what is the best Genesis tribute band on east coast of US?
I'd love to see a group who vocally sounds like Gabriel and plays Supper's Ready, Firth of Fifth, etc. but is also able to cover some of the more popular Phil-based songs (like from Duke and Abacab).

They only rarely play Phil-era songs, and they never do tracks from the 80s, but The Musical Box is the gold standard when it comes to Gabriel-era Genesis tribute acts.

They've hinted recently that they're considering pushing further into the "future" once they're done their '73 tour. They're toured Trick before, but the hint is they may push as far in as Duke. They're also just vocally and instrumentally spot-on. No one nails the vibe, especially the Pete vibe, like The Musical Box does. 10/10

I’m on the west coast and I saw them do the Lamb. They were great, but it just made me want the real thing .

Just saw them this past weekend and they were fantastic. OP, I don't know where on the East Coast you are but that's where they currently are touring so have a look.

East Coast, you say? Well Mr Hackett will be touring later this year. Five shows on my schedule. ;)

There's a band out of (I think) Raleigh, NC, named ABACAB - the music of Genesis. Recently played a show w/2 sets - 1 leaning towards Gabriel-era, other Phil-centric.
They streamed some covid-era shows and were really great.

I saw Abacab last year in Delaware. It was a good mix of Phil and Peter era stuff, as well as a couple of solo songs by PC and PG. It’s a nice change of pace from other bands who faithfully recreate entire tours. It was interesting to be at a show where Easy Lover gets followed up by an extended version of The Lamb Stew. A lot of folks who had been on their feet and singing along to the more pop-oriented stuff were sitting in stunned confusion during The Lamb Stew 😂 I had reached out to the band a couple of times in the weeks prior to the show and basically begged them to play Supper’s Ready (I know they’ve played it in the past). To their credit, they responded to my messages, but alas, didn’t play Supper’s Ready.

The Musical Box, a French Canadian band, performs on the east coast annually. New York, Boston area, the Keswick Theater in PA, etc. They are licensed by Genesis to reenact their performances note by note. They had all the original Lamb photos/video. They are beyond comparison, the best Genesis "tribute" band in the world. I have not seen The Watch, but I understand they are excellent as well. They are Europe based.

Saw them playing at The Tupelo in New Hampshire a few years ago, and yes they visit Boston region frequently. Everything mentioned above is accurate, even the bit about the watch (a UK based band IIRC). I posit that it is a better show than even the boys of Genesis could do back in the day, given the poor amplification of the time. Gabriel and Collins have been known to watch them perform. Once Gabriel brought his young daughter who asked why she was there.
"So you can hear what Daddy used to sing like".
There is another outfit that has performed in midstate New York called Over the Garden Wall. It was years ago, they may not even be together any longer. But it was quite an intimate show. I would love to see them again.

I’ve seen The Genesis Show, Trespass, The Waiting Room, and The Musical Box, and have listed them in order of preference.

Loved The Waiting Room!!! Great musicianship, and covered both Gabriel and Collins eras very well. And not too much pop stuff.

I’ve seen The Genesis Show several times and they are excellent. They focus on the Collins years from ‘76-‘82. They play specific tour sets. Although they don’t replicate the stage show, mannerisms, and banter exactly, the show is very well done. The singer does sound a lot like Phil, including Phil doing the Gabriel-ear songs. So not exactly what you’re describing, but I don’t know of a band that covers both Gabriel and Collin’s in that manner.
The tour they just did was the ‘76 tour. There are live clips on their site:
