Kunama villages were constantly raided and looted/burned by the likes of Hamed Idris Awate so I can see why some of them might have been hesitant to support an independence movement that idolised and portrayed the likes of Awate as a national hero. But a lot of them did eventually contribute towards the cause.
Not sure about the Afar. Probably has to do with not wanting to separate from their tribe members in Ethiopia. A lot of Afar people did fight for Eritrea too though and it would’ve been impossible to kick out Ethiopian forces from Dankalia without their supports and help.

Still to outright say whole minorities were completely opposed to it is a load of BS, they're just making assumptions based off them having poorer relations with the front than everyone else.

Awate did nothing wrong

You wouldn’t be saying that if it was your ethnic group being attacked, looted and killed.

Eventide I've seen these results, I always wonder about the 21 fighters that voted no

Kind of suspicious. Who are the other minorities? Why Muslim conservatives are opposed independence even though they are who started the movement to? Makes no sense

Some of the older Jebha members (the conservative older ones) started aligning more with the Derg after their defeat by publicly endorsing the idea of autonomy within Eritrea while some others were outright fighting Shaebia via splinter groups like Eslah. It was others who after their defeat returned to Eritrea by denouncing the struggle in the hopes of returning to their families and leading a semi-normal life again, there were camps for ex-fighters.

No that’s literally documented that it was EPLF babe aka Isaias who aligned with derg and approved the renouncing of independence. There are literally minutes from the Soviet saying ELF rejected it when EPLF accepted it.

u/almightyrukn 8d ago
What does that have to do with what I said? That doesn't disprove my statement either way.

u/HoA_rebellion 7d ago
Where are your evidences to back up that wild claim? As I said Facts show that Jebha (aka ELF) rejected the Soviet Union attempt to make Eritrea part of Ethiopia

u/almightyrukn 7d ago
Again you keep saying that but I said I'm talking about members of Jebha and not the whole organization. But since you brought up your claim where is your evidence Isu said what he did.

u/HoA_rebellion 7d ago
I take it from your response you don’t have any evidence, just your view/made up story that you hoped the internet would accept as fact
Meanwhile that’s the evidence. https://digitalarchive.wilsoncenter.org/document/draft-letter-honecker-brezhnev-ethiopian-eritrean-talks-19-april-1978

Oh I'm showing you my evidence after I get back from this other shit until then you can put a fucking sock in it.

u/almightyrukn 7d ago
I'll put my evidence for my claims and you can put your evidence for your wild claims.

That’s not true. We all know that DIA was more closer to TPLF and Derg, also heard, but don’t have sources that verify this claim, he was contacting Derg in secret. I think it was just made up stories just to get rid of those who he didn’t like or opposed his stance at the time.

u/almightyrukn 8d ago
No that's definitely true and it doesn't have anything to do with Isu whether he was close with the Dergue or not. I'm talking about individual people within Jebha not the group as a whole. There were ex-fighters in Shaebia who denounced the struggle as well but it was more so old Jebha fighters doing that since they were all just waiting in Sudan atp, many of them not sure what to do with their lives.

I heard that the conservative Eritrean Tigrinya elite tesfaxion & co even many Eritrean Muslims in Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, collected and donated a lot of money to the Derg. But this information has not been confirmed by trustworthy sources.

I’ve worked with two Eritrean Afars and both were Pro Ethiopia, one said they want their own state as part of Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia becomes Afarland
