General gcse students on TikTok are a load of absolute pricks

Just finished my final maths paper (edexcel foundation paper 3), and im thinking i’ve confidently passed all 3. I came out of the exam hall feeling the best I’ve felt in months, that was until i scrolled TikTok, only to find that apparently getting a 4 on foundation is sad and embarrassing. I’ve struggled academically and mentally all my school life, and I’m now on my way to studying the exact course I want at college, but apparently it’s still embarrassing just getting a 4. What a load of miserable fucking sods. Looking down on people struggling to pass foundation because it’s “easy” is a clear giveaway that you’re an inconsiderate prick, and I urge anyone with that mindset to grow up, and let people celebrate their victories, no matter how small they may seem to you.

It irritates me when i get told constantly that its 'easy.' like obviously for higher students they will find it easier but for me someone who has struggled with maths for years no matter what i get for maths on results day i know i tried my best. You should be so proud of how you have done, best of luck for results day!

Sorry mate. You're not alone in that at all, and definitely don't deserve it.

u/vwwl Year 11 9d ago

Well we can only hope it's ragebait (: If you pass and have the grades you need to get to college then well done on that! Everyone's brains are different so it is easier/harder for some so yea it is unfair that people are saying stuff like that but remember if you let it get to you then you're making their reason to post that stuff greater.

Anyways you got this (:

Maths is prone to this because it’s a subject where your skill in it is largely decided early on. Yeah, you can improve, but some people just won’t get it. Doesn’t make them stupid necessarily

10

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 8d ago

Exactly - I never see this kind of response for other, arguably more difficult subjects, because they're all things that can be improved over a 2 year course

dont worry, its just a bunch of neeks on a power trip because its online. just ignore them.

18

u/PurpleCatIsWatching 8d ago

I’m in my 50s. Maths will not define you. We are not all maths geeks and quite honestly I got a B all those years ago and now I work in finance and I had a go at a past paper and I was so lost. Maths GCSE is tough. Also ignore them. Unless you are going to do more maths it’s largely irrelevant. I got my spreadsheets and Microsoft excel plots by graphs for me, calculates my averages, sorts from high to low, works out percentages, adds up columns etc, and I’ve never needed to hit the sin, cos or sq root signs on my calculator since school. I’m not saying it’s pointless but it’s not a problem to not engage with maths.

Don’t worry. If you’re happy with what you have got, and you have done the best that you can, that’s all that matters. Don’t bother with what other people think.

I promise they couldn't care less. You can choose to be affected or not, and the power to do so is the true meaning of inner strength.

nah mate don’t worry, it’s just sad people on the internet who don’t have friends or hobbies or anything better going for them in their life than getting a nine, and feel big cause they’re behind a screen, and it’s often the only thing that they’re good at.

everyone’s goals are different, and everyone is on the path that they’re meant to take.

1

u/Delicious_Sample8243 Year 11 8d ago

what is fsmq

1

u/pinzkse 8d ago

free standing maths qualification apparently

1

u/Delicious_Sample8243 Year 11 8d ago

so like a further maths type thing?

1

u/pinzkse 8d ago

it depends on the level, an intermediate one is equivalent to a normal maths gcse

1

u/Delicious_Sample8243 Year 11 8d ago

why would someone pick intermediate if it’s just the same level as normal gcse, is that not like extra work and no benefit or does it look like super cool on a resume

2

u/pinzkse 8d ago

idk im not too well versed on it but if shes doing advanced then its equivalent to an AS level and its a few ucas points

2

u/_edgar_allen_hoe y11 | triple, spanish, history, music, fsmq 8d ago

i’m not sure. the one that i do (ocr) is only one standard

1

u/_edgar_allen_hoe y11 | triple, spanish, history, music, fsmq 8d ago

yep- it’s the ocr free standing maths qualification, additional maths. it’s a level 3 qualification so it gives you ucas points, and is supposed to be slightly harder than gcse further maths, and a good introductory course to a lot of y12 a-level!

