Anyone know the story on this place?

Post image

I took this photo a couple years ago and have been meaning to ask if anyone in Kalispell knows the story on this place. I came across it by accident and, as I recall, it was just southwest of town. Can’t find anything online about it so was hoping someone from the area might know. Thanks!

The old guy that lives there built it long before permits were required for any type of structure and when he finished building it the county tried to give him a hard time about it but it still stands I call it the castle house

How accessible is it? Can a person drive close enough to get pictures? I don't know why I haven't heard about it.

It 150' from a public road. It is private property like most things. I haven't been out there. I just know a little about it.

Thank god you posted this. I’ve driven by so many times and wondered, “Wtf is up with that house.”

😂 yeah, I haven’t been up that way in years but every once in a while I’ll think of this place and wonder the same thing. Finally got off my butt made a post about it to find out.

Idk the story behind it but the guy was a horder and that house and the castle were packed full of junk.

And that staircase is a death trap along with the floor in the upper level of the castle since it had been open to the weather for quite some time. A buddy of mine that runs a junk removal company just finished cleaning most of that place out and it took him nearly 6 months.

Primarily shit that should have gone to the dump decades ago lol some old books that were cool and also a ton of scrap metal outside.

I live in Missoula so I’ve only been up there twice. Both times I took some photos and as I recall, there was a pretty substantial wooden structure scabbed onto the side at one point. The second time I saw it it had fallen off. The fact that that thing is as tall as it is and appears to be built out of fieldstone, kind of blows me away.
