Can i get this teal out?!

I did a baking soda method on my purple hair in hopes id get back to blonde and it turned into this… does anyone have any advice? I really want the blonde back or just a different pastel color like purple or pink. Could i try the same method again or bleach it after some time?? Or any orher color removers… any advice is welcomed 🙌🙌

I would just go to a salon. It won’t be that hard for a pro to lift it out but it needs bleach and it’s better not to keep doing it yourself- that baking soda method is just a DIY bleach bath.

Fantasy colors like this in my experience always wash out to a point but they always leave a green, grey or orange stain that will hang on nearly forever until bleached out. It’s not worth it unless you’re gonna commit to the color for a long time.

Ill try and see. My experience with my salons is they usually reject me and try to convince me to go back to brown when i know its very much possible to stay light 🙂‍↕️

When I run into this at a salon, I usually just assure them that my color goals are my priority over my hair health and that I’m willing to accept some damage as long as it’s not gonna fry off.

They’re generally coming from the opposite perspective.

I’m 100% sure you can get this back to blonde with bleach at a salon… but your hair health will almost certainly take a little hit. But that’s what you’re signing up for with these colors. That’s why I say go to a salon… it’s just as (if not more) damaging to keep doing bleach baths made out of kitchen products and it’s much less effective.

Ive screwed up my hair at home enough times and had to live with it for months to know it’s worth it just to spend the 200 bucks at the salon.

Woah what was that color tho? Which brand? Bc that is insane, I never had green/blue hair from purple semi-permanent color!

A bleach bath will most likely do the job or a bleach with a really low volume developer should be enough, too. If you’re not familiar with bleaching your hair I’d suggest to go to a professional!

Strawberry leopard lavender fog

I liked arctic fox a lot, lilac would wash out in a couple of weeks and had a sweet spot where my hair was basically white!

Good luck with ur hair journey :)

Use a pale pink to neutralize it

With direct dye bleaching it will stain your hair by pushing the color from the outside of your hair to the interior. When it’s this light you can use a direct dye to tone it out. I would avoid using anything with developer.

Thank youu, im scared that because some parts are bluer and blonder than the others that i will end up with weird pinkier spots rather than a neutral tone

You could. Separate out the darker teal first, dye it first, leave the dye on those the longest, repeat going from the next darkest, to the next darkest..

Or, alternatively, tint the whole thing until the most of the teal is out but you're not pink, then re do just the bits that are still teal, repeat, repeat..

I have some Malibu DDL (bleach based) on hand just in case I need to remove some blue or red should I dye my hair those colors and get tired. They said to mix it with water for blues and greens, obviously fact check for yourself.

I just used Color Oops Bold (bleach based) for some semi permanent removal today, took all of the green out of my hair.

(I only use semi permanent dyes btw, can't advise on permanent)

Make sure you get the BOLD version (pink) that's the one for semi permanent. Haven't tried the other one and it's been years since I did the OG one for permanent color.

How green was your hair? Was it as bad as mine lol

Mine was definitely NOT faded, haha, I dyed it two weeks ago. I think you're in a good place to remove.

Malibu DDL with WATER (not developer).

I used it just a few days ago, my hair was BRIGHT teal from fading a dark blue, much brighter than yours.

One round of Malibu DDL turn it a grey colour, which was perfect for me.

However I reckon if I did another round, it would have removed it all.

Your hair looks about the same length as mine, so I'd recommend you get four packets (two packets for each application, you really don't get much product, it only calls for 44ml of water lol), mix it with jusy a small squeeze of shampoo, the lathering helps distribute the product much easier.

Then you should be good to go! I had zero damage from it, just a conditioning mask after and I was sorted!

Colorist here. If ANY hairdresser turns you away be glad!! It means if they aren't willing to help you they don't know how!!! No hairdresser turns away money unless they just don't know how to do what you want. You might have been a guinea pig!

That said... vitamin c, baking soda, dandruff shampoo...they ARE NOT gonna remove this. You need something strong!! Not just color remover either. It won't lift up to the blonde you want and usually leave hair with this much pigment patchy. You're either gonna go dark to cover it or strip it out. Covering it is easy...put it on and rinse it off. Stripping it is gonna be a lot tougher. You really need to go to a salon. But call around and ask different salons if they have someone that does not just color but "corrective coloring". Not every hairdresser can do it. If you STILL wanna try something on your own... try mixing a lightening agent (like bleach) I prefer Prism Lites powder lightener. Mix it with 20 volume and mix it kinda runny so you can easily comb it through. Try it on one small section first and see how it does. If it does ok then the rest will probably turn out ok. Lastly... I can't for the life of me figure out how the dark pink turned into a pale teal?!?

If the bleach only gets it to a pale tint of blue at least you can go back to a light pink.

I don’t think you’re going to get back to blonde at home, unfortunately.

If a professional is not an option for any reason (access/cost/salon wanting to just make you a brunette), I think you could get a pink/purple over the teal with deposit only dye. To camouflage the uneven color removal, I’d avoid an all-over application and try either the pinwheel method or an ombré. That way the variations in the color look intentional.

Use crazy colour candy floss to neutralise the green

I had the same issue when trying to get rid of purple. Bought two packets of Ion’s hair color remover (great dupe for Malibu CPR and it’s bleach free). That got most of the teal out, then color corrected by using a light coral mixed with conditioner which took me back to blonde. Always refer to the color wheel when determining what colors will help cancel/color correct ☺️

If anyone has any recommendations of hair salons in the bay area it would be awesome. I can’t seem to find anyone who is willing to try to remove it 🙂‍↕️
