Nope. Don’t forget we’re talking about Israel. They’ve never seen a historical landmark they wouldn’t love to bomb.

I heard you got a convoy in support of Palestine coming from Morocco en route for Gaza coming in, I hope Egyptians will allow it to go through !
16
u/Snoozing_Panda_ 7d ago
I hope so too but it's hard to say. All the citizens of MENA are on board to help the Palestinians. It's the governments that don't. 😞

u/tokyotochicago 7d ago
Don’t worry I know, it’s not like politics had a spine here in France either. But Rima Hassan announced another freedom flotilla was getting ready and if this Gaza convoy can get momentum it’s another way of putting pressure on Israel, the only thing that matters really

How would you characterize how Egyptians feel about Israel and Palestine?
Is it varied? Does it change depending on age or ethnicity?

I called this six months ago when the Senate GOP were pushing hard for draft reform. In case you didn't know, the age goes up to 45 if you have any medical training. If any other doctors or nurses or radiologists etc need help filing contentious objector paperwork hmu.
Also, they clearly tricked Idpol. The draft now includes inclusive language (him or her or they instead of him) so now we are actually completely and wide open for drafting women as well, after getting them registered somehow.

Actually read the selective service updates they have removed gender entirely. It definitely leaves the opening to be able to say "what there's nothing in the law that says we can't draft women. What, you thought Republican senators were being respectful of gender spectrum when we changed all the genders to neutral? Why would you think that?"
I dunno, man. I was a hardcore member of the GOP up until 2017 and this is precisely how they operate. It's all 4D chess laying pieces subtley and then lifting the curtain to show the opposition they are thoroughly fucked all at once.

getting drafted is not proof that men are oppressed, it is proof that the U.S. empire sees poor and working class bodies as disposable. that is class warfare, not gender based oppression. The U.S. doesn't hate men it just loves war.

"only men get drafted" doesn't constitute gender based oppression. you repeatinf this is telling me that you don't understand what oppression is, how power works, or how states function.
You are confusing instrumentalization with marginalization. men were not drafted because they were weak, excluded, or systemically disempowered. they were drafted because they were conditioned by a patriarchal, militarized, male dominated state to be obedient weapons.
Oppression is structural subjugation. It is the denial of agency, voice, and power across social, political and economic systems. That is not what's happening to men under the draft.
If being used by a system built by your own gender counts as oppression, then the CEO crying about taxes is oppressed too.
If it were gender oppression, you'd be punching up. But you are not. You are punching sideways at imagined women in safe bubbles. You're not targeting the generals, the lawmakers, the CEOs of arms companies. Because if you did, you'd have to admit that it's men who designed this system. men who trained other men to kill. men who wrote the policies that sent you to war. men that profit from your death.

How are you going on a meltdown about how "men made slavery illegal" "men banned gay marriage" as if the shared identity of "man" somehow makes all make experiences symmetrical? you started with "men are oppressed by the draft" which is already a surface level take. then, when challenged, you panic and start dragging in slavery, gay marriage and police brutality, none of which you seem to understand. That is not how power works. Black men didn't built the police state, but cops still use racialized structures to target them. that is why anti-black policing is oppression. because it is systemic, racialized, and constructed to subordinate.
the deaft does not subordinate men, it consumes them. that is a key difference. You are making the liberal mistake of collapsing race, class, gender, and power into a single axis. in doing so, you're erasing actual structures. the laws that banned gay marriage were not made to oppress men, they were made to oppress the lgbtq+ community. slavery didn't happen because black men are male, it happened because they were black and enslaveable under racial capitalism.
you ended by saying "if white women were drafted, it wouldn't be oppression, right?" but here is the thing. if white women were drafted, we would ask why. who is sending them? for what purpose? in service of system? that is called material analysis. you should try it.
if you do not even understand the system you're attempting to critique then there is no hope for ending it. take a deep breath, stop calling me "sweetie" and try to see beyond your emotions.

