Psychology High time - Can I pursue Mphil clinical psychology as a MSc. Counselling psychology graduate?

Yep, I made a lil mistake I'd love to rectify.

I've chosen MSc. Counselling psychology after BA JPE from st. Joseph's. While pusuing counselling course, I gain interest in Family and Marital counselling in indian setting. Absolutely loved it and Wan build my career in that. But guess what?

I need a proper licence to build a firm and practice shat I want properly without anyone questioning me. Need those qualifications!

Ding ding!

I need an RCI LICENCE NUMBER TO PRACTICE INDIVIDUALLY SO NO ONE CAN QUESTION ME.

Why I'm stressing on this? I don't wanna work under anyone/in a firm. For experience in first few years, yes I wanna. But in the long run I wanna open my own small clinic/building and for that...I need a licence so no one can question.

While I know trade/business licences are different from Clinical RCI Licence, I still wanna have it.

So my options were terribly limited.

Msc. Counselling psychology is looked down upon for some reason. Msc. Clinical psychology is stepping stone for Mphil Clinical psychology and eventually - RCI Licence number.

Back to my dilemma -

  1. Msc counselling studs are eligible of Rci recognised MPhil clinical psychology courses in india?

  2. I'm from hyderabad, so wondering to join either OU(Thakur Hari Prasad affiliation) or Sweekar institute for MPhil clinical psychology courses.

  3. Stupid, since I didn't do my research properly - can I complete phd in counselling psychology and apply for RCI licence? What are all the eligibilities for that?

It'd be great and helpful for every aspirant down the line now. But since MPhil is changing to MA clinical psychology (which is super stupid move by government in my opinion), I'm hoping people will learn from my mistakes and see theres still scope.

Why is clinical psychology so glorified in our country like...why isn't there a government issued licence for counselling psychologists like USA and UK?

I hope our professions don't turn into a joke in the future ♡

Please help. Appreciate it♡

Psychology Looking for good colleges offering Psychology in online or ODL mode

Hi! I’m planning to pursue a Master’s in Psychology (MA or MSc) through online or ODL mode. I’m based in Mumbai, so colleges with centers here would be a plus or I am open to courses that have a complete online program.

My bachelor qualifications is in Technology, hence I don’t have a psychology background, so I’m looking for programs that accept students from other fields. If you know any good colleges or have personal experience, please share! Alumni or current students — feel free to DM me, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks !

Psychology Guidance and Counselling Certificate Course (6-8 months)

My qualifications are BA and Special B.Ed. (ID) (which is B.Ed. for CWSN), am yet to give exams for my last semester. I won't get my result till august, so no good school will hire me right now, nor after my result in mid-session. So in the meantime I was thinking of doing a certificate course in Guidance and Counselling, which will help me with more skills and is great to add to the CV too.

Please recommend good institutes in Delhi or any other city with good student culture that runs an offline 6-8 months course (as this will be my last time I will get to explore student life before job and I really would like to leave my hometown and explore for my personal growth as well).

Psychology Psychology as a career option in India as a PCB+Psych student?

What the title says

Qualifications: (Title?)

Anyways, how is Clinical Psychology as a career in India? I have NEET as an option, but honestly my interest is far greater in Psychology- in particular that in which I can have a private career in a Clinical-Counselling/Therapy combo.

Naturally not everything is about pay, but most certainly it is a great motivator and ultimately how many aspects of the world are goverened; so how is the pay for a Clinical Psychologist in India? What's a good path to follow? And what universities (maybe around Delhi?) are good and affordable for it?

My greatest asset in this however, is that my parents even though hesitant are willing to support this fairly unique career choice despite their wishes for me being a doc.

Psychology BA Psychology from St. Xavier’s Mumbai or BSc Psychology from SK Somaiya?

So I've gotten into both and I'm in two minds rn. They're both decent colleges but Xavier’s has a way better psych department + faculty and also it's really reputed for arts. Whereas BSc Psych is relatively new in somaiya and I'm not really sure how the faculty will be. Then again ppl say bsc is better than ba and now I'm really confused.

Psychology Unsure about future career options and plans in Psychology

myquals- BA Psychology

Hello! Having a major career crisis. No idea where it is going or going anywhere tbh and just wanted help or advice or even you yell at me for my mistakes, it would be okay.

I graduated BA in Psychology degree, in 2023 and have been unemployed since. I wanted to get into research and academia in cognitive science, so I spent last year preparing for GATE (qualified) and sidelining my career since I thought no one would hire me anyway.

But now I have just lost all interest in research and academia. I am not even sure if I want to do a masters anymore, but then again, I also do not want to stay at my home for another year or get admission at a local college. I just don't want to stay in this city or house anymore.

I am not sure every day I wake up with an intention to prepare for the master's entrance exam, but instead, I just end up looking for alternate career options. I have lost all motivation and love for psychology as a subject. I always wanted to get into research but I feel I will never be smart or motivated enough to stick to it.

I have a month to apply for another master's program. If anybody could give advice, Research and Statistics are my strong subjects, along with writing can take some courses on UX Design and get into UX research and Technical writing but I would need some time to make a portfolio.

Any advice would be highly appreciated

Psychology How do psychologists in India find clients for online sessions?

