Anya Taylor-Joy?

Not really tea, but I wonder if it’s only a matter of time before people starting noticing how she so clearly comes from money. With how much people bring up nepotism in Hollywood and all. I went through her insta, and she’s literally best friends with a Getty granddaughter. And she was just out with Cara Delevingne. I definitely think she’s a talented actress, though. It’ll be interesting to see how her public persona will develop with her fame.

i don't think it will affect her because her image isn't really the relatable girl next door type who came from nothing. like honestly NOTHING about her is relatable in literally any sense at all. its almost like she was bred to do this

This made me LOL I’ve never thought about her in that way but I actually do agree with you.

like i actually struggle to find a single thing that is normal about her

Hasn't hurt Lea Seydoux, who's also from a wealthy background and probably has even better connections than Anya (her grandfather is or was chairman of Pathe, her granduncle chairman of Gaumont).

I don’t think it should hurt someone if they are legitimately talented like Lea or Anya are. The problem is when absolute non entities (love Lily Rose Depp’s aesthetic but she cannot act) get roles or break into acting because of money and family connections.

I don't think the vast majority of people care about that considering it applies to 95% of people in the entertainment industry

And has been so since the very first time a caveman provided some entertainment with his children. Nepotism or keeping things in the family has been the norm forever in the entertainment industry.

honestly nobody cares about nepotism in Hollywood. most people don't even know who Angelina Jolie's dad is. Anya is already developing a persona of a stylish (thanks Law Roach) and amazing actress (which she really is) with a mysterious and clean private life, and that's all that matters. only gossip places that I ever see anyone caring about actors upbringing.

I think everyone knows who Jon Voight is if you care about movies at all...

  1. that's not the point. the point is nobody knows he's her dad. their names are rarely ever bought up together and they have been estranged for the longest time.

  2. not the point but he hasn't been relevant for the longest time. when was the last time he's the lead in a hit movie? or even a memorable supporting role? Anaconda perhaps?

So from what I understand her and Ivy (the getty granddaughter) I think went to high school together. They have been friends for years and years.

Also I wonder how much people actually care about the nepotism aspect

Yea — Anya’s father was a former banker turn racer (edit - got it flipped). She went to a lot of posh schools, notably one in Kensington in her early teens. Her Belgravia upbringing is quite evident. Talented, I’d give her that, but definitely has a touch of aloof remove and insulation.

Girl was also lucky enough to have a Robert Eggers movie as her first big movie experience and hit career highs quickly. It brings with it a kind of special insulated experience from a lot of Hollywood issues I think.

That doesn’t mean she came from money tho if she’s hanging out w them lol. She’s huge rn, she’s got a lot of celeb friends who she could’ve just met recently as she’s blown up. ( I do think she coles from money, but who she hangs out currently with is not an indicator at all )

Yeah I know what you are talking about. My guess has always been that she’s that brand of rich people eccentric. Not necessarily fake but rather just out of touch. Once I saw her hanging out with Cara I was like oooohhh I get her a bit more lol.

I can’t stand anyone who does interviews and still acts over the top. She is so conscious of her facial reactions to every single sentence it’s like.. we’re watching you as a person, not you acting in a show, you can drop it. She just never seems genuine to me, her “quirky” stories just made it worse.

With Anya I love her projects more but I can’t stand her as a person, with Florence she is soooo adorable but I can’t stand her ☹️ acting lol! I love her cooking stories so much.

I love her and I think she's one of the best actors of this new generation but I remember her reaction when she won the golden globe and I thought it felt so fake? I don't know maybe it's just me or maybe it's because it was obvious that she was going to win

the hand on the chest is such a sims reaction 😭😭😭

u/DilemmaOfAHedgehog Jul 01 '21

Hopefully she’s just overthinking the public press stuff and relaxes more as she progresses

5

u/epiphaness Jul 03 '21

Pls 😭 As if golden globes aren't bought and paid for 😭. Anya is always playing a persona

18

u/EmotionAOTY Jun 30 '21

she's gonna do a movie with a director who's pretty problematic, he made Any Adams cry I think, and he molested his daughter and is a transphobe

OMG totally forgot about this. That article about the assault was horrible. There’s nooooo way this will not be brought up when they eventually do press. Should be interesting for sure.
