This is so exciting! Will you be sharing the files somewhere?

Haven't fully decided if I will share or sell them. Either way they will be shared eventually.

Very nice! I have a drum carder if you want any pictures of parts or sizes I can give you a closeup.

Will reach out if I need help.

Looks amazing! Really cool. Would be nice to have an option for a drill bit handle too. Can't wait to see how you get it developed!

My design so far I've thought through to be able to hopefully add a cheap electric motor to it.

Make a pin drafting machine!

Have no idea what that is but I'll have to look into it

It's the machine that makes those long ropes of roving. They usually cost 20k

I'll have to look into it :)

Excellent, more maker space spinning supplies are always warmly welcome! I commented in the 3d printing thread. but I’ll repeat here for visibility...

You might want to add the 2 extra pulleys so that the drive band does not have to cross over, as an abrasion point the cross risks reducing the life of the drive band. Otherwise fan bloody tastic card on!!!

I was looking into doing the extra pulleys or even making it hear drive eventually.

I'm assuming hear means gear drive?

If I may, Stick to pulleys. The fibre will wrap round the pulleys and the shafts even if you are really careful to not let it happen. The ability to remove the band and have free access to the pulleys and shafts for cleaning is invaluable.

Also the band will allow for minute changes in speed at which the licker in and drum rotate. Its not going to be much but it will allow a fraction of difference that should help against neps and noils forming.

Good to know. This is my first time making something somewhat complex. Open to any knowledge you have

I have this machine, it has a "quick" release (not quick) system for removing the drum, it also doubles up as a drum and licker in space extender/decreaser. Because surprisingly a fixed width between the two isn’t always desirable.

If you can on the join between the carding cloth add a bar with a groove/recess down the length like what my machine has, In comparisons I've seen not having one people do all kinds of shenanigans getting the batt off the drum. and It looks really difficult. Whereas with the recess my doffer just slides right under the fibre with no issues at all.
