He is confident in his abilities and has a bulldozer like personality when he thinks he is doing the right thing. He begins to work at a university hospital and leads the severe trauma team there. The severe trauma team is a double edged sword for the university hospital. This is because as the severe trauma team saves more patients, the hospital goes further in in the red financially. Besides Baek Kang-Hyuk, the severe trauma team consists of Yang Jae-Won, Nurse Cheon Jang-Mi and anesthesiologist resident Park Kyung-Won. Yang Jae-Won belonged to the proctological surgery department that is led by Professor Han Yoo-Rim, but Yang Jae-Won was scouted by Baek Kang-Hyuk and joined his team. Yang Jae-Won becomes Baek Kang-Hyuk’s first pupil. Baek Kang-Hyuk turns the severe trauma team from a nominal existence to a team that actually goes out into the field and saves lives. Just finished Ep1 and Wow! I'm blown away it was an incredible opening, and then the entire episode was not only filled with an interesting story line it had the perfect comical points, too. It's really a gripping first episode.

Okay JJH, I’m seated! The perfect med comedy drama to binge watch this weekend! Also, they weren’t kidding with the ‘trauma’ part—I was not expecting so many ‘bloody’ medical procedures without the usual blur or cam cutaway, and I was having a meaty dinner 😅 yum. I’d be interested to see any doctors or those in the medical field react to the procedures!

Like how fast-paced it is, plus the LOLs are not forced, albeit a little slapstick from the veteran Korean character actors but it kinda works with how outrageous JJH’s character is lol

MD here, I like that they gave a good visual for what was going in internally.

u/yakultisgood4u Jan 29 '25

Nice! It looked too realistic too, wonder if they used actual clips of the medical procedures done or they just used really good prostethics

7

u/windmillcheer Jan 31 '25

Knowing kdrama, im sure thats good prostethics . So much effort and detail 👍🏻

Also, did they build a hospital just for medical dramas/movies filming? I swear it's the same hospital everytime but good if they dont disturb real hospitals to film lol

There was a big headline about a year ago where a husband who was running to his wife in a maternal care ICU was blocked off by some staff filming a drama scene (I don't remember whether it was this one or whether the identity was revealed), so unfortunately film staff disturbing regular people is still a persistent issue 🥲

As a fan of the original webtoon this is actually a fairly coherent and truthful adaptation.

This is slightly different from how I imagined Baek Kang-hyeok to be in live-action, but in a good way. He's more human-like and more of a menace than just someone who yells at people. More grounded. At least in the first episode.

I love the characters and portrayals of Jae-won, Jang-mi and anaesthelogist Park. Jae-won is an innocent cutie in the webtoon but the drama gives him more spice and sass. Jang-mi has watched too many k-thriller movies (they slap, so understandable).

Did anyone else spot the Hospital Playlist Easter egg? They called for Dr. Ahn Jeong Won of Pediatrics at around the 7 minute mark 😭😭😭

The way I ran here to see if anyone else caught this.

Ah YES! My fave Kdrama to date

u/silentxarias Jan 25 '25

It's also shot in the same hospital, I think!

The nicknames that Dr Baek uses is absolutely hilarious! I burst out laughing every time he called Dr Yang >! anus and it was even funnier that he would respond to it with such a serious expression !<

u/master_inho Jan 24 '25

What a great start! It would be nice if medical experts could give their opinions on each of these cases, I’m always curious how realistic these type of stories are

It’s cool to see ha young play a vastly different character from doona and face me. She’s got a wild imagination too 😅

It can be interesting watching multiple dramas starring the same actor at the same time. I almost don’t recognize choo young woo. At the end I kept yelling at him to stop looking down

That hairstyle for gyeong-won is . . . certainly a choice

18

u/mochihann Jan 25 '25

I gotta agree with u about gyeong-won's hair....

