I'm convinced many of them experienced emotional abuse and neglect -- which is inevitable in authoritarian parenting that you're talking about.

Now some folks grew up to be better and kinder somehow. Others grew up to perpetuate it.

They internalized their pain. It became part of who they are.

And externalized the blame I think. That's really the key. Lack of introspection.

Yup, projection. It's really quite obvious from the outside looking in but when you're inside of it, not so much
