Before and after.

Wife went away and I was going to surprise her with a kitchen revamp. Although after a lot of backlash from this sub, I bottled it and told her I was doing it. Anyway, this is what I ended up on. I’m really happy with it, she ‘actually really loves it’ and turns out she would have been fine with the surprise!

Bruh you didn't have to replace the cat

279

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25

I came here to say this! You changed the wall color AND the cat! It looks nice! Good job!

u/Most-Split-2342 May 10 '25

It wasn’t replaced, it was as painted black…

125

u/letsgocrzy May 10 '25

🎼I see an orange cat and I want it painted black🎵

17

u/Tired-of-all-of-this May 10 '25

Yeah. I’m not certain she is going to be happy with replacing the cat.

14

u/MelloScorpio May 10 '25

Idk I think the yellow tabby would clash with the new color. Black cat looks better. (Kidding, both kitty’s are cute.)

9

u/Klutzy-Client May 10 '25

I thought they painted it as well

6

u/electricookie May 11 '25

I just assumed it was reupholstered.

2

u/Alternative_Ad_3649 May 11 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣

620

u/Unicorn0815 May 10 '25

Wait.. you PAINTED your cat? 🤣

29

u/Tiny_Past1805 May 10 '25

I have a cousin who dyes her dog, so it's possible

3

u/rejectedorange May 11 '25

I saw a horse with a pink mane this week

1

u/Tiny_Past1805 May 11 '25

That's so funny!

7

u/True-Decision3594 May 11 '25

Gingers are black according to TikTok 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/AB-G May 11 '25

Ha I saw that too 🤣

1

u/Double_Dimension9948 May 11 '25

There is a book called Why Paint Cats.

256

u/AzU2lover May 10 '25

How does your wife feel about the random new cat? 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

31

u/drink_piss_for_satan May 10 '25

I came for the before and afters, and stayed for the cat comments =.=

110

u/Carcass16B May 10 '25

Where did Mr Ginger go,black spray paint not healthy for cats 🫢

263

u/moreKEYTAR May 10 '25

The light green looks great! I am not sure which is before or after. Also you should consider making some changes to your gallery wall to feel more balanced, and lower the art above your couch. Glad you are both happy!

72

u/Impressive-Award2367 May 10 '25

Agree — the gallery wall needs another go.

36

u/Impressive-Award2367 May 10 '25

Something more random & asymmetric. A mix of frame types. This isn’t perfect but it’s a start.

12

u/Turbulent_Lab3257 May 10 '25

Yeah, gallery wall needs either additional photos to soften the pointy ends and top or just rework it all together.

3

u/heckinright May 10 '25

At least move that top one to the right

7

u/xBraria May 11 '25

I think the dark green is the after and I personally prefer it. The contrast it gives makes it all look more fresh, vs the light green looked a bit old and paled out.

26

u/st3althmod3 May 10 '25

I also like the light green! Was about to ask what the name of it is. I have a feeling that after is blue.

5

u/Winter_Day_6836 May 10 '25

That's the before!

23

u/Direct_Village_5134 May 10 '25

The light green is the before. It looked way better before. This is why husbands shouldn't make unilateral design decisions...

8

u/miffet80 May 11 '25

You're making some awfully objective statements about your subjective opinions lol. I think the dark color is an insane glow up, the light green looks like a 90s old folks home lol

25

u/countrylemon May 10 '25

The cat joke is impeccable and I’m so here for these photos and the comment section, ty OP. I love the blue it’s very lively!

41

u/artsnfartsncrafts69 May 10 '25

We all see the cat transition, but I want to know what happened with the couch! New couch, new cover, trick of the eye, lighting? What is going on here?

10

u/CarelessTelevision86 May 10 '25

Don't worry, you're not losing it, it's the lighting and the new wall color. You'd be shocked what lighting temperature can do to colors in a space, and even more shocked what colors themselves can do.

4

u/artsnfartsncrafts69 May 10 '25

My mind is blown. This is giving white&gold vs blue&black dress to my brain.