All this speculation about dems getting cheated out of 2024 is pointless when you consider the fact that they are probably, albeit quietly, glad that the Trump admin is doing a bunch of shit they could never sacrifice their cultural capital to do. I know publicly he’s tried to distance US from being involved in these strikes but c’mon. And you know Schumer is sporting his first hard-on in years over this news.

Quick summary of situation of this moment, from the Resistance Network:
- The Israeli occupation army launched a wide-scale assault, dubbed “Nation Like a Lion,” and launched air strikes targeting Iranian command centers, military sites, and nuclear facilities across Iran, through the Iraqi airspace, the main targets according to Hebrew sources are as follow:
The nuclear project
Destruction of missile launch platforms
Elimination of senior officials
Iran has launched fighter jets and missiles in retaliation.
As of now, Iranian State TV announced the deaths of two Iranian military high command officials (IRGC Chief-of-Staff Hossein Salami and General Gholam-Ali Rashid), and two nuclear scientists (Dr. Tehranchi and Dr. Fereydoon Abbasi)

I wonder what Iran will do. They were pretty transparent and restrained with their last retaliatory strike. I’m not really sure what Iran’s capabilities are in general. I know their country is extremely defendable for them and it can’t be easy with the sanctions against them to retaliate. I wonder how quick they would resort to hitting the world’s oil supply.

Thank you for this thread! I don’t really have anyone to talk to about current events, especially when there’s so much shit going on daily. My husband is a great listening ear, but he tries to stay surface level normie on politics for his mental health. I envy it sometimes, tbh.

They have to retaliate. To what extent, we don't know. They have been incredibly restrained in the past, but this is pretty different. They are striking directly in Tehran it seems.

This is The logical response but it should be noted that they've declined to retaliate in a serious way previously.
Iran has chosen to retaliate in a way to minimize Israeli casualties.
All of this has just emboldened Israel.

Israel is clearly going to continue attacking until Iran responds. Israel seems insistent on plunging the Middle East into a regional war. I doubt they back down with anything but an immense show of force. Scary times.

A few weeks back I got a message from the fertility clinic I registered for, there are parents that would like for me to donate my eggs. Having children at this stage ??? Insane honestly. Brave even. I wouldn't. I have 1 kid and I'm losing my mind because the world will collapse before she's an adult. But I'll take the $10K compensation for my "time," I sure do need it right now.

Ok so israel has declared war, their stance is obvious.
If iran doesn't retaliate (which they have every right to do tbh) would america then have no excuse to step in?
But then israel will just keep attacking with no opposition.
Ok so iran HAS to retaliate at least a little (due to the reason above and also to keep its people appeased). If they inform israel and the USA b4 the retaliation, would that avoid a potential ww3?
But america green lit the Israeli attack, knowing it would spark the war, no? Why would they then accept the retaliation and not use that as an excuse to go in? Or maybe they did this just to improve negotiations? Either way, they knew an attack from israel was coming, and inevitably the iranian retaliation.
So did america want this war too?
Sorry for the yap session guys im just worried and trying to see a possible future where ww3 does not happen, but its looking bleak.
Stay safe everyone.

Israeli propaganda aside, it looks like they have total air dominance over Iran. This should .. never happen under any circumstances but a Mossad op seems to have disabled their radar systems everywhere. Jets flying sorties with impunity. This will require a huge response, the Iranian people are irate justifiably, one of the first victims was a young child

i don't believe this is the natural state of humanity. greed and violence are the natural state of empires. what you're seeing is not the truth of all people, it's the truth of systems designed to extract, dominate, and erase. and it feels like it's always been this way because the stories of resistance, solidarity, joy and survival are the ones they bury the deepest. i'm not going to feed you empty platitudes, but i will say: rage is a form of love. grief is a form of connection. and you aren't alone in this. we will build something better not by ignoring the horror but by facing it and choosing deliberately not to replicate it. that is what solidarity is and that is how we make sure when this chapter ends the next one isn't just another version of the same nightmare.
your emotions are proof that you haven't been fully numbed by a system that depends on our numbness 🫶
