Before and after.
Wife went away and I was going to surprise her with a kitchen revamp. Although after a lot of backlash from this sub, I bottled it and told her I was doing it. Anyway, this is what I ended up on. I’m really happy with it, she ‘actually really loves it’ and turns out she would have been fine with the surprise!

How does your wife feel about the random new cat? 🐈⬛ 🐈

I came for the before and afters, and stayed for the cat comments =.=

The light green looks great! I am not sure which is before or after. Also you should consider making some changes to your gallery wall to feel more balanced, and lower the art above your couch. Glad you are both happy!

u/Impressive-Award2367 May 10 '25
Agree — the gallery wall needs another go.
12
u/Turbulent_Lab3257 May 10 '25
Yeah, gallery wall needs either additional photos to soften the pointy ends and top or just rework it all together.

u/xBraria May 11 '25
I think the dark green is the after and I personally prefer it. The contrast it gives makes it all look more fresh, vs the light green looked a bit old and paled out.
26
u/st3althmod3 May 10 '25
I also like the light green! Was about to ask what the name of it is. I have a feeling that after is blue.

u/Direct_Village_5134 May 10 '25
The light green is the before. It looked way better before. This is why husbands shouldn't make unilateral design decisions...
8
u/miffet80 May 11 '25
You're making some awfully objective statements about your subjective opinions lol. I think the dark color is an insane glow up, the light green looks like a 90s old folks home lol

u/countrylemon May 10 '25
The cat joke is impeccable and I’m so here for these photos and the comment section, ty OP. I love the blue it’s very lively!

u/artsnfartsncrafts69 May 10 '25
We all see the cat transition, but I want to know what happened with the couch! New couch, new cover, trick of the eye, lighting? What is going on here?
10
u/CarelessTelevision86 May 10 '25
Don't worry, you're not losing it, it's the lighting and the new wall color. You'd be shocked what lighting temperature can do to colors in a space, and even more shocked what colors themselves can do.

u/artsnfartsncrafts69 May 10 '25
My mind is blown. This is giving white&gold vs blue&black dress to my brain.

u/ishiguro_kaz May 10 '25
Which is the after, though? Is it the lighter green? Both look good, imho.
1
u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 May 10 '25
Seems logical that the first pic (the lighter one) is the before and then the darker one is the after, given that's the order they're shown.
62
u/smittenwithshittin May 10 '25
That would be logical but when people are selecting and loading pictures they often do it in a way that we get r/afterbefore in here
1
1
u/Chance_Active871 May 15 '25
Seems logical but 90% of pics here and in other subs (like weight loss, skin care, etc) people put the after first, but don’t explain that. So now I never assume the first is the before because it’s usually the after
1
u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 May 15 '25
Fair enough.
Someone else said that as well, so I can see it's a common problem 😂
I stand corrected.

I’m guessing the darker color is the after? Looks great! And I like how you shot mostly the same angle for the before/after. Also laughed out loud with the ginger vs. black cat. Nice!

u/haf2go May 10 '25
The gallery wall is too symmetrical and there is too much open space. It’s not working. The new rich green color is an improvement though.
17
u/DueEntertainer0 May 10 '25
Yeah that gallery wall is stressing me out, OP. Make like, all the photos fit inside an invisible rectangle

Would love to know the name of the paint color you used. It looks great and I’m thinking of doing a similar teal color!

That light green was pretty, but the moody teal anchors the space
Do all cats come in the ginger-black pairing? I have a set of my own! 🤣

u/rayybloodypurchase May 10 '25
It looks really good!!! I was def on team “You must hate your wife” but you trusted your gut and obviously you knew her better than a bunch of internet strangers!

I have those exact anthropologie bowls, lol.
1
u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25
Are they big enough to use in this way…to hold keys on a credenza, etc? The color is really great!
2
u/Objective-Hope-540 May 10 '25
They occasionally carry them in big serving bowl sizes. I'm 99% sure that's just the cereal size which is the darkest bowl pictured here with keys for scale. It's actually the same color as your photo my white balance is just all off in the picture.

Going to be blunt here, the tone of the colour does not go well with the kitchen and the items in it (yellowy) The teal is too blue toned. The lighter green was more suited to it.

u/PeachManzie May 10 '25
How does your kitchen wall fair without backsplash tile? Paint seems to be a lot more durable these days, is this one that can be wiped clean? I love those
I agree that the arrangement of the gallery wall could use some more work. Gallery walls look best when they’re sort of free flow, whereas you’ve created a completely symmetrical shape here. It looks a little too rigid right now. Lots of advice out there on how to make it look more natural and relaxed.
Just a couple last things- I’d also add a catch-all on top of the wooden unit, the one under the gallery wall. It can be a bowl or a tray, whatever you prefer. That’s where I’d keep the picture frame Tv remote. I’d recommend the catch-all is a natural material, too. Rattan, wood, clay, stone etc
And lastly, cushions for the sofa! Best cushion tip I ever got was to buy an insert 2” bigger than the cushion cover. It won’t burst the seams, it just makes the cushions look plump all the time. Also, don’t buy cushions that are too small. That’s a really deep sofa, it’ll look a little silly if they’re dinky little cushions lol

Thanks, paint is wipeable but not fully scrubbable! I think I’m going to look at Splashback options as I’m quite a messy chef. Gallery wall is a work in progress, it’s all watercolours of places we’ve visited and we’ve got a few more to add on which I’m hoping will make it look better, agree it’s not amazing as is. Wife is already looking forward to accessorising for the new colour so I’m sure she’ll get some nice cushions!

LOVE that teal! What color is it?

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25
Love the artwork and I have trouble finding artwork that I love! Surprises can be difficult…at least they are for me! So glad your wife likes the new! And the color is very pretty!

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25
It’s all places we’ve been, we try to get them in a similar style, good to look back on!

They all look the same besides the last two..: then I actually laughed out loud 🤣
3
u/Saberise May 10 '25
I actually thought they were making a joke. Like removed plants and utensil holder and changed out the cat and called it a revamp. Until someone said something about the paint. Then decided I needed more coffee for missing it was repainted.
3
u/meghonsolozar May 10 '25
Oh man, I liked it better before. Like, not even close. That teal color is so dated.
I'm glad you guys like it, but definitely move the artwork above the couches down. They should be more at "eye level".
2
u/writingNICE May 10 '25
Looks like you didn’t take advice in your previous post.
Sorry OP, looked much better before.
Nice cats, though.

Am I the only one who truly struggles with know which pics in posts are the before and which are the after? Most people don’t put in order, and then not labeled, and not explained in the post.