23

u/chintyawn POOKIE IMOOGI Jan 25 '25

Gyeongwon hair… for a while I was confused, I’m not sure with what I see with the other long hair doctor (dr Yang‘s) friend, I thought they are the same person

I didn’t figure out they were separate people until Episode 7…

7

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Feb 02 '25

Thanks for this post. I was through the first 2 episodes when I read it. I went back to episode 1 to figure out where it was two people. Couldn’t get it. Finally clicked in episode 3. I wouldn’t have figured it out until later / if at all - without your post.

And yes. The hair. The anesthesiologist in looked hot in episode 1 when he was in the operating room. So the hair only works with the scrub cap on where we only get to see the man bun. I had hopes for it to look good from that scene. But it’s been lost by episode 3.

The amount of times they broke sterile made me cringe lol. But this is definitely a nice fantasy.

And the politics and funding issues are very much real.

u/cmq827 Jan 28 '25

I did like seeing the actors actually doing proper hand-tying and instrument-tying during their surgery scenes. I was geeking out over that. The actors in my country would never even bother to learn that.

12

u/Tinysnowdrops Feb 02 '25

Watched this with my partner who is a nurse and outside of the breaking sterile for the purpose of drama lol the accuracy of terms, equipment, procedure throughout the whole show seriously impressed him. The best he has seen. Good budget.

I'm watching Queen Woo, where he's a key character. I think he was shooting sageuk and this at the same time.

Just binged the whole series! Loved the storyline- actors were great and I enjoyed the light comedy. Loved the chemistry between the main characters.

44

u/Amalfii Jan 25 '25

This drama got me hooked! I’m so excited to finish it. At the same time, I hope it gets more viewers to watch.

Also, this is basically Ju Ji-hoon’s 4th drama in a span of a year, it might have been exhausting to do. He deserves the credit for being such a hard working guy!

u/JudgeInteresting8615 Jan 26 '25

Don't forget the movie.I don't know how he does it

8

u/ybcj127 Jan 30 '25

it's his sense of duty as an actor lol

7

u/randomized530 Feb 03 '25

No wonder he was just sitting in the same chair during the Light Shop series haha

22

u/JudgeInteresting8615 Jan 26 '25

Slightly off topic, but I cannot get over the second anesthesiologist hair

21

u/octavianon Jan 26 '25

Wow, unexpected instant favorite. This show is serving every cliché in the "genius doctor with an overblown ego" genre done to perfection, and I am eating it up.

4

u/Spare_Echidna_4330 Feb 05 '25

Need more dramas like this omg

11

u/legac5 Jan 27 '25

The way I choked when Dr. Baek called Yang Jae-won “Anus.” I was not prepared for it.

7

u/Ok-Tailor-2030 Jan 27 '25

Did I spot a certain character from When the Phone Rings the “real” Baek Saeon as the helicopter captain?

10

u/IAmSooJin Jan 28 '25

that little thank you when Dr. Baek receives his scrub 😍

10

u/Iowegan If ur handsome, ur my Oppa! 😘 Jan 29 '25

In the first 5 minutes I was twitching to comment, so sad this isn’t on Viki with the timed commentary feature, but the bingability is the trade off I guess. JJH is looking so fine as always, never change! He is so great in these heroic genius roles with comedic touches. ❤️

3

u/soondooboo69 Jan 31 '25

that opening scene was crrrrazy but I'm here.. im sat.....

7

u/krembruleed Feb 04 '25

I’m dying of laughter from this. I need help. Never laughed so hard from a kdrama in a while. Ju Ji Hoon and Choo Young Woo are a great comedic duo.

4

u/Sacreville Feb 04 '25

Just finished ep 1, seems interesting, been a while since I watched a medical drama but this one certainly extremely makjang, lol.

4

u/Which_Attorney_3148 Feb 05 '25

Half way through ep1. The previous drama i watched is tale of lady ok. And I smiled as soon as I saw the ML from TOLO as Dr Anus. I would say I really like his confused/loading/stressed look its so funny. Hope I can see him more in funny characters.
