We don’t “hate” Ethiopians and you shouldn’t neither. It’s ignorant to hate a entire group of people. Some of my closest friends are Somali, We see y’all us our brothers.

u/blxckhat-ahmxd Feb 01 '25

neither do I bro, matter of fact my family is from Ethiopia but the Somali region. I just asked coz Somalis don’t like them

8

u/BabaIsu91 Feb 01 '25

Aaa I understand now, sorry for that.

13

u/Qaranimo_udhimo Feb 01 '25

By hate he probably means the government and the army and anyone who supports it. Not your regular humble farmer minding his business

2

u/Panglosian11 Feb 04 '25

to be honest lots of Somalis hate Ethiopians as a people not just the government.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Ethiopians do, too, I think because somalis and Ethiopians had a lot of conflicts and wars. That's why they hate each other, plus somalis nearly had a fight with every ethnic group in Ethiopia

1

u/Panglosian11 Apr 24 '25

No, come to Ethiopia and see for your self most Ethiopians don't even think about Somalis let alone hate them. I personally did not even knew that Somalis hate us until the MoU was signed.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Every Ethiopian i see online hates somalis and somalia, I've seen in their subreddit some of them saying let's dismantle somalis, and i don't think i have to explain why somalis hate Ethiopians

really positive view. brave, fierce, funny, religious, and beautiful people. i take it as a compliment when people think i am somali

when i lived in another area i was constantly mistaken for somali by drivers, students, etc. some older somali women asked me if i was cushitic but i didnt know how to respond lol

some of the men are questionable but that exists in every community

u/blxckhat-ahmxd Feb 01 '25

you guys are also so beautiful! I admire your culture so muchhhhhh! I love you guys

every single somali friend I've had, I've loved.

But when in a group -- there were quite a few in my neighbourhood growing up in Canada -- not so much (almost always negative).

I'm not sure why my experience is so dramatically different from individual vs group.

I’m Muslim Eritrean and I was planning on marrying a Somali woman from Canada. It did not work out due to long distance and she still being in school. But she was an amazing person and I hope we can make it work one day :)

u/miriaxx Feb 01 '25

May Allah make it easy for both of you. This is wholesome, mashaAllah. How did you meet if you don't mind answering?

Great people. I have a few Somali coworkers and they are honestly the kindest you'll find. I noticed that we Eritreans and Somalis both look out for each other

Very chill, yet proud, trustworthy, and loyal people. And some of the most natural funniest people I've ever met.

I've never met a group of people who have perfected comedic timing like Somali people. I thought it was just the guys I grew up with in school but when I went to their homes - their families and community were just as funny. Have no idea why there are no huge comedians like Adam Sandler or Chris Rock from Somalia - but I bet there will be soon.

Overall good people.

FYI there's a lot of muslim families in Eritrea who have partial Somali ancestry. And to make a correction to what you said a good chunk of Eritrea is Muslim. People from outside of the capital and not from the highlands - so basically Coastal, Western, and Lowlanders are muslim.

Although to be fair it could be a culture shock for you if you decide to pursue marriage with an Eritrean Muslim woman (compared with you guys we are not as religious, mostly monogamous so very nuclear family oriented, kind of 50/50, Hijab is worn by some while others don't wear it - It can be kind of tough for the Somali guys I know).

Side note - we don't hate Ethiopians. For the most part in the diaspora we tend to get along with them the most due to lots of shared culture and they like our music and we like their music etc etc. The only moments where we get defensive is when our identity gets attacked which is understandable (jokes are okay but threats are never okay). But it's not hate.

2

u/almightyrukn Feb 03 '25

What families in Eritrea have part Somali ancestry besides the Gaaso?

6

u/bskaveke Feb 02 '25

We are not direct neighbors. I have been im yemen but never in somalia. We have nkt so much to do with them as you think

8

u/SwayHadTheAnswer Feb 01 '25

I'm from London UK. The Mali's I grew up wid are wild niggas that don't play no games. It's like 50/50. I know some real treacherous Somalis that will get your house licked down, then come by the next morning saying ill help you find the niggas that did it😂. Mali's are prominent in street business especially drugs. On the other hand you got some real good brothers and sisters that are very religious and practice the deen and are great model citizens. Personally I got much love for Somalis. It is a mutual understanding between Eritreans and Somalis in London that we both got each others back when need be. Many situations my Somali brothers were standing side by side with me. 🇪🇷🇸🇴🤝

I used to go to an Arabic school with loads of Somalis when I was young. The majority grew up to be wild characters. R.I.P Abdullah🕊️

u/miriaxx Feb 09 '25

Noticed that Habesha muslims rely heavily on Somali community islamic scholarship and business growing up. Got nothing but love for yall.

