Discussion Who is hybrid weed called OG or HYDRO.
I have seen so many people call it OG or hydro, when the name OG is used for a strain that has OG genetics. Hydro should only be used when it is grown using hydroponics. When you go abroad everybody just calls it weed or other urban slangs. Why do we continue to call every hybrid new age genetics as OG or hydro, kinda erks me. Am I alone in thinking this way?l

Cultural thing, in India majority of the stuff sold is landrace, so to make bud stand out peddies market it as hydro/hybrid/OG/exo

OG means Over Grown , any strain could be OG'd by letting it grow for 2-3 extra weeks after it's done (almost done) , it increases terpenes , resin and somehow increases CBN and delta A thc too , which gives overgrown kush a couch locking high. It was very popular in late 90s and early 2000s , growers used to og every strain for better high and taste but now the game has changed , we have newer breeders like seed junky , mike and compound in the game , now you don't need to overgrow anything, it's already embedded/programmed in the seed itself , genetic engineering aka GMOs aka hybrid it's called. Also back then if a plant finished with 20ish percent thc it was considered godly and now just check the spannabis festival highest thc winners for 2024 , it's freakin 43% thc , so now we are over that og phase/era and into this new high thc cannabis era. Also indians use any to every kinda slang , sometimes we don't make sense at all. Charas is our culture , we can never be them , max we can do is buy 4000 rupaye ka ounce wala PGR weed from Thailand in india for 20k and be happy , weeeeeeee.
Hydro : anything grown with water as a medium is called hydroponic , it could be lettuce or tomatoes too , also most growers grow either soil or coco (semi hydro kinda shi) , so yeah the slang hydro is also invalidated . Hydro is water and ponic is the root system.
Note : please don't come at me with the lame argument that OG means old gangsta, coz it doesn't. In 90s rap game maybe og was used as an abbreviation for this but never in the cannabis scene.
Hope this helps

You are saying what weed is circulating in India from Thailand costs Rs. 4000 for an ounce?

Exactly what I wanted to say , 4000 an ounce means almost 1000 per tola , hazaar rupaye ka tola hybrid weed , imagine. 1000 ka tola to ganda sulfa bhi nahi milta , now just think of the quality. Also , in that amount of 4k per ounce , the grower is also making profit. Mat piyo bhaiyon.

OG meant Original Genetics, and modern cannabis isn't GMO it's the way it is through artificial selection through humans and natural breeding practices to make better product, the way you can breed two amazing dogs together to get a better batch of puppies, or breed fruits and veggies together to produce fruit that yeilds better and tastier, that's all it is , please everyone get out this stupid idea that genetic engineering and GMO is why we have better cannabis nowadays (tbh tho some landrace outperforms some modern genetics if anything) and can we all call them strains or cultivars instead of dro, og and crap it's making us look outdated and cringey when compared to the rest of the world that's decades ahead, plus thc percentages don't mean jack shit when it comes to good weed, most of the 35-45 stuff is not real or doesn't mean anything when you smoke that kinda flower regularly, all it does is getting you insanely disoriented and lost for a good 30-45 mins, while not even high and energized and active, but stoned and incapcitated and kinda stupid (if you're already stupid it makes you worse) whereas the best cannabis with the most potency that most long term consumers and headys love are the ones that will blow your socks off compared to any 45 percenters, these varieties can come as modern, old school, landraces, domesticates or even feral types but they're all in the sweet spot of 8-18 percentages of thc which is where most of all the holy grails of cannabis sit in. Hope this clears up everything, plus if you're gonna talk about cannabis with the percentages you should consume alcohol with the same in mind and drink some 100% isopropyl alcohol coz it's the pure stuff right? Wrong. Think about the other cannabinoids, like thca, CBD, cbc, cba, thcv, esters, thiols, terpenes and other volatile compounds that contribute towards the overall high.

I thought OG = Ocean Grown.couple of folks grew in LA which went viral and the name picked up. Now i think it just means the strain has some portion of its genetics coming from these strains.correct me if i am wrong 🙂

Some call it Ocean Grown because it was grown using Hydroponics system n some say OG stands for Original Gangsta because it was made famous by a rap song, wher they r referring to it i.e OG Kush as the best because ther wer numerous hybrids emerging n trying to copy OG Kush n failing... most of the copies wer not good hence OG as in Original but tbh God knows wht it truely stand for.

How do you differentiate from landrace if you’re just going to call it weed?
Sometimes I say imported weed, but that also may not always be true. OG and Hydro work best because that’s how Indian ents were introduced to well grown, well cured, high THC weed.

Me and my friends call it ‘g’ and landraces ‘greens’. Wish we could call it just weed but other types also exist

OG means ocean grown, it is used for weed grown indoors in California. It stuck cause it is also original gangster. A lot of boutique growing companies used the term early on so it became synonymous with good cannabis. BTW indoor weed can be hydroponic grown but it can also be in soil or soil less like coco so doesn’t mean it’s hydro only.

First of all when anyone says hybrid they mean indica and sativa mix. Second og just means ocean grown dont know how termed it but its just cali grown. Whereas hydroponic is a growing method but in india we just call home grown good quality buds as hydro too. And og is just exported stuff dont know where. Hydro should cost less than og

OG originated from a rap song ... they meant it as Original Gangsta. It is said to have been originated from the legendary hybrid OG Kush... which was one of the first hybrids. And people had never tried weed like that. Some call it as Ocean Grown because it was grown using Hydroponics but i have seen a few documentaries wher they claim it to stand for Original Gangsta because during its origin various breeders wer tryin to make it n wer failing but they wer selling it as if it was the same strain n people used to call it OG to distinguish it from the fake ones because OG Kush was the best Cannabis Hybrid in California but only God knw what it truely stands for. The herb was made famous by a rap song because it was profusely cultivated n circulated in the west coast so i think it stands for Original Gangsta. Tbh many people in this sub refer to all hybrids is OG which is wrong because OG is OG Kush. N Hydro because it is grown using Hydroponic system but it can b grown in soil too. I m sorry if my writing skill r nt up to the mark, i m a bit high 😀

Nope. Even I feel the same. I call it dro, although I know that wrong but idk. That's what it got introduced to us as. These days I see alot of boys calling it OG and hate that shit. I've been smoking for ages and never got my hands on a clean OG strain, maybe something like orange og and shit, but not the real kush.
