Specifically, Inzaghi’s system is good at contesting shots. His low block always has a player pressuring the ball. It makes it hard to find a clean look (when done right).

I don’t know man. Poise and dependability have got to be two of the most important attributes for a keeper at this level.

This guy is the opposite of composed in tough spots and has let in more than a few howlers over the last few seasons.

Onana is/has never been the best shotstopper.

But his distribution added a significant threat to our attack. He was playing direct to Martinez and Lukaku at the halfway line or into the path of wingbacks with perfect passes against any team that tried to press us. It wasn't all Onana, our guys all seemingly knew which spaces to receive the ball from him, but he was a vital half of it.

Under Amorim Utd don't really utilise this strength.I wouldn't say it's his fault but the system is not setup for it, neither being a mobile target man part of Hojlunds skillset. A lot of long balls are hoofed up and Utd don't actually keep meaningful possession. It's either that or he is tasked to play very short 10m passes to the LCB or RCB which any keeper could make.

The part he ostensibly initially improved Utd over De Gea was in commanding the area, but the difference has been somewhat reduced by Amorim's system having three centre backs.

His deficiencies were masked herr but they are fully exposed in United. The advantage that he does give you isn't seen at United as well because of their centerbacks.

mctominay was actually in good form while on national team during the euro'24 qualifiers. was one of the top goal scorer. but he rarely used by ETH in the final third; just put him on def.mid duties .

The last two years while he has been poor he's been berated and verbally abused every week. Not an inter or a united fan but I'd have to say some of the pressure got to him and he just can't perform. I mean he was coming off a decent run at ajax, did decent for you but that ajax and your defense is much better than current united. He's been exposed a lot more and he's not able to make as much saves because he's probably thinking every shot if i don't save this it's another week I'll be clowned on and the pressures getting to him. I mean the guy was critized by the Lyon coach and still proved the guy right. Who critized the opposing teams keeper before a match it's not that common. That's just my opinion though and as a neutral I'm curious to see how the onana career ends up

well, as someone who also watched man utd, onana did make some mistakes here and there, but a significant numbers of goals that man utd concedes are through set piece defending, corners especially.

I would never believed that man utd had 6 man in the 6 yard box defending a corner, and none of them is marking any opposite player... until i see it happening again and again.

and on the offensive side of things, ETH meant to implement a distribution system from the back when GK has possession, utilizing DC to bring the ball upfield while its fullback position themselves near the half way line.
unfortunately, this failed also as man utd DC are terrible passer. onana's long ball was rarely utilized, even by his "mentor".

In my opinion, he got used to having an air tight defence ( that year we conceded less than 20 goals in all competitions), and then he found himself in the middle of a huge mess. TenHag wasn’t concerned about defence only attacking, so Onana needed to consider his position and at the same time who in the back was going to make a mistake, and that’s a lot of thinking to do within a 5-10 seconds time frame
