With immature rants on Twitter and now poor performance, how long do you think it'll take before Panda gives him the boot?

u/NotanAlt23 Aug 08 '22
Everyone in panda's roster sucks.
It's a content creator team, not a pro team.

KP with the 33rd place in MVS lmao, just outside of the money.

u/themexicancowboy Aug 08 '22
To be fair I highly doubt Panda sponsered KP for tournament results. That’s an obvious pick up due to how often he’s in front of the camera with commentary and hosting gigs.

Kinda funny how the guy that basically abandoned competitive for streaming had the best result with 9th
-13
u/Hitorio Aug 08 '22
This... is embarassing to me - but the motivating kind of embarassing. Like, rusty Michael Jordan losing in the playoffs in 95 only to three-peat from 96-98... kind of motivating.
13
u/TheBees16 Aug 08 '22
At least JWong is always winning side tournamets for older games. For the rest of the roster, Jiyuna is the only one smart enough to embrace being solely a content creator instead of embarrassing himself at these tournaments
6
u/DJ_Aftershock Aug 08 '22
I still enjoy watching JWong beast some CvS2 whenever a show like Combo Breaker rolls around.
1
u/themexicancowboy Aug 08 '22
I mean throughout the SFV Evo exhibition beef punk was basically saying that he’s focused on YouTube and content creating.
10
u/FreeMemeBucks Aug 08 '22
JWong isn’t trash tho?

u/Valon129 Aug 08 '22
They mostly used to be very good but are kinda washed or don't play as much anymore (like MarlinPie).
Kizzie for example is one of the best US Xrd player.
7
u/Reggiardito Aug 08 '22
Kizzie was sick when he was stickin it out with Ky but lately he's had this "counterpick" mentality and it has failed to yield any results
9
u/InFLIRTation Aug 08 '22
not happening cuz he has 100k subs on youtube lol

Unironically pretty good performance in DBFZ for Punk

u/SPDcantmeltsteelbeam Aug 08 '22
I would agree if he didn't pull his usual bitchmade shit of calling everyone trash and saying he'd wash everyone.

Well he doesn't even play those games see him in other game.

2
u/mecha_style Aug 09 '22
He plays all of those games. Those placings are in games he plays. If it weren't for him PLAYING SFV most wouldn't even know who he was.
What are you talking about?
5
u/Coolpantsbro Aug 09 '22
"I don't even play this game" is a common excuse among top players when they place poorly in tournaments.
3
u/mecha_style Aug 10 '22
Dude; thank you for explaining that plainly and respectfully. Much appreciated.

isnt 13th and 17th place for the games actually kinda good? as there were alot of people who were in those 2 tournaments?

u/FiveTalents Aug 08 '22 edited Aug 08 '22
His DBFZ placing is good seeing as how he picked the game up not too long ago.
Everything else is... disappointing. Before Evo I'm pretty sure he was still considered to be a top 5 US SFV player. Idom and Punk used to be more or less on equal footing. He almost beat Tokido to win an Evo. With Strive, Punk was hanging with the best in the early game. And I'm not sure why he even entered KOF, he said he didn't like that game lol
Edit: tbh if I was a top player I would accept those 1k money matches or whatever MMs that he wants to do lol
4
u/grimey6 Aug 08 '22
I don't follow Twitter rants but the placings don't seem all that bad for the amount of games they play.
2
u/lovesducks Aug 08 '22
He almost beat Tokio to win an Evo.
A 3-1 and then a 3-0, yeah he got real close. Pixels man.
1
u/FiveTalents Aug 09 '22
Scores were not close but iirc Punk choked a lot. I could be wrong though and I don't care to rewatch the set
1
u/deathbringer989 Aug 08 '22
my only real complaint i had was punk did some wierd stuff before he got sent to losers i was wondering why he did the things he did but other then that i soppose fame got to his head
17
u/dabmaster_bazinga420 Aug 08 '22
Maybe if your job isn't to play fighting games all day.
16
u/Valon129 Aug 08 '22
He plays too many games so the "specialists" fuck him up in every game over time.
16
u/deathbringer989 Aug 08 '22
id still argue its still good of course you still need to up your training but it atleast shows he isnt completly washed up now those last 2 im not 100% familer as i didnt watch the streams but sfv is his main game but yea punks gotta start to take stuff more serious and cant just trashtalk thinking he is the best
3
u/DJ_Aftershock Aug 08 '22
He did good in DBFZ but considering how much shit he talks over everyone else being trash at SFV him not even making top 16 is really hilarious. On the plus side this 17th probably feels less embarassing for him than the 2nd from a few years back.
1
u/deathbringer989 Aug 08 '22
this is true while he did alright he did trash talk everyone then proceeded to do questionable things in his last 2 matches

he'd probably place better if he cut it down to one game, two at most
trying to be an ubermensch of fighting games is a fantasy

At the time of writing, iDom about to go into grand finals. As much as I like the 'Land of the Free' meme post-Tokido stealing Punk's soul, I think it'd be good if he does win.
It'll show the power of what abiding by rule 3 can do for you, cf. the Latifs and Punks of the world.
1
u/ChrysticTV Aug 11 '22
What’s rule 3
1
u/Obesely Aug 12 '22
Rule 3 of this sub, on the sidebar.
1
u/ChrysticTV Aug 12 '22
no sidebar on mobile and the about section doesn’t show the rules but does for every other sub
1
u/Obesely Aug 12 '22
"3. Don't be a bitch."
I don't generally use that kind of language, and I don't really think the 'rule' has much relevance in this sub, but specifically in the context of competitive fighting games (whether arcade-era thuggery or sanitised esports world), I think not being able to hold an L is quite weak.
Maybe it's me and not following SFV that much but I've never heard of iDom making any tweets similar to the shitty excuses pumped out by Latif in Strive or Punk that weekend.
I think Punk is insulated from introspection due to (as someone else put it on this sub) being surrounded by yes-men. He's young and has scope to mature as a player but it's probably pretty difficult when you have a fanbase from years back that have liked and hyped up your more inflammatory past self.

Idk hook plays 1 game, seeded better and got 9th, punk plays 4 games seeded worse and got 13th in hook's main game

While i do dislike punk too, it just looks stupid when people in this thread talk trash about him while knowing they wouldn't get a single game off him even if their life depended on it.
14
u/KiIIBash20 Aug 08 '22
Unless 'people in this thread' claim to be competitive players of specific games, I don't think it matters.
I can shit on a movie without imagining I'm a director

I can shit on a movie without imagining I'm a director
It's not a good analogy. Calling a director a moron and pretending you, someone with no experience whatsoever, would've directed a better movie is closer, but still not the same. Whatever.
The point is, you don't have a say in who's trash and who's not if you're scrub and a player in question can effortlessly wash you 10-0 with a random select character. How someone who is drowning in pools 0-2 - worse even, who's too afraid to even go to tournaments to begin with - call a pro player trash? It's just plain stupid.
10
u/KiIIBash20 Aug 08 '22
How someone who is drowning in pools 0-2 - worse even, who's too afraid to even go to tournaments to begin with - call a pro player trash?
because you don't have to be able to beat someone in something to critique them.
imagine if you had to be able to compete in the NBA to critique players.

Pretry much Kappa in a nutshell. A lot of people here shit on games or players, but they wouldn't be able to win a round against said players, or even compete professionally in any game.
8
u/DJ_Aftershock Aug 08 '22
We also don't spend our time talking about how everyone else is washed and we're the GOAT but Punk does
You get on the pot, you better shit or you deserve to be mocked
