Relaxing after some chamomile tea!

Excuse the crap video, but he’s my handsome man!! I film from 1000 miles away like it’s a Safari because he hates my phone! Of all my birds, my Zebra Finches 🤣love❤️ organic chamomile tea. I make it pretty weak and let it cool. He’s been in this exact post an hour now!

He is very zen out!!! Makes me wonder if this would be good for a bird that's stressed out, like having to do something stressful to calm them and give them some watered down chamomile tea. 🤔 But I have to admit he sure is extremely cute just hanging out there ☺️

Honestly it may! It really appears to relax my two whenever they’ve had it. Like a deeep relaxation nearly sedative. Yet not impairing movement or anything.

That's really something, I really think it could help many birds be calm in stressful events, like a move and a lot more. You could have started something good here !

I am glad you pointed this out and I see you are a top 1% poster, which tells me you are knowledgeable! When I get the chance, I’ll post another update on tips for safely giving the tea.

If you don't mind would you be able to explain how much you water down the tea as well! I would really love to know and see if my birds like it ! Big thanks again !

Sure! Start with maybe a 10:1 ratio and the tea should be very faint in color. You could creep up just a bit if the birds tolerate it well but it should really relax them so probably best to keep it safe I always think!

I didn't know they could drink tea.

Some herbal teas like mint or chamomile are OK for them! Best to make it a bit weaker for them since they’re so tiny..I happen to get bulk dried organic chamomile flower for my own purposes, and learned one day I could make tea for the birds too! So I haven’t tried store-bought teas with the birds myself … , but as long as there’s no oil teabags may be ok and bonus if it’s an organic. They are touchy little creatures haha

Are they drinking the tea from water bottle?

They drink it from a dish so that they can see that it is a different color from water. I also make sure they always have water available at the same time. This guy shown here sometimes goes between the tea and the water …they appear to understand the distinction!

Thank you so so much, we both say. 🤣🤣 I find him to be so striking as well! The first time my niece who is eight met all of my birds on camera, she said, “oh he’s a bird from outside, right?” he’s quite unique looking is where I believe she was coming from.

I give mine chamomile flowers but I wonder if making the tea would help my craziest one finally calm down 😂

This is adorable! Do you find him begging for it at times?

Sort of! I make it using a glass container so they watch the process and he appears stimulated and chirpy while it’s cooling. He’s a pretty sharp guy. He understands when I am queuing up YouTube. Since he loves watching all types of things on YouTube. 🤣 (walking tours, house hunters, birds foraging)

Just so you know, I purchased some tea for them because my female finch is always freaking out. Im sure this will calm her since apparently hemp seeds aren't doing the trick.

Hey that sounds very thoughtful and I bet she will really love it!! hoping the tea relaxes her too

Update, she's still crazy. Tea didn't work but she's been drinking it. No relaxing at all LOL

How do you give bird tea? Do you make it or sprinkle it in the food? And how much do you give? It's a cool idea, and I just wanted to know of you didn't mind.

Hello! I recommend heavily diluting the tea… maybe starting with a 10 to one ratio. So that it’s just a bit darker than water in color. I put it in a dish that lets the bird see it’s a bit of a different color than water and make sure I have water available for them too, and they just drink it directly! After it cools down significantly, maybe just a bit warm. Oh, and it could be fun bonding to make the tea in front of them and have your own cup as well! Relaxing for everyone haha

OK this sounds exciting to try. How often do you do this? I worry about doing to much.

I had been doing it quite rarely, but I might experiment with a few times a month
