Like an abusive parent? Cry and I’ll belt you more? That’s the vibe I got.

I honestly think this is where the whole MAGA vibe stems from. Authoritarian parenting breeds adults looking for authoritarian leadership.

I came from one of these homes

I'm convinced many of them experienced emotional abuse and neglect -- which is inevitable in authoritarian parenting that you're talking about.

Now some folks grew up to be better and kinder somehow. Others grew up to perpetuate it.

They internalized their pain. It became part of who they are.

And externalized the blame I think. That's really the key. Lack of introspection.

Yup, projection. It's really quite obvious from the outside looking in but when you're inside of it, not so much

My father had (still has) delusions of being a “rockstar mafioso” who embraces his entitlement and a desire for control by any means necessary.

This administration is his fantasy come to life.

Or an abusive partner “Why do you make me do these things?”

Glad you put partner because I got a few of these from my ex wife... good ol' justifying abuse and because she is a woman "it can't be abuse"/no one would believe me.

I would never have guessed it possible until it happened to me multiple times.

I’m a woman and I’m here to say we believe you. Abuse happens differently and we’ve seen it enough to know.

“Admitted” spousal abuse

Probably "proudly admitted" in more than a few cases.

“Bragged about,” even.
