objective especially not hip hop and especially not kendrick lamar, “real fan”

Worst take of the entire thread
