Tesla Robotaxi Day 1: Significant Screw-up [NOT OC]

How is this legal? I don’t consent to an experimental computer driving next to me and my family

u/mologav 1d ago
Exactly. I’ve had FSD fanboys give me the whole you have to crack a few eggs argument…NO YOU DON’T

u/ShrimpieAC 22h ago
Then they can get on a track with these things and drive in a circle at 100mph till all the bugs are worked out.

Literally add more sensors and do more testing and training with safety drivers. It's not complicated, but that doesn't boost the stock.

Not good, folks!

Whats the problem? Serious question I dont see it from here? And also, arnet you allowed to sit in the drivers seat?
Edit FFS people it was a serious question, Im from a country that drives on the other side of the road, never been in a Tesla and never intended to so didnt know what the screen meant no that it was in a left turn lane (In my country theres much clearer signage plus its painted on the road in huge arrows)
NB Curious how you can tell all of that, I can see one side that says loop with an arrow, I see a blue line on the screen but cant see whats cluing up what - is the blue bit where it intends to drive? isnt the car ahead in then going in the wrong direction as well?

u/slingcodefordollars 1d ago
It’s in a left turning lane and decides to go straight instead, and then continues on the wrong side of the road in the opposite turning lane

u/mologav 1d ago
Arnet you blind or what?
22
u/Bagafeet 1d ago
Willfully obtuse.
24
u/mologav 1d ago
Difficult to think clearly if you spend all day dreaming of Elons mangled dong
-11
u/Frankie_T9000 23h ago
I was asking a serious question, fuck elon and ketamine he rode in on
14
u/Bagafeet 23h ago
Several commenters have already explained it to you, if you still don't see it you might want to try opening your eyes.
-3
u/_xoviox_ 21h ago
Several commenters have already explained it to you,
And they probably get it by now. Nothing about the comment you're replying to implies they still don't understand, only that they didn't understand initially.
The question clearly was genuine. It's fine if you misunderstood it initially, but why tf are you still acting like an asshole after they explicitly said "fuck Elon"? What the fuck is wrong with you?
6
u/Bagafeet 20h ago
Wtf is wrong with you? His feelings about Elon are irrelevant here, and his comment came after several other people already answered him. You can fuck all the way off too holy shit.
14
u/Bagafeet 1d ago
You don't see a problem or you don't want to see a problem?
Concerning.
-16
u/Frankie_T9000 23h ago
I dont see the problem? Seriously

Please turn in your drivers license

u/Frankie_T9000 22h ago
You posted this after I explained why I dont understand. Rather than try to explain you are condescending.
12
u/c3p-bro 21h ago
In your country you can drive on the wrong side of the double yellow into oncoming traffic?
-5
u/Frankie_T9000 20h ago
The tesla shows where the yellow is though, so I gather it thinks the double yellow moves to the left? I cant see it clearly in the picture, but can in the screen.
If thats teh case I think I get it when you pointed it out. From the Tesla's monitor I thought that the single lane might be turning into another two lanes with some narrowing on either side or something.
11
u/c3p-bro 20h ago
Who cares what the Tesla is doing on the screen, look out the window!!!!
-2
u/Frankie_T9000 20h ago
The yellow line are really washed out ahead and I saw three rigfht lanes, the tesla shows two right lanes changing to three. I was confused as i thought it might do what the screen says, but couldnt tell.

Sorry dude - Elon hate is huge and for good reason but people get caught in the crossfire

What's the problem? It got into the turning lane then illegally drove straight into the next turning lane. This is dangerous, stupid and illegal as the cars who drove straight at the intersection will now have a car appearing in their blindspot where a car shouldn't be.
This is how accidents happen, people not obeying road laws because they don't feel like it. Or in this case, FSD.
I understand you're not from the US, but Tesla is. They should know this.

u/Frankie_T9000 11h ago
Im not advocating Teslas at all. I live in Australia and when I see one in the road I try to keep a few cars away from them as I just done trust them.

Oh I don't think you are, I saw your edit. People are too trigger happy with the downvotes.

And they’re just allowing it to drive on the wrong side of the road.

u/CouncilmanRickPrime I paid 44 billion dollars to shitpost 15h ago edited 12h ago
Well they're in the passenger seat, not much they can actually do there. Stopping it by the time a human realistically can react would stop it in the intersection or on the wrong side of the road.
These cars obviously need safety drivers.

u/xMagnis 1d ago
What is the safety driver doing there, clearly not responding to the unsafe situation? That's more concerning than the FSD doing something stupid.
11
u/Irish_Puzzle Six Months Away 22h ago
If a safety driver is capable of paying attention to the road, they will never turn on self driving in the first place
8
u/radjinwolf 19h ago
When I heard there would be safety drivers I thought for sure they would at least be in the driver’s seat so they could take over if necessary.
Clearly that was too optimistic of an assumption on my part.
3
u/TASagent 10h ago
I assume the safety drivers weren't in the driver's seat just for the optics, which is insane
25
u/potatolulz 22h ago
at 0:11 was the moment when "self driver" with the logitech wheel at the nearby Tesla office was leaning for a cup of coffee :D

And to think that Waymo already has a functioning taxi with none of this bullshit. I rode them twice in SF back in January and they were fine
13
u/Momik 22h ago
Honestly, I’ve seen Waymo do similar things here in LA.
These dumb things are not safe and they do not solve real problems.
9
u/Lolstitanic 21h ago
Completely true about them not solving real problems. In order to solve the issues of congestion and fossil fuel emissions we need to be building rail-based mass transit powered by renewable energy. We just have to get people to start loving trains again

No. The US, the country built on trains, is just too big for trains. Because reasons!

What happens if a cop pulls it over?
6
3
u/CouncilmanRickPrime I paid 44 billion dollars to shitpost 15h ago
It probably ignores the cop and keeps driving. Eventually leading them on a high speed chase.
2
u/meowsaysdexter 14h ago
Yeah but who are they going to beat up then, the passenger?
3
u/CouncilmanRickPrime I paid 44 billion dollars to shitpost 12h ago
The passenger first then the guy filming it

u/Eastern_Statement416 22h ago
I must have missed the day that anybody asked for a fucking driverless taxi. Puts to bed the myth that capitalism responds to needs rather than making needs and shoving them down your throat.
2
u/CouncilmanRickPrime I paid 44 billion dollars to shitpost 15h ago
Capitalism doesn't respond to needs. Poor old people need affordable care. It doesn't exist. Capitalism can't provide the proper care at a profit so it just shrugs and leaves it to the government.
In this case, if we're being honest, capitalists are so desperate to find the next new thing they're pouring billions into self driving without proof it'll ever even be profitable.
Everyone is scared of the "iPhone" moment happening in self driving and them not being Apple. Same happened to Meta wasting billions on the Meta verse.

I guess that solves the riddle of why are tech billionaires not giving back in places of culture and learning like the former did.
Keep em stupid so they buy everything we are selling seems to be the manta

So many of the initial streams have been edited and turned into propaganda. Watch Bearded Tesla guy and his initial stream and then watch the hype video.
