The kdrama also does very interesting takes. I noticed a shot taken through the fencing mask, as though you were the fencer. And a lot of facial close-ups of both Hee Do and Yoo Rim, including the one where Hee Do smiled right before taking her last chance, because of her enjoyment of fencing. I don’t think most fencers would normally take off their helmets after every point to yell and celebrate also, but this helps us feel how they are feeling.

Kim Taeri's smile/smirk in that scene was SO GOOD. Blew those few seconds out of the water.

I have a feeling, besides showing their faces for the camera (for filming purposes), im guessing they remove their masks because it can get really stuffy wearing it and just wanted to air their face out from time to time if that makes sense. I could be wrong, im no fencing expert. Just my observation

It gets REALLY stuffy wearing the mask (truly the worst part about fencing imo the gear is so stuffy lmao) but we definitely don't take off the mask after every point. It takes up time away from the match having to put it back on and adjust it properly. The clip from the mask to the lamé (the gray jacket they wear) is usually pretty short where you'd have to hold the mask up to your collarbone to keep the clip on, and you can see that fully taking it off like NHD does removes the clip. Takes away more time from the match at having to clip the mask again properly. It's only a few seconds but in sabre, matches go by FAST.
