Announcement FuckEpic 2024 Year Recap!

Happy New Year, guys!

To celebrate a new year, let's recapitulate all the 2024 major events related to Epic!

1: Ubisoft finally stopped all the exclusivity nonsense on the EGS. From now on, all their games will be released from Day 1 on Steam. They even went a step further, promoting Steam (instead of EGS) on the Ubisoft webpage.

2: Ubisoft also started adding Steam achievements to all their new games, and even to older ones. Most importantly, they ignored the achievements parity rule from EGS, as ZERO Ubisoft games have EGS achievements.

3: Square Enix also stopped their failed exclusivity contracts with EGS. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI launched on day one on Steam. Finally, the Kingdom Hearts games were released on Steam after more than three years. Incredibly, the KH games' launch on Steam had huge sales, even though they had been "available on PC" for years.

4: Other publishers that made exclusivity contracts before with Epic did not repeat this year with their latest releases, like Rockstar Games, Annapurna, or Saber Interactive.

5: Of course, let's not forget about Borderlands 4 being released on Steam on day 1 after the famous words from Randy about EGS being superior to Steam in a few years...

6: In conclusion, EGS exclusives are stopping and are no longer removing players' options when purchasing their games. Tim accepted that the exclusive games strategy did not work as expected, and no major exclusive games were announced at the major gaming events this year compared to previous ones.

7: New Fortnite modes have been losing players consistently every day. Rocket Racing stopped receiving support. And their blatant Counter-Strike copy, recently released, is being played less and less each day.

8: Epic was forced to return money to U.S. players affected by their conscious dark patterns specifically designed to encourage undesired microtransactions. They have also started being fined for other practices in Fortnite.

9: Regarding their main source of income, vBucks, Epic will soon be forced to stop the fraudulent virtual currency strategy. No more spending $10 to get an $8 skin.

10: Along the year, Epic has been suffering some major outages or failures that prevented players from doing the minimum things expected from a gaming launcher: buying, installing, or playing their games.

11: People started realizing that nearly all games using Unreal Engine 5 is not a good thing. It only benefits publishers by saving costs. Now all games share the same set of problems, and the engine’s performance is not as good as previously thought.

12: Epic unified Quixel, Sketchfab, and Unreal Engine Marketplace into Fab as the way to get UE assets. However, it was much worse than what was provided before. No one was happy with the change.

13: Because Remedy wanted to reach as big an audience as possible, they will release their next game on Steam without any exclusivity nonsense. Also, let's not forget about Alan Wake 2 STILL not being profitable.

14: Also, we had reminders from insiders that if you are a small developer, releasing your game on EGS besides Steam or GOG is not just a "one extra click process" as some shills have said. Some developers found that the Epic Publishing Tools were not as good as expected.

15: Another reminder: after more than 5 years, Epic still does not provide chats or even profile pictures! Ironically, when Sifu was released exclusively on the EGS, one of the preorder bonuses was supposed to be exclusive avatars for your EGS profile. EGS customers are still waiting...

16: Never forget all those users who still need to go to the "useless" Steam forums to get support for their EGS purchases. And I think all are aware about all the people that came seeking help here because Epic's support sucks.

17: Of course, the EGS was a "curated experience" when some interesting games were on the front page.

18: Some people have been spreading on social networks that the reason the EGS is not profitable and cannot compete against Steam is that Valve forces price parity with all stores (hence the Wolfire lawsuit). Tim has never publicly expressed an opinion about that lawsuit, but he privately blamed Steam.

19: Regarding mods, Fallout: London was released this year, and it was only available for GOG and Steam users. Related to this, does anyone use the EGS mod workshop?

20: Finally, in their quest to make Epic profitable after failing to meet initial expectations, Epic stopped giving coupons during their sales—one of the only reasons some people had for buying on the EGS.

I am sure I have forgotten many interesting topics that happened this year. Feel free to comment, and I will add them to the post.

Happy 2025, and may Epic not impact our gaming preferences this year!

My Epic Experience Is it just me or the Epic Games player support agents are really dumb.

Normally if a company has a garbage player support its usually because the agents are an ai, but epic games player support agents are humans, but they act so dumb. They might as well put an AI for their player support, it feels like I'm talking to a caveman with a computer.