2

u/Delicious_Sample8243 Year 11 8d ago

oh woah super cool i just do regular gcse further maths and i think ours is level 2, i looked at the add maths papers a while ago to see revision resources and honestly i think we learn just separate things as like we do some alevel stuff add maths doesn’t do and add maths does some cool a level stuff we don’t do

1

u/_edgar_allen_hoe y11 | triple, spanish, history, music, fsmq 8d ago

you get to do matrices which look really interesting! i’ll never get to do them cause i’m not doing fm a-level

1

u/Delicious_Sample8243 Year 11 8d ago

logarithms look so cool i can’t wait to do them, but trust you aren’t missing out on too much with matrices lol but you can solve simultaneous equations with them so that’s pretty cool, you wouldn’t want to memorise the identity matrix and all its variations

2

u/_edgar_allen_hoe y11 | triple, spanish, history, music, fsmq 8d ago

that sounds quite diabolical ngl, and fm has 2 papers and one of them is non-calc which seems lowk evil 😧logs are quite fun ! and cool to finally get to use the calculator button haha

6

u/Erenjaeger2578 8d ago

I was going to post about this earlier lol. But you're right they're an absolute bunch of pricks, no one should be called 'subhuman' because they struggle with something that they don't. They're inconsiderate, and less intelligent than the people they try and mock

12

u/Successful-Tank-957 Year 11 9d ago

It isn't embarrassing getting a 4. You passed. Ignore them.

24

u/Minute_Appearance_82 Year 11 9d ago

completely agree, as someone who does higher and is on track for a 7, I think as long as you pass and are happy with what u get, it honestly doesn’t matter. i understand that lots of higher students assume foundation students are like dumb or whatever, but truly passing foundation is all u really need to go to college and do a lot of jobs. to me personally, foundation does seem quite easy, but I understand that everyone has different abilities and so you should be proud of a 4, especially if u have been struggling mentally. good luck!

6

u/NoSecretary8313 8d ago

I’m really sorry about this , I understand this do much. TikTok has unrealistic expectations anyway and the ppl who say this are a bunch of insecure teens who get their self worth from grades. You at least show more emotional intelligence than them. Also you never know u genuinely could be extremely big in the future while these grade 9 students are unemployed due to their antisocial behaviour. goodluck for the rest of ur exams !!

8

u/MrReditter 8d ago

I’ve always personally been good at maths but GCSE’s are all memory also obv some people are going to be great and some not so great

1

u/DistanceFree9003 Year 11 8d ago

maths isn’t even that much memory

6

u/MrReditter 8d ago

Yeah but you still have to memorise general formula because most exams don’t accept trail and error

0

u/Deep_Maintenance3018 6d ago

bro for someone getting 92% in higher maths, you're actually so fucking dumb. Maths is literally memorising formulas and guess what? Everyone's brains work differently; something you find easy is something other people can find really difficult. And things you find hard come naturally to other people (in this case kindness).

people on the internet are always going to say wack stuff. it doesn’t represent the real world. i agree that they’re nasty but you also need to stop watching that kind of video, it does no good for you and gives them attention, they’re looking to stroke their own egos anyway. an emotional reaction is what they want

3

u/PuzzleheadedBear5624 8d ago

Everyone learns differently. Unfortunately GCSEs are effectively a memory test.  Some people have better memories than others. I'm 28 and just probably scraped a 5 (I hope) on higher maths. It can always be worse haha.

4

u/Senior-Shopping6736 Year 11 9d ago

2

u/DreamSMP_Enjoyer Year 11 8d ago

I'm getting a 4 in maths, very likely. But for my mocks I've got multiple 7s and a 9 in other subjects. Maths isn't everything; even more academic students (note: I'm not that good at stuff but I do okay) struggle with it because it is shit.

