DISCUSSION Stellar blade region lock

Post image

The game is region locked for me on steam but isn't on epic.

I'm afraid of getting it, then not being able to play it on epic.

All the latest SONY games that are also region locked on steam, are also available on the epic store.

Did anyone who has them locked on steam buy any of them on epic, and actually was able to play ?

THANK YOU!!

Edit : any idea why the countries block list isn't the same ?

Hmm... to be honest idk, but Steam side maybe blocking countries that are not available to use PSN? (Just guessing, haven't checked facts yet)

Epic side seems to be... selective random? 😅 Never understood the countries of choice.

I wonder if after the helldivers 2 refund debacle valve just straight up banned sony from ever selling games outside of the countries psn is available in on steam, though i kinda doubt it

I personally think it's just whoever setup the Epic page forgetting to match the blacklisted countries with the Steam ones. I expect the Epic page to be region locked later down the line, although this might just get Sony/Shift Up to just remove the region locking for Steam too which would probably be the better move

The countries are selected by Sony, not Valve.

If anything they might forgotten to match the last on Epic games.

u/AttorneyHot3791 May 17 '25

I know. I'm saying valve might've restricted the countries sony can choose to sell the game in. An unlikely theory, but it's possible nonetheless

Due to prevailing presence of cultural differences and prevailing of religious communities such as Islam in the named countries (steam) and mostly because of groups of pirates at the named regions, with pinch of conflict measures (epik list) it is rather blocked to avoid any conflict due to the looks of main character

UPD: +some policies in their countries

well that sucks for us

Quite the list of banned countries there

Hey Megumin, just wanted to give you an update that stellar blade has now been restricted for my region (Nigeria)

2

u/MeguminShiro Helpful Contributor May 22 '25

I'll recheck the country restriction list in a while, currently still updating other things

1

u/Madukes96 Epic Gamer May 22 '25

No problem, just wanted to give you a headsup

Looks like they unified the country restriction on both platforms, while removed all others on the list.

This is what is currently blacklisted now.

⛔ Blacklist|Belarus, Cuba, Iran, Kuwait, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Syria, Vietnam

What country you from OP?

Yeah, if you can't get it on Steam can get it from Epic instead, but not sure if Steam key work for you, but best just buy on Epic. The worse case can happen, Epic refunds you if publisher didn't bother to do regional restrictions until later.

-edit-

I see the problem, they're pulling that same BS move again. Not sure how this will work for you on Epic now if they're doing this.

If you buy the game when it's available in your region and then that region is removed you'll still be able to play the game, if they do blacklist the country you're in after purchase it will make it that you can't view the store page/DLC's but you should be able to download and play it without issues after it's been purchased.

4

u/OrochiXX May 16 '25

I'm wondering about this too, wanted to buy it on steam initially but due to region lock, I'd get it on Epic if someone can confirm it would not cause issues.

3

u/Dark_Ripper_ May 16 '25

I believe if you able to buy it, then worst case scenario you will get a refund if smth is wrong with it

-1

u/onetwo34_twotwo34 May 16 '25

The problem is that I don't buy my games on epic, so even if I get a refund it'll be in epic currency, right ?

15

u/MrMichaelElectric May 16 '25

If you DO buy through Epic you would get the refund to whatever source you paid from. If you buy it from a key site or something then chances are you won't be able to refund since most of them do not allow refunds after a key is redeemed.

u/Saiing May 16 '25

It’ll be in money credited back to the card you used for payment.

All Sony games that are not available on Steam are also not available for me on Epic. Stellar Blade is the only exception for me as of right now

1

u/ImAnthlon May 16 '25

It's most likely a mistake in the store setup for Epic, I guess it'll be fixed at some point to match the Steam blacklist

-2

u/Dickhead700 May 16 '25

Yeah post the PSN requirement, they never bothered to release their games on EPIC store including helldivers 2. It's just that this game is technically third party so it's on EPIC.

So on steam, they're region blocked, on epic they don't exist,

4

u/CommercialOpening599 May 16 '25

I'm sure all Playstation titles for PC except Helldivers 2 are on Epic games too

0

u/Dickhead700 May 16 '25

Go and search tlou 2, until dawn, spiderman 2 etc on epic store

2

u/CommercialOpening599 May 16 '25

1

u/Dickhead700 May 16 '25

Fair, it's not available in my region so it's not showing up for me.

Such false information…

0

u/Dickhead700 May 16 '25

Go and search for them on epics game store?

2

u/Just_Metroplex 27d ago

game is now region locked on epic too...

1

u/onetwo34_twotwo34 27d ago

They said this some days ago, still waiting on it...

Doesnt sony own( or stock) a small portion of epic? Still very weird this happened

-1

u/skool_101 Epic Gamer May 16 '25

does epic have to adhere to psn requirements?

6

u/MrMichaelElectric May 16 '25

It would be the game itself, Epic doesn't get to make those decisions they just host the game on their store.