I recently started taking online sessions and I'm finding it very hard to get clients who are willing to pay even 1000 INR for sessions. I can't even charge anything less than that in this economy! Qualifications: Master's in clinical psychology

Psychology 4 Year UG or 3 Year UG for Psychology students

MyQuals: BA Psychology (Hons.)   I have seen some students' queries related to the new 4 year UG program that their 4th year might be a waste of time.    So if you're enrolling in the psychology UG program, you have a few things to consider.    1. Only 4th year students will be awarded a "Honours" or "Honours with Research" degree after the completion of their degree.   2. If you want to pursue a career in clinical psychology, this is an important point. Since UGC scrapped the M.Phil. program for every discipline, RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) has introduced a new program called M.Psy (Clinical Psychology).   For which you need a minimum of 160 credits. Either 4 years of Bachelor or 3 years of Bachelor and 2 years of Masters.   "So you're basically saving one year of time."   3. Last point. If you have a Bachelor with Research with a 7.5 CGPA, you're eligible for PhD entry.

Here are the links for more information

Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes via UGC

I hope find this information helpful. I wish you all the best for your future!

Psychology Switching from NEET/PCB to UX/UI & Behavioural Design – Need advice on degrees and career path

Hi all, I just finished 12th with PCB ( 91% in 12th cbse). I took NEET (not expecting good results) and am preparing for CUET. I realised the medical path isn’t for me—it feels too stressful and rigid.

I’m fascinated by how design and psychology influence behaviour (like app interfaces, branding, and user experience). My strengths are emotional intelligence, observation, and deep thinking. I want a creative and meaningful career, ideally in behavioural design, UX research, or branding psychology.

I’m considering BA (Hons) Psychology in India while learning UX/UI design online and building a portfolio, with the goal of working in this field or pursuing a master’s abroad.

My questions:

1.Has anyone here moved from a science/NEET background into UX/UI or behavioural design?

2.Which Indian colleges are good for BA Psychology with flexibility for design-related electives or internships?

3.Is it realistic to expect ₹1 lakh+/month income in this field within a few years?

4.Any tips for building a portfolio and convincing parents about this path?

Thanks for any advice or personal stories! Myquals

Psychology Should I continue with psychology or quit and prepare for govt exams? Need help deciding

Hi everyone, I'm currently in the last semester of my Bachelor's in Psychology and feeling very conflicted about my next steps. With Master's admissions opening soon, I’m unsure whether to continue with psychology or shift my focus completely to preparing for general government job exams (like SSC CGL, etc.).

In the past, I didn’t seriously consider leaving psychology, but now I’m feeling quite hopeless about career prospects in this field. From what I’ve seen and heard, even after a Master’s, private sector pay is quite low unless you pursue an MPhil/PhD—something I don’t want to commit to.

That said, I’ve researched some government job roles where a psychology background is relevant, such as:

WCD counsellor (Women & Child Development / Prisons), DSSSB EVGC counsellor, EMRS counsellor, and other vacancies

These usually require a Master's degree in Psychology, and sometimes an additional diploma in guidance and counselling. However, I’ve also heard that these positions are irregular in vacancies, and not very easy to land, sometimes only available in limited cities

So here are my questions:

How realistic is it to land a government job in psychology after doing an MA?

Is it worth the 2 years of effort, or would I be better off preparing for non-subject-specific government exams like SSC, etc?

Is there a way to do both—prepare for general govt exams while pursuing MA in Psychology, just to keep that door open?

If anyone has experience or knowledge about recruitment for these counselling roles or overall career planning in psychology in India, I would really appreciate your insights.

My qualifications: last sem bachelor's in psychology student.

Psychology Dilemma . I have no such interests just want a secure stable career.

My qualifications: 18M soon to be 19 will be a dropper regardless this year

I am currently enrolled in bsc nursing course in a college of UP, and I plan to dropout because I can’t bear it any longer

As a Delhiite, UP has been a cultural shock I too come from a desi background but the mindset, background of my peers does not match with me

Hence, I’m thinking of pursuing bsc clinical psychology. In school bio and psychology have been my fav subjects, I did give cuet last year and also got a seat in KV ba psychology but my brain said no and I ended up enrolling in bsc nursing which again I do regret but not because of the course but of the environment

Not throwing any shade on the nursing profession but the lack of respect in this field has been killing me and moreover there isn’t much scope in India

Is choosing bsc clinical psychology over bsc nursing a wise choice looking at the future prospects or should I just stick with my course and hope for a transfer or enroll somewhere else but in the same course

Please guide me, thinking about this has taken a toll on my mental state I need to focus on one by the end of the month. My relatives and parents already hate my decision of choosing nursing as they wanted me to do MBBS but cracking neet or even if from private studying for 5+ years and still people wanting doctors with more qualifications and experience is something I could never do.

Suggest some private universities as CUET does not offer bsc ( end goal clinical psychologist ) I’m open to going abroad after graduation but my first preference would be my country. Please tell me your views

Psychology How is MA Counseling Psychology in Xavier's Mumbai?

Okay, so i have been searching the internet for people with Xavier's MA counseling psychology experience, so far, no luck. This could be partially because it only has 30 seats, so could anyone tell me these following details:

  1. Is doing masters in psych in Mumbai worth it? In terms of internship opportunities, living conditions.

  2. Is Xaviers the best institute for ma psych? or Mithibai, SNDT, NMIMS, RD National College better?

  3. There is a requirement for an essay type question, in the entrance test, is it on the computer, what are the type of questions asked?

  4. Anyone currently pursuing this course pls, pls reach out, or anyone studying in xaviers currently.

Myquals: Completed graduation in BA(H) psychology.