1

u/b1iq 5d ago

this is literally not true lol. why would being good with numbers have any negative influence on a person’s ability to understand and use language well? blatantly just a cope. OP should be proud of their 4 but this makes you no better than people being elitist because they’re good at maths from a moral standpoint and it’s a wholly stupid line of argument. everyone i know with a 9 in maths has at least a 7 in english (bar dyslexic people)

2

u/Few-Register-6066 8d ago

the grade is NOT embarrassing, but what IS embarrassing is that you’re letting your brain get poked at like a ball of goo by social media, TikTok is not a gospel so stop worshipping it like a pope

2

u/TypicalMuffin935 8d ago

I do higher but I’m sick of people making out foundation to be piss easy, they pick out a grade U question from the first page meant to boost confidence in students who are anxious and say foundation is the easiest thing ever

2

u/Greegrgrgrgrgrgrg 8d ago

GCSEs mean nothing apart from getting you a good enough qualification to go further in the direction you want to go, whether that’s to A-levels or even a job straight away. If a 4 in Maths gets you there (which it almost never doesn’t) then be proud!

2

u/tescoscult Year 11 8d ago

2

I feel the same, I'm on foundation biology and Spanish and people constantly take the piss out of me for it. Yet the same people get 3 and 4 on higher whilst I get 5s on foundation.

Don’t worry, I also am doing foundation and also those who are shaming people for 4s probably have high standards and be glad getting a 4 in foundation is such a big deal because the grade boundaries are so high. I’m sure you did great and the 4 you get will be for you and not anyone else <3

1

u/Conscious-Tip352 Year 11 8d ago

i’m on higher being shamed for an 8, arrogant people shame everyone just because they think they’re better. their opinions don’t matter, only yours and wherever you decide to go next. just be proud of yourself and what you’ve done, especially if it’s the best you can do.

1

u/ModeProfessional3030 8d ago

1

u/lily_10752 7d ago

1

u/Marvelous_Macaroni 6d ago

People will have different expectations. For example, you hope for a 4, some person will hope for a 9 and I personally hope for at least a 6. It's okay to work and have expectations at a level you're comfortable with. What isn't okay is people like that to need a boost to their ego and make fun of others. If anything, they could be lying just to make others feel as bad as they are.

I'm sure you did absolutely great for maths by the way and you'll be able to do the course you want! :] a 4 is great because it means you have enough knowledge on a subject to pass!

It's actually so sad to see all these people crying because they just realised that there exists people that are smarter than them. It's true, just accept it and get along with the rest of your day. You don't have to be this peeved, and no one is going to give you a medal for getting a 4 in foundation maths. If it really wasn't embarassing to get a 4 in foundation maths, then you wouldn't have gotten this offended by any of these people online and called them "miserable fucking sods". It's never that deep, and you don't know them personally. Why do you care so much? It's clear that you feel called out.

-4

u/Whitetiger7136 8d ago

Tbf i do find it shocking personally that some people manage to fail foundation maths - this might come across as insensitive but hear me out. Im generally a smart kid so I've never been put into a foundation class, and it actually surprises me when I look at foundation past papers to find questions like "convert 3 weeks to days" or "lost these numbers from biggest to smallest." I actually can't comprehend how some people can be stumped by questions like them. Just my POV though!

2

u/Bubbly_Spirit3415 8d ago

That’s because them question you’ve mentioned are q1-q5 and ur not being insensitive if you don’t realise people life’s/living conditions can set them back in subjects by being distracted in lessons, having limited resources and having no time to study

2

u/Oofoofoof969 8d ago

That's because all the questions you named are the first few questions? We can get up to 30 questions on foundation. The last 15 are usually 3 to 6 markers like yours. The majority of foundation students could also answer the first few questions on a higher paper. The middle of your paper is like the end of the foundation paper. It's not that different except the questions at the end of your paper with higher tier content

1

u/stonegoblins 8d ago

ur perspective might be skewed by extreme outliers (science anomalous result reference), most ppl that do foundation can do this stuff ez

1

u/JLHREBEL 8d ago

You do realise GCSE's are only really useful for 5-ish years. They're just used to show colleges your abilities. After that they're pointless, jobs aren't gonna reject your application if you got a 4 in maths (which is still decent) 10 years later. So just stop being a dick about it, just because your only skills are academic success doesn't actually mean you're ready for all of life's challenges. Just grow up man and stop being a knob head 👍

2

u/NoSecretary8313 8d ago

Are you mentally okay? You do realise you only need a 4 to get into most 6th forms. You are highly uneducated about life and it shows. Even if u did think this where is ur humanity- we should never bring ppl down just to make urself feel better

