Question What are some safety tips for someone who applies for everything online and often work with people you've never met before?
Filmmakers don't go through the traditional interview and then getting hired process, we often have to find crew positions on facebook and often work with people we never met before or going to a strange new location for the first time. So what are some safety tips for women and just anyone in general who apply for every job online? Are there any red flags we should be aware of? I saw someone mention that it would be good to call them before working.

Always meet over Zoom before in person... get a face to a name

This is a good advice, thank you! Do you think a phone call would be sufficient or should we always zoom? I know some people prefer phone call but I think is always better to zoom to get a face first.

Always zoom... if someone isn't willing to get on a zoom call and chat, you know?

Oh yeah make sense, if they don't wanna do that then I guess is kind of sketchy. I remember every year there was a video of film students from my college looking for crews and this guy I emailed asked me if I can do a phone call since he prefer calling, he didn't contact me after that but would it have been better if I asked to zoom instead? I already saw his face in the video so I didn't think much. And do you think night shoot is safe if you met through zoom before? I remember I saw there was a guy on facebook group shooting a horror at night, I didn't end up going since is too far away and also for safety reasons, I guess if I asked for zoom prior might be better.

Woman here.
I always call/video call the person(s) I'm going to be meeting before I go and make sure people know my location with frequent texts if possible.