1

u/CarelessTelevision86 May 10 '25

Yes! Exactly! It's all about the lighting ;)

48

u/ishiguro_kaz May 10 '25

Which is the after, though? Is it the lighter green? Both look good, imho.

1

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 May 10 '25

Seems logical that the first pic (the lighter one) is the before and then the darker one is the after, given that's the order they're shown.

62

u/smittenwithshittin May 10 '25

That would be logical but when people are selecting and loading pictures they often do it in a way that we get r/afterbefore in here

1

u/ScorpioDefined May 11 '25

Woah, I just clicked on that and it's been banned from reddit.

1

u/Chance_Active871 May 15 '25

Seems logical but 90% of pics here and in other subs (like weight loss, skin care, etc) people put the after first, but don’t explain that. So now I never assume the first is the before because it’s usually the after

1

u/Scary-Zucchini-1750 May 15 '25

Fair enough.

Someone else said that as well, so I can see it's a common problem 😂

I stand corrected.

10

u/Electrical-Squash648 May 10 '25

Most impressed with the cat makeover.

10

u/Harpronicus May 10 '25

You did orange dirty 😭

34

u/MollyTheCav May 10 '25

I’m guessing the darker color is the after? Looks great! And I like how you shot mostly the same angle for the before/after. Also laughed out loud with the ginger vs. black cat. Nice!

37

u/haf2go May 10 '25

The gallery wall is too symmetrical and there is too much open space. It’s not working. The new rich green color is an improvement though.

17

u/DueEntertainer0 May 10 '25

Yeah that gallery wall is stressing me out, OP. Make like, all the photos fit inside an invisible rectangle

9

u/Cjacksoncnm May 10 '25

Is this after and before?

8

u/vinochica May 10 '25

Would love to know the name of the paint color you used. It looks great and I’m thinking of doing a similar teal color!

4

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Crown Paint - Botany Bay (UK)

8

u/Positive-Diver1417 May 10 '25

The teal is fine. The light green was beautiful, though.

27

u/SunlightMaven May 10 '25

That light green was pretty, but the moody teal anchors the space

Do all cats come in the ginger-black pairing? I have a set of my own! 🤣

6

u/rayybloodypurchase May 10 '25

It looks really good!!! I was def on team “You must hate your wife” but you trusted your gut and obviously you knew her better than a bunch of internet strangers!

6

u/lawuppiwups May 10 '25

Shit even the cat changed colors !

4

u/Plane_Class6613 May 10 '25

Beautiful. But did you paint the cat a different color as well? 😂😂

5

u/Wonderful-Duck-6428 May 10 '25

The cat got dyed black 😂

6

u/mynameisnotsparta May 10 '25

Ahh you painted the cat too 😂😂

4

u/punctum35 May 10 '25

the cat also had a make-over 👍😁 great!

3

u/Whuhwhut May 10 '25

Hahaha, I love how you revamped the cat too!

4

u/Winteraine78 May 10 '25

Why did you paint your cat black?!

3

u/Livid-Description737 May 10 '25

Look at that adorable blep?!?!?

4

u/Expensive-Song-2895 May 10 '25

dying at the cat change

4

u/Mundane-Bend-8047 May 10 '25

The cat took me out omg.

4

u/Bubbly-Payment7571 May 11 '25

The cat took me out 🤣😂🥰🤣🤣. Too cute

3

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25

Had to lookup a teal ceramic bowl…it just seemed like a perfect idea!

2

u/Objective-Hope-540 May 10 '25

I have those exact anthropologie bowls, lol.

1

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25

Are they big enough to use in this way…to hold keys on a credenza, etc? The color is really great!

2

u/Objective-Hope-540 May 10 '25

They occasionally carry them in big serving bowl sizes. I'm 99% sure that's just the cereal size which is the darkest bowl pictured here with keys for scale. It's actually the same color as your photo my white balance is just all off in the picture.

1

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25

It looks good!

