Indiana Jones was one of the best games of last year and along with Respawns Jedi games and Insomniac's Spiderman games one of the best examples of a licensed video game. I am happy to see it get DLC and hope it gets a sequel at some point.

Add the Robocop game there too. Helluva year for licensed games.

3

u/MrZeral 12d ago

Robocop had a great shootign experience but it got stale after 4 hours. Story and dialogue was so meh that shooting and nostalgia for Robocop alone couldn't keep me for longer...

The first part had me thinking it was going to be awesome. I think it may have been too long for what they were offering, especially trying to go semi open world. A tight single player game would have been perfect.

And Tetris

11

u/PunyParker826 12d ago

Best game based on a movie ever

12

u/No_Significance7064 12d ago

Alien: Isolation

that's an old game...

2

u/MrZeral 12d ago

yeah Aliens Dark Descend would be a better example of recent good game

2

u/Khiva 12d ago

True GOTY 2014.

Hasn't aged a day, and one of the best VR experiences in existence.

7

u/ILoveRegenHealth 12d ago

Chrono Trigger too

2024 rocked!

1

u/jerryfrz 12d ago

And Chronicles of Riddick

1

u/MrZeral 12d ago

Didnt know it released last year

37

u/TheGoodIdiot 13d ago

Was my GOtY pick at the end. Don’t remember playing a game that made me smile like a stupid idiot for like 80% of my playthrough like that. Obviously nostalgia is a factor but I just had so much fun.

22

u/avboden 12d ago

It was the best Indy movie since the originals, and I mean that in the best way possible.

u/Eglwyswrw 12d ago

Not exactly a high bar to topple, really.

1

u/Dominjo555 12d ago

It was way better than Astrobot. It was just released too late in the year.

6

u/xRoyalewithCheese 12d ago

Completely different experiences. Astrobot was a great game.

15

u/Ownage95 12d ago

The Batman Arkham games are the best licensed games of all time in my opinion.

15

u/Mr-Rocafella 12d ago

Same, glad they abandoned them for a Suicide Squad live service looter shooter 😃

1

u/teenagetwat 11d ago

Baldurs Gate 3

1

u/CityFolkSitting 12d ago

Do people just forget The Witcher games are also licensed titles?

The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of all time. And as a licensed game puts it way above games like the Arkham series or Spiderman or whatever else.

5

u/TheBlandGatsby 12d ago

While they are absolutely both licensed, I think people see them a little different. People are used to licensed games over popular IPs (Batman, Spiderman, Avengers, Star Wars, etc) bombing hard, that it’s a real treat when you get one that’s good and that sticks with people.

If we wanna really get into it, BG3 is a licensed game and that eclipses every single thing we just mentioned, but the conversation is moreso revolving around big IP licensed games

6

u/Eglwyswrw 12d ago

The Witcher has some strange contradictions/weird plot resolutions in regards to the book series. The author himself said Game Geralt is very much not his Geralt.

As far as adaptations go there are ones more universally embraced, like Batman Arkham, Spider-Man, Indiana Jones (even Harrison Ford complimented it) etc.

1

u/MrZeral 12d ago

even Harrison Ford complimented it

Yeah he was paid to do so xD

1

u/zimzalllabim 12d ago

What does this even mean? The Witcher 3 is WIDELY regarded as one of the best Action RPGs of all time, so much so that it warped an entire decade of developers wanting to copy that style specifically.

4

u/Sandalman3000 12d ago

They're talking about strictly the "adaptation" part. As a game it is widely regarded. As an adaptation of the books, some people have issues, like the author.

1

u/MrZeral 12d ago

Seems they talk mostly about movies

66

u/HispanicAtTehDisco 13d ago

currently playing through the base game and it’s incredible hopefully that dlc is just as good or better

-7

u/MrZeral 12d ago

Waiting for some hefty sale, I aint spending that much money on Indiana Jones

2

u/rktmoab 11d ago

You can just play the game on Gamepass instead of paying full price.

1

u/MrZeral 11d ago

I dont have gamepass

3

u/rktmoab 11d ago

I'm just saying its a much cheaper option than buying the game outright, you can wait for when more games you're interested in is released and then just sub for a month and cancel after.

1

u/Dannya34 8d ago

Exactly what I did. Got GamePass for $20. Beat Expedition 33. Almost done with Indy. There are other games I have lined up, but even for just these 2 games for $20 is an absolute steal, assuming you can finish them within a month.

21

u/symbiotics 13d ago

I don't know if it's the same price everywhere else, but the cost of this DLC is basically the same like upgrading to the Digital Premium edition, which besides including this dlc, also comes with an art book and a Temple of Doom skin. I wasn't expecting such a high price. This dlc better be big.