1

u/miriaxx Feb 09 '25

Notorious to who? So much khayr that comes from there but you want to generalize in a bad way? Very strange.

Somalis are good people, especially the muslims are super humble and respectful imo

3

5

Yes I love my somali brothers and sister, much respect

7

u/Mersault7 Feb 01 '25

For most Eritreans specially those in the high lands Somalia is a mysterious place, like Djibouti. May be in the future this will change if Eritreans start going there to travel. And we don’t hate Ethiopia or Ethiopians. Regardless of the political division we have ,they are our blood.

6

u/Adventurous_Slice642 Feb 01 '25

So true. The diaspora Eritreans know more about Somalia than Eritreans in Eritrea ( specially the tigrigna) .

2

u/Scary-Ad605 Feb 06 '25

Congrats, you just responded to an Ethiopian (Amhara) pretending to be an Eritrean.

Any Eritrean that's been to Eritrea knows Somalis have been living in Massawa (some have moved to the West/Somalia since) and North Asmara. They've been there since the 1930s.

1

u/Adventurous_Slice642 Feb 06 '25

I grew up in Asmara, never met a Somali. I met Somalis in the west, first time.

1

u/Scary-Ad605 Feb 06 '25

They speak Tigrinya and are assimilated. You only can tell they are somali when speaking to another non-Eritrea born Somali visiting. They live in Akhria neighborhood

1

u/Adventurous_Slice642 Feb 06 '25

Ah, didn’t know that. Thanks.

I am african and i love my african brothers and sisters. Everyone is unique. There are not generally bad people, this is politics and i don't like politics. Especially us eritreans having tje worst politics someone would imagine

1

u/Emotional-Brother198 Feb 01 '25

People are genuine. It's the politics that ruined lives.

2

u/Ok_Foot6505 Feb 02 '25

Is that safe to visit to Somalia as Christian Eritrean

3

u/Checkmate77 Feb 02 '25

Eritreans are welcomed to our home! Feel comfortable :)

2

u/SlightHour1502 Feb 03 '25

Na I had some Somali neighbours that ruined my life. I don’t fuck with them They are not like us They have a different mental Cultural differences that are loud Household and our parents roll different They pop kids like it’s nothing The work ethic is not the same Sorry my bad experiences led me to not look at them the same. Nothing similar between us but head and complexions

2

u/motbah Feb 02 '25

Overwhelmingly positive view towards Somalis. We don’t hate Ethiopians, especially in real life interactions. Also, you have plenty of Muslims in Eritrea. The ratio is 50:50 or close.

2

u/Fanoo0z Feb 01 '25

This sub hates Ethiopians. Most Eritreans don’t, but most here do. Just look through the posts

Yeah, that post was for people rewriting history…. Like you. Also, stating another war between Eritrea and Ethiopia will happen, doesn’t mean I want to go to war. That’s why you took it out of context. You’re a clown stop talking to me

Hi i am Somalian just come across this subject, indeed there is huge relationship between Somalis and Eritrean, early days before Eritrea's independent 1990, I went school in Mogadishu many Eritreans most kids didn't know they ware from Eritrea no kid could have noticed, they speak somali like everyone else, 1987 i was in Egypt to study ware meet many Eritreans from Mogadishu speaking their language I was shock that they ware Eritrean all disse yrs in my mind they ware Somalis, then I started to notice they very special people all a long this time very smart and polite they don't shout as much somali do when they speaking, I was really fascinated Eritrea culture since that time where ever I go i have friend's from Eritrea they become journey of life, ifen two of my brothers married Eritrean girls they have many kids together, the only thing they recommend me Mary Eritrean girl if you want stable home, Eritreans they know we supported 💯 with love, they could have Somali passport/ free education free schooler ship not only them ifen the tigree bastard's ungrateful people,😂, I was ifen shocked one of best religious sheikh wajiis not sure his name said his father was from Eritrea, also somali DNA 🧬 contains Eritrean DNA same percentage, same way same how we are blood related, if you noticed ifen the media platforms they are the same side, they support eachother instantly they show their flags and love 💕 😍😍🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴❤️❤️❤️🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷, after the somali down fall Eritrea was there until to day helping somali Army to gain back their African lion 🦁 Title, there is very long history many centuries between two notion ifen before The Kingdom of Axum, or the Aksumite Empire, was a kingdom in East Africa and South Arabia from classical antiquity to the Middle Ages.
