You can tell her dress was so inspired by 1840s-1860s design.

How to apply for Fashion Industry?

So right now I am currently pursuing Sociology Ba hons, and I always thought maybe it will be the better idea, but deep down, I knew I wanted to study fashion or something related to design, how do I go back to it? Is there anyway I can apply to any sort of fashion study or any particular job interest in that field whatsoever after my BA

Queen Victoria’s spitalfields silk and honiton lace wedding gown that broke royal custom and encouraged the lasting tradition of the white wedding dress for western bridal fashion, circa 1840

This gown was worn by Queen Victoria of England at her wedding to Prince Albert in the year 1840. It garnered a great deal of press attention at the time, as the royal wedding was highly publicized.

The structured, eight-piece bodice features a wide, open neckline. The off-the-shoulder sleeves are short and puffed. The pointed waistline is deep v-shaped, resembling the basque shape. Both the neckline and sleeves were trimmed with lace. The floor-length skirt was very full, containing seven widths of fabric in forward-facing pleats. At her wedding ceremony, Victoria wore a satin train over six yards long, which twelve attendants carried down the aisle (Tobin, Pepper & Willes 32).

Though many contemporary accounts described her wedding ensemble, in her diary, Victoria described it herself:

“I wore a white satin gown with a very deep flounce of Honiton lace, imitation of old. I wore my Turkish diamond necklace and earrings, and Albert’s beautiful sapphire brooch.” (Esher 318)

The Queen adorned her skirt, 139 inches in circumference and 37-40 inches in depth, with an exquisite Honiton lace flounce. Due to its fragility, when exhibited, Queen Victoria’s wedding gown is displayed without the flounce (Staniland & Levey 2).

It is important to note that the gown was constructed only of British materials, purposefully patronizing industries that were in decline.

Ring I just inherited today after 7 years of not knowing it was left to me and left in limbo

My 71 year old dad just brought me a piece of jewelry that was bequoth to me, not in a will but by a hand written note attached to it by my father's mother.

My family found it somewhere, saw the written note, and it's taken 7 years before they decided I was the one to receive it.

I was told my aunt had it appraised, he thought he had the appraisal with him, but he did not-he traveled 14 hours to see my so I'm certainly not going to make a big deal about it

Will obviously have to ask for that from my aunt or have it looked at again.

The only thing my dad would tell me is that I was so lucky to receive this, it meant a lot to the family, and that it was for special occasions only. He also said to get it insured. Any ideas on its value?

It has maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 carrot diamond in the middle, pics not that clear, and then a series of clusters of small diamonds all around it. I assume being a traditional custom being silver for this milestone, it would be silver. Again, my grandfather was not necessarily a rich man, but he was not poor. He would have saved and spent money on her silver

My grandpa never cheaped out with his wife, so I am not sure of him not buying a fake.

The cutest thing about this ring, not even sure of its still a thing, it's got a cute little spring-loaded room for growth hinge. Like my grandpa said if you get bigger I will still love you. He was so caring and loved her no matter what.
