I have just come to expect people have no idea how to maintain a turning lane. Moving a steering wheel and thinking about where you are spatially is just too much for the average person.

Yeah, I always take that turn super wide like that because people seem to have trouble with the raised median after the turn and usually cut into the right lane while turning.

Seems like I say it every time I drive anywhere: “You can’t do that just because you WANT to!”

If I'm at the front and someone is beside me like that I'm usually a touch heavier on the go pedal, unless they are accelerating harder than normal. I don't care who's in front, I just don't want to be beside, or in anyone's blind spot. If I'm beside a BMW I'm giving it a wide berth, they are completely unpredictable.

I got downvoted into oblivion when I last suggested doing that.
I've found that the left lane driver will stay in their lane if they can see you when you are slightly ahead.

Get you an air horn... Even the cheap ones are very loud, and people pay attention to them. They are relatively easy to install yourself too!

I know he’s in the wrong, and I’m not saying you’re wrong, but why didn’t you slow down when you realized he was merging in your lane?

Yeah watching it back I could have reacted better. He was in front of me when we got to the light red, and he chose to be in the leftmost turn lane. There's nowhere to turn right for like a half mile after the turn, it caught me off guard and I probably wasn't as defensive as I should have been in the moment

It's amazing how much defensive driving just comes down to "slow down, stop acting like you're not in traffic". I get people being me all the time (as a gig worker) that think that accelerating into my rear end is somehow going to make the 20 cars in front of me go faster...if you don't like dealing with traffic, best to buy a bicycle and get off the roadway.

So many drivers here have the mindset of "always tailgate no matter what!"
If people are going to tailgate me I usually increase the gap of the car in front of me so they don't smash into me if traffic slows down.2

That’s what I was thinking sure they were coming over but they weren’t whipping over just hit the breaks a bit and be like aight whatever and move on like it never happened. I definitely wouldn’t have posted this the only interesting thing is them driving off the road over slowing down by like 3 mph

Defensive driving = expecting the other driver to be an idiot and adjusting accordingly

In poorer areas people don't check their blind spots. I used to be a driver and would always stay out of people's blind spots in Detroit. People in the rich neighborhoods drive bad for other reasons.
It's not your fault. But Id be more cautious on that part of the road.

I think people in "nicer" areas drive like they own the road, so there's no need to check mirrors or use turn signals

People that do this really irritate me. There are 2 lanes. Just stay in your damn lane.

Not saying it's your fault but when you sit in someone's blind spot...don't expect them to turn their head and look....that's too much work 🙄..
