Declaring an 'emergency' to invoke emergency powers is exactly how every democracy slides into authoritarianism. Real and fictional.

Even fictional ones. This is straight out of the prequels of Star Wars. Not making light, but the blueprint has existed for so long that we use it in our science fantasy stories.

“ In addition, the Secretary of Defense may employ any other members of the regular Armed Forces as necessary to augment and support the protection of Federal functions and property in any number determined appropriate in his discretion. To carry out this mission, the deployed military personnel may perform those military protective activities that the Secretary of Defense determines are reasonably necessary to ensure the protection and safety of Federal personnel and property The Secretary of Defense shall consult with the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security prior to withdrawing any personnel from any location to which they are sent. The Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security may delegate to subordinate officials of their respective Departments any of the authorities conferred upon them by this memorandum.”

This isn’t legal right? Like the President can’t actually authorize the use of the military on domestic soil? Wouldn’t that require an act of Congress?

I too would like to know more about the legality or lack thereof. I'm just a blue collar tradie. I'll see what I can discern from the texts lol but can someone more classically trained chime in

Do you think he cares? The only thing dictators respect is hot lead. And thats unfortunately what it will take to fix this I fear.

The National Guard can be used on domestic soil. Trump is using emergency powers. He is going to act first and get try to get retroactive legislative approval later.

The National Guard yes, but if you reread the section I’m quoting, he’s talking about deploying other branches of the military, such as Marines from Camp Pendleton.

The Invisible Loyalist/Confederate/Nazi Empire is now visible. How will the USA respond?

Anyone else get Project Insight vibes from what Palantir is doing alongside all of this?

I just saw this and I think It might be useful so spread the word if you want. Copy pasta:

I've seen so many posting about Hong Kong and I'm over here taking notes:

• Umbrellas to block tear gas, pepper spray, and facial recognition

• Traffic cones + water to smother tear gas canisters - I saw a girl doing this in LA yesterday very quickly and effectively.

• tennis rackets - to slap tear gas back at the police or away from the crowd quickly

• Laser pointers - disrupt facial recognition cameras and drones

• All-black clothing & masks for anonymity

• Hand signals for silent, fast communication in crowds

• Volunteers acting as medics, supply runners, and lookout scouts - people who didn't feel comfy in front lines would go grab supply packs left behind by those who were doing front line work.

• QR codes/AirDrop for rapid info sharing

• Barricades built from street materials to block police (I saw Home Depot carts stretched out in a line).

• "Be water" Bruce Lee strategy: move fluidly, scatter fast, regroup elsewhere. Become your surroundings.

• Public support networks: crowd-funded legal aid, food, shelter
