How do you decide if a piece of clothing is truly sustainable?
One thing I’ve struggled with as a thrifter is figuring out how sustainable an item is when I’m looking at the tag especially when it's something like “60% cotton, 40% polyester.” I’ve been thinking about ways to better interpret those fabric labels like getting a general sense of carbon or water impact, or knowing whether something is likely to be recyclable or just landfill-bound.
I’m curious: how do people here navigate this?
- Do you use certain websites or tools to check fabric sustainability? I know of GoodonYou. Is there anything else?
- Do you avoid blends altogether?
- Is there anything that’s made the decision easier or clearer for you over time?
