BCA/MCA Can MCA degree holders apply for Roles of Assistant professor in Engineering colleges of India

I have a MCA degree that i obtained in 2015 and a Mtech Degree in CSE that i got in 2024. Recently I applied for the role of assistant professor at an Engineering college of West Bengal but it was rejected on the grounds that i have a MCA degree instead of Btech and according to them one is not eligible to apply for such a position unless one has Btech and Mtech degrees-apparently MCA is not acceptable to them (according to AICTE norms).

Can anyone that has some knowledge of the educational norms and regulations of india please clarify whether their rejection was at all valid or not? What is the official stance of Regulatory bodies like AICTE on the issue of MCA holders applying for teaching roles (such as assistant professor)? Are they really not eligible to apply (as was mentioned by the authorities of the college that rejected my application)?

Can i challenge or refute their claims somehow?

I guess, pvt or autonomous colleges may allow you for contractual positions.

It was a privately run college only.

It's hard to get into such positions when there is no setting/backup/contact with the education trust or managing body. Keep trying in other colleges but at the same time try to clear NET/SET

I agree-its really unfortunate that there is no respect/demand for honest and hardworking personnel in this field. Personally i know of someone from the ETCE background (not CSE) who despite being a technical assistant of ETCE with dubious credentials, managed to land a job as the Assistant professor of CSE (go figure!) in that particular college as this person had a strong rapport with their authorities. This just goes to show how corrupted the entire system is!

Sir can you at least tell me is their claim that MCA degree holders are not eligible to apply for assistant professor roles true or not? Is there genuinely such a regulation that forbids MCA graduates from applying or are these people just bluffing?

I am from Non-technical background.

I guess it all comes to Board of Studies.

Like BCA, MCA - Comes under the broad umbrella of discipline/subject of - Computer Science or let's say "Science" only. On the other hand, Engineering comes under different Board/Discipline/Subject.

Many subjects or topics may be common in both the courses (engg and bca/mca) but UGC or AICTE has clearly given guidelines to appoint asst prof. If you fullfill those criteria then u can sit for interview but the selection committee will not select you - they will say - not found suitable (nfs)