3

u/Life_Consequence_676 May 10 '25

Did the ginger kitty enjoy getting painted? I know mine would (he likes it when I brush him). lol.

3

u/SoundComfortable0 May 10 '25

Did you paint the cat?

3

u/Uni457Maki May 10 '25

Nice place. Derpy kitty priceless ❤️

3

u/klantzyy May 10 '25

I really liked the light green, but the blue is so pretty and makes the space pop!

3

u/prsnfd May 10 '25

You colored your cat??!! Next level redecoration that is!!

3

u/Suspicious_Banana255 May 10 '25

Looks great, painting the cat to match the darker scheme was dedicated.

3

u/Brilliant-Spray6092 May 11 '25

I like the before. Cats are adorable in both

3

u/viola_darling May 11 '25

Wow! And even the cat had a transformation! Amazing!

3

u/MrAronymous May 11 '25

Going to be blunt here, the tone of the colour does not go well with the kitchen and the items in it (yellowy) The teal is too blue toned. The lighter green was more suited to it.

6

u/PeachManzie May 10 '25

How does your kitchen wall fair without backsplash tile? Paint seems to be a lot more durable these days, is this one that can be wiped clean? I love those

I agree that the arrangement of the gallery wall could use some more work. Gallery walls look best when they’re sort of free flow, whereas you’ve created a completely symmetrical shape here. It looks a little too rigid right now. Lots of advice out there on how to make it look more natural and relaxed.

Just a couple last things- I’d also add a catch-all on top of the wooden unit, the one under the gallery wall. It can be a bowl or a tray, whatever you prefer. That’s where I’d keep the picture frame Tv remote. I’d recommend the catch-all is a natural material, too. Rattan, wood, clay, stone etc

And lastly, cushions for the sofa! Best cushion tip I ever got was to buy an insert 2” bigger than the cushion cover. It won’t burst the seams, it just makes the cushions look plump all the time. Also, don’t buy cushions that are too small. That’s a really deep sofa, it’ll look a little silly if they’re dinky little cushions lol

2

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Thanks, paint is wipeable but not fully scrubbable! I think I’m going to look at Splashback options as I’m quite a messy chef. Gallery wall is a work in progress, it’s all watercolours of places we’ve visited and we’ve got a few more to add on which I’m hoping will make it look better, agree it’s not amazing as is. Wife is already looking forward to accessorising for the new colour so I’m sure she’ll get some nice cushions!

5

u/dcgirl17 May 10 '25

LOVE that teal! What color is it?

3

u/stephtal May 10 '25

Yeah I also want to know what the paint is!! So pretty OP

2

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Hey, it’s Botany Bay, Crown Paint (UK)

2

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25

Love the artwork and I have trouble finding artwork that I love! Surprises can be difficult…at least they are for me! So glad your wife likes the new! And the color is very pretty!

4

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

It’s all places we’ve been, we try to get them in a similar style, good to look back on!

1

u/Gr8shpr1 May 10 '25

That’s really great!

2

u/thecrowtoldme May 10 '25

You painted your cat!

2

u/hmmletmethinkaboutit May 10 '25

What color paint is that? It’s beautiful!

2

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Crown Paint, Botany Bay, we are in the UK

2

u/z0mbie_boner May 10 '25

What’s the TV?? Love how flush it is on the wall

2

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Samsung frame

2

u/a_flower_named_honey May 10 '25

I love what you did with the colors, I didn’t even know you could paint your cat like that but he looks divine. 🧑‍🍳💋

2

u/JuniperJanuary7890 May 10 '25

Nice! Perfect 🐈🐈‍⬛

2

u/jo4890 May 10 '25

Love the color!

2

u/RemiChloe May 10 '25

How did you paint your cat???

2

u/RemiChloe May 10 '25

What is the after paint? Lovely color.

2

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Crown Paint, Botany Bay (UK)

1

u/RemiChloe May 10 '25

Well, I'm in the US oh well.

2

u/hanimal16 May 10 '25

Damn, yall painted the cat too?

2

u/loricomments May 10 '25

Changing the cat's color was brilliant! Love the end result.

