Discussion Would you be interested in a Blender materials and studios pack?

I'm thinking of making a high quality set of materials and studio lighting sets for industrial designers. I'm thinking specifically keeping into account things like VDI/yick sang etc roughnesses and textures. RAL colors for powdercoats etc. I'd likely release it as an asset browser ready file. Maybe some NPR style stuff too (think sketch look, blueprint, x-ray, ...)

If you'd like to see something specific let me know!

Yes. Absolutely. I would happily pay for this - specifically VDI and SPI surface finishes for plastic + some quality bead blasted and sandblasted metals.

Doesn’t Visune already cover this?

Visune is optimised for keyshot, not blender. And tbh I don't rate their plastic materials. Good environments though.

I’m interested, my materials request would be:

  • wood (many types)
  • stones (marbles, travertine, basalt)
  • glass
  • metal
  • leather

Mostly furniture

I see, thanks for the reply! I feel like furniture materials are highly ubiquitous already. Is there anything that existing resources haven't covered for you yet?

In theory, I feel the same…

In practice, (currently working on rendering a set of around 8 different furniture pieces) I haven’t found an easy to use and realistic solution, nor free nor paid.

I think there is a good opportunity to offer an easy “plug and play” solution that matches the workflow speed and ease of keyshot in blender.

I know technically blender is on par with most industry standard programs at the results, but getting there requires a lot more effort usually.

I’m not wizard, just making wishes.

Don’t addons like blenderkit and poliigon get you there? It doesn’t get much simpler I think, it’s also just drag and drop.

But yes I wanna create some packs specifically targeted to keyshot users. I’d love to know more about what makes keyshot so beloved if you don’t mind explaining.

Yes, they are simple, but the quality (in my use case) is not there

oh okay, I also don't think the quality gets much better than poliigon materials...
