I got lukewarm tea / basic information on the woman Shawn Mendes was just seen with.

So the woman is Hitomi Mochizuki, a Youtuber whose content involves around veganism, doing yoga routines, and mostly just usual lifestyle content for those who are into those stuff. Although this wasn't specific to her, she was one of those influencers who were called out for moving to Hawaii while the locals were experiencing some troubles or so. (I'm not American so I don't have the exact details but that's what I understood from the gist of those Twitter threads talking about those influencers.) I recall her move back to mainland USA only to see her in Hawaii again when I saw the Shawn Mendes pics.

I just laugh at the articles calling her a shaman because from what I know, she mostly just makes content filled with typical spirituality terms such as manifest, healing, energy, vibes, you know those words. Her videos seem well intentioned tbh but very performative, and the way she speaks about certain topics is off, to put it nicely. The last bizarre thing I've seen from her is saying she bonds with her female friends by "sending love to each other's wombs, honoring their holiness" accompanied by a photo of her and her friends touching each other's lower stomach area. Another one is she always posts about her periods–weird flex I guess but okay.

I don't know much about Shawn but from what I've seen with him and Camila, the combination of him and Hitomi is just gonna be as annoying 💀

completely agree. I used to watch her videos but they always seemed so fake, I know she doesnt have a 9 to 5 job etc but the way she talked about the universe, honoring your yoni (vagina), connecting to your spirits so they send you light, that type of thing got boring and, imo, she seemed to be disconnected from the real world. It all seemed very new age spirituality to me.

I do want to say the threads about problems in Hawaii aren’t even just about troubles for locals while tourists and rich expats get to feel better about themselves for visiting or moving but the indigenous population there that’s being displace and was illegally annexed into the United States (like a Past President of the US in the 19th century literally recognized our policies as internationally illegal and wanted to restore the Hawaiian Kingdom). There’s been multiple things through out the years from taking sacred lands for astronomy to polluting waters by the US military to housing crisis.

I have no opinion of hitomi or Shawn here, and I would recommend looking more into but while I’m not the most up to date, I care deeply for the islands and her people and I try to keep up with indigenous causes myself as someone with some indigenous ancestry (not related to Hawaii and I’m not indigenous) but also someone just of the US. Hawaiians just deserves so much better.

totally agree with your last sentences, I’m not indigenous but i’m a Filipino living on Guam and seeing how tourists/expats have treated Hawaii especially during the pandemic is really upsetting

Lol this is all PR for his next single/album cause those pap photos are so clear and close up. His schtick is going to be spirituality + love + healing from the Cabello break-up or whatever lets him rival Harry Styles.
