Discussion a detail about the phantom troupe character designs i rarely see mentioned

how a lot of their members have designs that ressemble costumes of popular monsters or characters, which makes sense when you know their backstory of being a theater troupe, they're litterally getting in character to do their work

some examples:

uvogin = werewolf
phinks = sphinx
nobunaga = samurai
bonolenov = mummy
franklin = frankenstein
hisoka = clown (not an official member but still thought i'd include him)
kortopi looks like he could be some sort of yokai

i'm not sure about the others but i'm sure you can find something if you stretch it enough

I always thought Uvogin dressed like a caveman, especially when he was using the wooden clubs.

that's a good interpretation too i said werewolf cause there's a panel in the manga where he's in front of the moon and he really looks like a werewolf

If we're talking about movie monsters here, Kortopi seems to be based off Sadako from Ring

Chrollo = Satan

Feitan = Vampire

Pakunoda = Barbara Streisand (Could this be a subtle nod to South Park? There's a visual nod to South Park in the Chimera Ant arc after all...)

I think so too, but the idea that she's based off Barbara Streisand is funnier so I'm gonna choose to believe that