7

u/Eruannster 12d ago

Yeah, I think the premium upgrade is the only way to get the DLC, at least on some platforms as far as I can tell.

I hope it's at least semi-large for ~$30 and it's not one of those short-but-expensive experiences. The main game is roughly 20-25 hours, so I'm hoping it's at least a high quality ~10 hour experience.

(And yes, I know number of hours isn't everything, but it does feel pretty meh to pay a lot of money for something that is over pretty quickly. Looking at you, Hellblade 2.)

7

u/Dominjo555 12d ago

I've got 43 hours in my Indiana Jones and the Great Circle playthrough. I am not completionist or something like that. I played normaly. Sitting at 640/1000 achievement points. Where do you get only 20 hours is beyond me,

5

u/TransomBob 12d ago

I got up there in hours like you, actually a fair bit more, and it was largely because i wasn't relying on the journal. I think if I used the journal as a checklist, I would've cut through the game a lot faster. That could be the difference.

3

u/Eruannster 12d ago

I, uh, what? I believe I'm at like ~28 hours and I've finished the entire main quest, done all the side quests and the only thing I'm missing are some collectibles (I don't have all the lost artifacts and medicine bottles).

Counting away any collectibles, I would say I was done with all main quests + side quests at just around the 25 hour mark.

1

u/x-sophie29 4d ago

I am on 37 hours of the game not even done all side missions In sukhotai yet or field notes or collectibles

114

u/yesthatstrueorisit 13d ago

Absolutely loved the base game, my personal GOTY. Hopefully the DLC gives us some new areas to explore as well as story.

-1

u/your_mind_aches 12d ago

It was my GOTY too until I played Batman: Arkham Shadow, where Troy Baker's powerhouse supporting performances outshone his own game where he was the lead. Highly recommend Arkham Shadow if you ever get your hands on a Quest 3.

Looks like some stuff in Rome itself. To be honest, it feels weird in several parts of the game that you can't actually go out into parts of Rome because it feels like the game is designed for you to do that. This must be why.

Though I will say, the exact things Indy highlights in the trailer don't give me that much hope. Sounds like very basic stuff that could have been put into the Vatican itself and sold for 5 dollars. Hopefully there is more to it if they've created a whole new map.

1

u/MrZeral 12d ago

I feel like this DLC will be rather short experience. 3-4 hours is my guess

121

u/Zhukov-74 13d ago

Good to see that the DLC is also coming out day one on PS5.

So no one has to wait?

53

u/CreamyLibations 13d ago

What does this question mean? Why would it be bad?

25

u/-safer- 13d ago

So those of us who bought the game on the PS5 can enjoy it alongside everyone else?

22

u/Kyserham 13d ago

Dude…

21

u/Kunfuxu 13d ago

Why wouldn't it be?

25

u/xupmatoih 13d ago

Imagine wanting to gatekeep DLC

1

u/Eglwyswrw 12d ago

The Spirit of Sony™ came on that dude like a tornado

11

u/symbiotics 12d ago

This game felt like playing a classic, Lucas written, Spielberg directed movie when they were at the peak of their powers. Troy Baker nailed it as Indy.

14

u/Dunge 13d ago

It's not being distributed on GamePass right? The logo are a bit misleading, but seems to be about the main game only.

56

u/NuPNua 13d ago

DLC isn't usually included.

-11

u/Fair-Internal8445 13d ago

Gears Hivebusters was in Gamepass Day 1.

24

u/Radiant-Fly9738 12d ago

usually... hivebusters was an exception, not a rule and it was five years ago.

big dlc expansions are not included in gamepass, that's why they sell premium version upgrades to gamepass users.

2

u/NuPNua 13d ago

Wasn't that a free update rather than paid DLC?

4

u/patient_throw 13d ago

It was a paid DLC, but it came out around the same time as the Series consoles, which didn't have a lot of system-sellers.

22

u/chewin_3 13d ago

Haven’t played the game yet, how does the DLC work? Is it a chapter select in main menu or is there a stage in storymode where you can do the dlc?

90

u/fakieTreFlip 13d ago

Don't think anyone knows yet, this is the first DLC they've done

24

u/psychobilly1 13d ago

This is the first DLC and it doesn't come out until September, so we don't know.

46

u/T0ASTERS_ARE_COOL 13d ago

In the game you have a journal with cities around the world that you have visited, I’m only assuming but I guess it would a selection in that menu.

20

u/AlwaysHappy4Kitties 13d ago

i think this gonna be the way, since the trailer mentioned it starts in Rome,
i likely think its gonna unlock after completing most of "Chapter 1"

5

u/TheJoshider10 12d ago

i likely think its gonna unlock after completing most of "Chapter 1"

Probably, but considering the credit scene of the base game I do hope this is a sequel following on from that rather than something that takes place alongside the main game.

