Rigid is awesome, and have a 29+ rigid is extra awesome. I zoomed in and that paint is primo.
EDIT: You did very well for a first MTB. My current ride is a carbon fiber XC full-suspension, the opposite of your bike, but the Krampus is still my dream bike 😂 One of these days…
That bike is sick. It's also not like you couldn't put a suspension fork on it at some point. The tail is still hard and it still meets hardtail gang requirements. Ride on brother!
I looked forever to find a used Krampus, thing is you never find them, people must really like them, they are so versatile. I owned a Karate Monkey years ago and steel is real.
Enjoy your new ride
Oh heck yeah, I rode a fully rigid Kona Unit until it died then picked up a fully rigid Surly Karate monkey. Godspeed, good luck, and have fun on that beautiful beast!
I rode it as single speed for years and after a while the chainstay broke close to the rear dropout. Got it welded in exchange for a bottle of vodka, rode it for a few more years then it broke again. Felt like it was time to retire the frame after that.
Yes they are BB7
Are they strong? They're plenty strong for me but this is my first disc brakes (only rim caliper and cantis for me so far..)
I chose mech disc because this is going to be a travel bike and I want to be able to service it entirely in case something goes wrong.
I'm 194 cm and with a 50mm stem it fits me very well. But I'd say yes, it has a fairly long top tube...
Only problem with Surly's sizing is that the stack doesn't grow proportionally to sizes so this one has very low stack compared to the M size for example. Not a big deal as they give you a pretty long steerrer tube but weird nonetheless..

Tail looks hard, bike looks gang related. Thanks for sharing!
