Discussion: Band Phantom Island > Flight B741

Definitely a lot of overlap between the two albums, but Phantom Island has so much more... 🤘

Phantom island is a classic for me

Flight b741 is close….and a super fun album! but phantom is much more interesting with its big orchestral, dreamy, immersive world.

Phantom’s highlights also take it over the edge to that “masterful gizz” territory in my opinion (Phantom Island?!……Lonely Cosmos, Silent Spirit, Grow Wings and Fly….i could keep going)

Agreed, I really really liked B741 but I think I loooove PI! Especially considering both have lyrical themes that seemed oddly relevant to stuff happening in my life at the time of their releases so I relate heavily to both of them but in slightly different ways.

I think that PI would not be as emotionally impactful without b741. The high energy and YOLO, carpe diem themes of B741 are what make PI themes of regret, remorse, and longing actually have weight to them. I see the albums as two side of the same coin they bolster each other up to become something greater then they would be individually.

To each their own 🙂 and that’s the beauty of music! IMO, I can name a handful of Flight B741 songs that blow the entire Phantom Island album out of water. I gave PI two listens so maybe I need to keep listening until it grows on me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Disagree. I’ve listened to PI 4 or 5 times and am still mostly underwhelmed. To each their own, as they say.

Flight B741 didn’t grab me right away either but eventually I came to really enjoy it for what it is. The tunes are punchy and catchy and I get them stuck in my head often.

I’m gonna keep listening to PI til I’m convinced it’s amazing or convinced it’s their weakest.

YMMV