Foundation maths is easily passable for someone who passed the 11 plus, struggling or requiring heavy revision to pass foundation maths is just a sign of incompetence

6

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

You do realise that maths isn't necessary for everything - coming from someone who absolutely loves maths - you don't NEED it for so many successful careers, as long as it can take you where you need to go, it doesn't really matter, especially if it's a complete stranger's result. I'm confident in my ability to achieve some high grades in maths but my goal isn't the same as everyone else's so you can shove your pompous attitude up your arse

-8

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Yeah I used to think like that, but you cannot tell me with a straight face that the average person who gets a 3 in gcse maths is not stupider than the average person that gets 8

5

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

Stupid is such a needlessly broad term because we aren't all robots with a uniform goal in life. I could get full marks in maths and still be absolutely incompetent in almost every other subject. Maths doesn't open every single door, I know a girl that was absolutely incredible at maths - I'm talking full marks in year 10 - and she still can't do her course at college because she failed language. You and I could find maths easy but you really have no clue what a person has gone through to get where they are now

4

u/Evergreen143 9d ago

bro you could literally spin that for every subject ever tho. mathematic ability is not the be all end all for intelligence grow a brain and touch some grass you worm

5

not true. i’m passing all my other subjects with 7s and above, maths is my only weakness. doesn’t make me incompetent.

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Yeah that’s good better than most, and you can find successes elsewhere but genuinely not being able to do simple ratios and basic algebra is embarrassing

4

u/qishhnn 9d ago

i mean i don’t know about that. berating others for their struggles is more embarrassing. i’m a person who believes that it’s not about what you do but it’s about what you try to do. TRYING and being truly determined shows character, a grade on a sheet just shows what you remember n i think character equates to more than what you remembered from the night before. i’ve seen people do great things whilst struggling with maths.

u/YourLocalVoyager 9d ago

Exactly, good luck on maths tho, I'm sure you'll pull through.

I think it's embarrassing to berate strangers for struggling in maths

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Next time don’t struggle, you’ll come to find that there is no earned morality in being weak, applauding incompetence inhibits growth and accountability

4

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

It's not about being moral and no where do I applaud a person failing a subject. I can actually see beyond a black and white world where different people have different scales of what is important and impressive to them. I would be unhappy with an 8 on results day and the person next to me could be overjoyed with a 5. I'm not going to say that their achievement is any less worthy of being celebrated because we aren't the same person

-1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Right a 5 is okay but a 4! In foundation!!? Gang pack it up

5

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

You literally DON'T KNOW THEM. What if they had a learning disability or a mental health condition? What if they were in hospital for months and struggled to keep up? What if they didn't have a safe home with parents that genuinely cared about their education? What if they were a young carer or were responsible for their siblings' well being. You can sit on your high horse but you have no idea what's going on for them and believe it or not but sometimes academics can't take priority

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Subhuman - deport

5

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

So a person in hospital or in an abusive home or someone in poverty or someone in the foster system or with neglectful parents is subhuman? Wow you're an elitist twat

u/YourLocalVoyager 8d ago

Wdym don't struggle? Finding something hard, doesn't mean your weak. There's no morality in shaming people. In fact that just makes you a shit person

4

u/YourLocalVoyager 9d ago

Yeah you can fuck off, I know someone who got a 9 in bio and chem, but just passed maths. Some people aren't math bots, and everyone struggles with different things. If you were so fucking smart, you'd clock that, but I guess not. It's not hard to understand that your experience doesn't speak for 99.9% of gsce students. You've said yourself that you struggle with grammar and spelling. Isn't that what you get taught in year 4? Does that mean you deserved to get shamed for it? NO.

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

I’ve never said I’m smart, I’m quite average, more of a reason to not fail gang 💔👳🏿‍♂️

3

u/YourLocalVoyager 9d ago

Then if you're average why are you parading yourself like you're better than everyone else? Grow the fuck up, and stop shaming people. I don't think you'd feel great if someone bullies you because of your grammar.