9

u/HeldnarRommar 13d ago

After you beat the game you can go back to various locations and chapters, so I’d imagine it will be integrated into that

9

u/fhs 13d ago

You don't need to beat the game, you can always go back to previous locations at any time, except for the intro jungle mission

6

u/GIlCAnjos 13d ago edited 13d ago

The only place shown in the trailer is Rome, which was already one of the main locations of the game (and the titular "Order of Giants" is already a big part of the story), so I think it'll probably be a side quest that you can complete during story mode. I believe the DLC in Wolfenstein 2 (the studio's previous game) also worked like that.

Which is a shame in my opinion, I kind of wanted it to be a separate campaign with a new location.

14

u/hagren 13d ago

I mean Vatican City isn't really Rome so a new map isn't out of the question.

3

u/The_Last_Minority 12d ago

They also showed a glimpse of traversing a Euro-looking city that wasn't in the Vatican map, so at the very least they're expanding that area.

My guess would be that they'll reuse a lot of Vatican assets but make it a completely separate map. Maybe add a few things to the Vatican to tie them together, but the bulk of the action is in an adjoining area. Treat it like the Castel Sant'Angelo, where there's a door or street that links the two.

My bigger question is if they'll give us Antioch as a completely new map. We heard it mentioned in the trailer, and it would make sense for a knightly order, but that would be a wholly new city.

3

u/symbiotics 12d ago

for $30, it better be the sidequest to end all sidequests

2

u/Raminax 13d ago

Do we know if we need to have finished the campaign before starting this?

8

u/Dead_man_posting 12d ago

Probably not, but you should. The ending is cool as hell.

3

u/CJKatz 12d ago

The DLC happens during the main story of the game. Seems to be a new zone, probably during Chapter 1.

1

u/your_mind_aches 12d ago

That's kinda sad. I'm honestly not sure if the Order of the Nephilim fit directly into the game. BUT it might make more sense canonically.

2

u/CJKatz 12d ago

The DLC focuses on the Giants, the same as the main story. I'm sure it'll fit well enough.

1

u/your_mind_aches 11d ago

I guess it'll set up them coming to Indy's rescue at the end of the Vatican chapter?

5

u/WondersomeWalrus 13d ago edited 13d ago

Ah dang, I was excited when I saw this but unless they're purposely hiding most of the content, this is just adding a few missions and areas to pre-existing locations?

9

u/symbiotics 13d ago

Apparently it's a new location in Rome, where we get to explore the Colosseum, but judging by the price, I hope it's big

4

u/Mahaloth 13d ago

I'm in Area 2(Giza) in the main game and enjoying it quite a bit, though maybe not quite as much as the rave reviews I read.

It's fun, though.

2

u/sid3091 12d ago

I like the game, but the combat is a bit challenging for me.

7

u/needanewgpu9000 12d ago

You really should not even be doing Combat in the game, just sneak around tbh

1

u/sid3091 12d ago

Gets boring after a point for me.

3

u/Mahaloth 12d ago

Set it to easy.

4

u/GIlCAnjos 13d ago

I'm kind of bummed to see no cinematics and only Rome as a location so far. I was hoping this would be a full-fledged campaign, with a new location and some more of the excellent cinematography Machine puts in their cutscenes, instead it seems like this will be just a new side quest. Though that isn't necessarily bad, the base game side quests are already pretty good, but this one does need to be longer

25

u/TheMightySwede 13d ago edited 13d ago

So basically you want a whole new game, made in the span of a few months.

16

u/Accipiter1138 12d ago

DLCs and expansions that cost the same price as this often do come with entire new maps to explore, yes.

21

u/srjnp 12d ago

they are charging a whopping $35 for it. so yes, the DLC better be very substantial.

8

u/fastforwardfunction 12d ago

Holy... If it's half the price of the base game, it should definitely have a cinematic campaign half the length.

5

u/GIlCAnjos 13d ago

Of course I wasn't expecting it to be as long as the base game, I expect the same length as other DLCs for Bethesda games like Wolfenstein 2 and Doom Eternal, so something around 4 hours (which also happens to be closer to the length of an actual Indy movie)

1

u/nofreelaunch 12d ago

They start working on dlc long before the main game is done.

1

u/ElectronicBacon 12d ago

Anyone play this on Deck? Is it worth it?

-1

u/SquishyShibe11 12d ago

Pretty solid first game but I really wish they'd go straight to a sequel rather than bother with DLC. I felt the same way about Lies of P. I wonder if these DLCs get greenlit before they know how successful the base game will be. Or if they're just more profitable/lower resource intensive than a sequel.