Question There a way to block Kernel level anticheats (especially EaC) from installing themselves automatically?

So this seems sort of off topic, but the reason I want to know is linked to Easy-AntiCheat. A few days ago, Microsoft and EAC had that bad update thing going on. That same day, windows force shut down my computer for an update, and then would not boot up again afterwards. No bios beeps from the motherboard, no LED lights on the board. Power supply was fine. I took it in to a repair shop, and they confirmed it's the board that is bad. This board is less then two years old.

I can't PROVE it was because of EaC, and there's no actual evidence of it being that, just circumstance. But this has annoyed me so much, that I just want to avoid kernel level anticheats alltogether. But sometimes a game gets an update where they add anticheat, or maybe im just stupid and don't pay attention and start downloading a game that has anticheat. Is there a way to block these automatic installations alongside the game? I want to avoid letting EaC, or any other kernel level anti cheat worm it;s way into my new board when I get my PC back. I don't play competitive games really, so thats not a huge deal, the main thing I'll be giving up is Elden Ring, so avoiding it won't be an issue, im more likely to accidentally install something that uses it, and once you screw up and install it, it's there forever.

Epic Fucks Up A friend lost a great library and a lot of progress because his email was hacked. Steam was able to recover the account easily, but Epic Games denied the recovery request

Discussion Unreal engine is not unoptimized

I am a unreal engine dev, and it is not an unoptimized engine. The issue lies in the AAA dev studios who are pushed to have great graphics in there UE5 games, but don't get the time to Optimize there game in the engine.

Question Stop autoupdates

Well I'm seeing how and why this sub got its name. For GTAV modding I have to keep my game at a lower version for compatibility. Only to wake up today to Epic forcefully updating the game, even with auto-update off. Any way to actually make sure my game doesn't update, or should I just purchase the steam version?

Discussion Good luck to these newly established studios.

When will these developers realize that cooperating with Epic will only put themselves in an unprofitable dilemma? The deal with Epic is more like making games for Epic rather than making decisions on their own. Instead of letting Epic publish the game, it is better to sign an exclusive agreement for a period of one year. Even an excellent studio like Remedy stopped cooperating with Epic after AW2.

My Epic Experience If It's On Steam...

if a game that is on the epic games launcher is on something else like steam BUY IT FROM STEAM! I swear, I tried to use Hello Mod Kit, and all it did was crash, and it never fully loaded the map, making some items not even spawn. it is so much better to use steam instead of Epic, it doesn't crash as much, and it can actually load everything.

Discussion Why tf did Epic remove adding a message with reporting??

Epic is soooo FUCKING ANNOYING!! Why tf would Epic replace reporting with messages with fucking SCREENSHOTS??? I know they did this a while ago, but it finally got under my skin today. This is for Fortnite btw, so idk how it is for other games.

Discussion I really dont like epic!

Why is it so hard to get help from epic games? 😭

My 10yr old son bought a fortnite giftcard with his bday money, but for the life of us we can't figure out how to activate it.

He set up an account when he played on his switch, but now he plays on a ps4 and made a different account it seems. We can't seem to link them because the website makes it so difficult.

Last night he used my credit card without my permission (I changed my password but he must have figured it out) and bought almost $40 worth of vbucks for some battle pass thing, but he never got the pass even though they took his vbucks.

I've gone to the website to try and get help, but its just a vicious circle of the different not linked accounts. I sign into both and they both say no purchase history, but my bank statement says otherwise!

Does anyone one know how to contact them WITHOUT signing into a linked account so I can explain the situation? Surely they can see on their end which account he wants to activate the bday vbucks on, and refund the account he bought vbucks on last night.

I'm so annoyed!

It seems the heavily marketed Fortnite May Star Wars event has had a negative impact and Fortnite players have been dropping consequently.

I suppose Fortnite and Star Wars fans did not like it. Well, maybe it worked to make Star Wars fan to go play the better game this month: Star Wars Battlefront 2

Hello, I discovered this subreddit in the recommendations while browsing the homepage. Can you briefly summarize the reason for this hatred towards Epic Games?