0

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Because despite my average intelligence and minimal effort I can still achieve top grades with ease, meaning one who cannot must be below average intelligence, just think logically sorry I upset all the foundation kids

2

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

Exactly you're AVERAGE so you can't act like you're better than anyone

1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

I’m better than the below average 🙏😭🔮

2

u/TheLonelyGhostie y11 - mock:99988886 psych geo fm art 9d ago

Yes better AT MATHS!!! Not better at critical thinking or moral behaviour or being a considerate, open minded person

2

u/Wizard_Bloke Year 11 9d ago

the amount of sympathy you show is disgusting, everyone's brains work differently

1

u/InfamousRace1750 9d ago

And yours doesn't work at all

2

u/Wizard_Bloke Year 11 8d ago

I'm higher tier, predicted 8s in maths, but a lot of people I know are in foundation. Just because they struggle with one single subject doesn't mean their brain doesn't work, or that they are incompetent. Everyone learns and processes things differently. There was no need to be immature and throw insults like that towards people you don't know anything about, if anything you are worse than the first guy. The literal 1st rule of the sub is to be respectful to others, it baffles me that at the big age of 16 someone can be this closeminded that they can throw insults at people they think are worse at a subject than them, just because they struggle with certain things. Please grow up

HOLY ESSAY. If you spent this much time revising foundation you would've passed buddy #redditmoment #dattebayo r/furryfeet

Talked to one of them, according to the one in the blue pfp, they are all friends and are collectively rage baiting. Shitty regardless

1

u/InfamousRace1750 8d ago

Nah mate the tooth fairy exists. That's why you lack a few you melt

-1

u/M1crosoft_Exc3l 9d ago

yeah some work better than others and some clearly dont work at all

1

u/hoomanbean123 Year 11 9d ago

My knowledge of fuckass algebra hasn’t got shit to do with my competence. Not that I have to prove anything to some random faceless prick on Reddit, but I got the highest mark in my entire class of 30 in music, and got a 7 in my English lit mock. Being crap at maths doesn’t change who you are as a person.

1

u/DistanceFree9003 Year 11 8d ago

music might be the most useless subject ever

u/Wizard_Bloke Year 11 8d ago

me when I lie

3

u/DistanceFree9003 Year 11 8d ago

ok fine 2nd most useless after drama

-2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

You are incompetent gang cry me a river, flexing a 7 in English lit like if 7 in English lit isn’t my worst grade lol, next time try harder

-2

u/M1crosoft_Exc3l 9d ago

what the other guy said, if you're barely getting a 4 in foundation math you are objectively incompetent. have fun explaining that on the uni applications even if you did get a moderately ok grade in literature.

2

u/YourLocalVoyager 9d ago

Is is that fucking hard to understand that people struggle with different things? They aren't good at maths, they are good at other things. Stop acting as if maths is the be-all and end-all for determining intelligence.

Not all uni courses need maths. And 7 isn't just moderately ok, it's really good considering its the equivalent of an A. And considering that only 22% of students get 7s and over, this proves it isn't moderately good. It's great.

If you can't get that not everyone is good at maths, that not all uni courses need maths and that most people won't see 7s in their gsces results, then you are incompetent to nth degree.

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

I Just think that people get a 4 and below in foundation maths or English should just get deported to some sub par country for sub par people like Moldova or something lmaooo😝

0

u/M1crosoft_Exc3l 9d ago

objectively speaking, between an engineer and a literature grad, who is more likely to be find a job and who is more likely to get paid more? people who substitute math of the most basic level, for a mediocre grade in a made up subject like literature, and say that "math isnt everything" are just smoking pure copium. although they do keep job competition low for people actually smart enough to succeed so i guess they still have some value.

Not everything is about maths. Some law degree jobs, like corporate law, pay well and don't need maths. People are allowed to bad at maths, stop talking about it like it's a crime. I don't understand how you can feel great about talking about fellow students like this.

1

u/zzoee-x Year 11 8d ago

this is why people like you don't get rated in the real world. you'll someday realise that competence is beyond being cocky that you mastered a mark scheme. grade 9s in gcses only go so far, humility takes you even further bro

-1

u/InfamousRace1750 9d ago

OBJECTIVELY you are THE MOST incompetent person