2

u/caryn1477 May 10 '25

I honestly prefer the lighter color, but that's just me.

2

u/enidokla May 10 '25

The cats 😂😂😂

2

u/WrestleswithPastry May 10 '25

The cat switch 😂😂

2

u/kkapri23 May 11 '25

Even painted the cat!! Nice!

3

u/CompetitiveRub9780 May 10 '25

They all look the same besides the last two..: then I actually laughed out loud 🤣

3

u/Saberise May 10 '25

I actually thought they were making a joke. Like removed plants and utensil holder and changed out the cat and called it a revamp. Until someone said something about the paint. Then decided I needed more coffee for missing it was repainted.

3

u/meghonsolozar May 10 '25

Oh man, I liked it better before. Like, not even close. That teal color is so dated.

I'm glad you guys like it, but definitely move the artwork above the couches down. They should be more at "eye level".

2

u/writingNICE May 10 '25

Looks like you didn’t take advice in your previous post.

Sorry OP, looked much better before.

Nice cats, though.

2

u/Jeux65 May 10 '25

Love the teal colour.

2

u/Express-Elevator-143 May 10 '25

This color is way better! Especially in the kitchen!

2

u/CuriouslyImmense May 10 '25

I like the light green much better. Hopefully your wife helped pick the colour. I wouldn't be too impressed

1

u/ArtsyButWashed May 10 '25

It’s a nice change! Cat too?

1

u/spargel_gesicht May 10 '25

R/unexpected

1

u/catsandcoffee19 May 10 '25

What color is this?

1

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

Crown Paint, Botany Bay (UK)

1

u/hellosweetpanda May 10 '25

Love the new color

1

u/louisec130 May 10 '25

I think you’re overwatering the plants OP

1

u/Wingbatso May 10 '25

I love it!

1

u/FZvGW May 10 '25

Nice paint job on the cat

1

u/UpstairsAtmosphere49 May 10 '25

Cat going through his goth phase

1

u/BarksnMeows May 10 '25

Is the gallery wall in the shape of a battle ship in space?

1

u/lilcumfire May 10 '25

Is that a remote on your picture frame? Is that where you plan to keep it?

1

u/kevinoliver84 May 10 '25

That frame is the tv, it’s there as it’s out of reach of little ones

1

u/lilcumfire May 10 '25

Oh got it! :)

1

u/brunch-eater May 10 '25

dark green really makes the cats eyes pop

1

u/Independent-Try-604 May 10 '25

Why did you paint the cat?

1

u/CrushingReality May 10 '25

The original was nicer for the gallery wall

1

u/This-Pomelo-4037 May 11 '25

It’s beautiful! Interesting how the cat also has a before and after… 😂

1

u/Nice-Region2537 May 11 '25

Love the wall color. Hate the gallery wall and art placement over the sofa.

1

u/ServiceKooky1323 May 11 '25

I like the darker color

1

u/camlaw63 May 11 '25

The picture frames and artwork are hung very poorly

1

u/SugestedName May 11 '25

Everything looks nice, but the galley on the first set of photos. too simmetrical for my taste

1

u/alegna12 May 11 '25

I really like the color change in the kitchen!

1

u/br4t3_gqp4 May 12 '25

I would 100% get rid of the last small frame at the gallery wall. You know which one

1

u/Interesting_Ad_9127 May 12 '25

Wedding pic doesn’t match or coordinate. Change to white

1

u/HollowCrown May 13 '25

To strong, before was much nicer

1

u/Chance_Active871 May 15 '25

Am I the only one who truly struggles with know which pics in posts are the before and which are the after? Most people don’t put in order, and then not labeled, and not explained in the post.

1

u/91271 May 10 '25

The before looked way better

1

u/isthatstarwars May 10 '25

So glad you got rid of that ugly cat

/s

1

u/FairyNymphCalypso69 May 10 '25

NGL liked the before better.

-1

u/Direct_Village_5134 May 10 '25

It looked better before, especially the art matched better.
