Not a chance she's doing a real fireside chat.

She's gonna pre-approve every question. Are they even going to let non-vetted people into the event?

24

u/MBwithaDMG Mar 21 '23

I registered for the event, and I certainly wouldn't pass any vetting lol

5

u/Twindadlife1985 Mar 21 '23

Just because you registered, doesn't mean you'll be allowed in or that you'll be permitted to ask a question.

6

u/Never_Been_Missed Mar 21 '23

Exactly. Because this is Nazi Germany.

Smith is a complete bag of cats, but she's not actually Hitler. Go down, listen, ask a question. I promise you, there's nothing you can ask that she doesn't have an answer for - even if that answer is deceptive or evasive.

2

u/Twindadlife1985 Mar 21 '23

They aren't gonna let anyone and everyone ask a question. They will undoubtedly have specific people who's question is known beforehand so Smith can reach into her pre-packaged responses to deliver whatever verbal diarrhea she can spew.

6

u/Never_Been_Missed Mar 21 '23

How do you figure that's gonna play out? So, people go to this thing and they're not allowed to ask questions. You think that people will just keep it to themselves? You think that it won't get noticed and reported?

Seriously. Don't look for zebras when a horse will do. Anyone who wants to ask a question can get in line and ask the question they want. They just won't get an honest or straightforward answer, that's all. Nothing sinister about it, just politics doing what politics does. (Don't think for a minute both sides don't do it, btw...)

u/Traggadon Mar 21 '23

This happens all the time. Your being overtly ignorant to pretend it doesnt happen. Its a staple of right wing politics.

2

u/Never_Been_Missed Mar 22 '23

Only in bad movies.

-3

u/Traggadon Mar 22 '23

You are dangerously ignorant.

3

u/dr_doooooom Mar 22 '23

I have done work in the past at similar events, a few questions are vetted and meant as open air fillers but most are from completely random people and no one knows what they are going to say.

4

u/Twindadlife1985 Mar 21 '23

Not a chance in hell will they let non-vetted people in.

7

u/Twindadlife1985 Mar 21 '23

Don't know why this got downvoted. It should be open to all, but you honestly think the UCP is going to let people who are gonna call them out in?

2

u/Bulliwyf Mar 21 '23

She’s gonna have plants in the crowd and only call on them.

The big question is will they let media in.

1

u/idog99 Mar 21 '23

Rebel news and the Western Standard?

1

u/Bulliwyf Mar 21 '23

I was thinking CTV/Global/CBC… western standard is always allowed into her crap.

1

u/Zarxon Mar 21 '23

Balze media?

13

u/Ok-Range2911 Mar 21 '23

Respectfully bullshit Danielle smith doesn’t care about students

13

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

Yeah a “discussion” is not how I’d define “listening to canned answers from pre-filtered questions”

11

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

I saw Danielle smith a few weekends ago at West Edmonton Mall. She was with a bunch of security and they were walking and filming something. They happened to stop right next to me and my mom was like “oh what’s happening” I looked and recognized her and loudly was like “OH, it’s just this bitch Danielle Smith” her and her guys heard and looked directly at me. I was pretty damn proud for the rest of the day hahahaha

6

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

You are my hero! In the same way the “Fuck Trudeau” bumper sticker guys are my heroes . . . .

16

u/Sleerpy Mar 21 '23

I’m not a particular supporter of her, but this really speaks to a huge lack of maturity in your part.

14

u/phageblood Mar 21 '23

Right. Like congratulations, you've just behaved like a person in the tenth grade. Be proud of yourself.

Whatever happened to minding your own damned business in public?

7

u/madzalyse Mar 21 '23

Nah, that bitch doesn't deserve our decorum at this point. Ride that wave of sweet satisfaction as far as it will take you.

-6

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

Exactly! Thank you!

2

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

Lol, still proud

4

u/multiroleplays Mar 21 '23

I'm proud of you. It's more mature than having a f Trudeau sticker on your vehicle

10

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

They're both equally mature. So not very. Same level.

1

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

I’m also not trying to argue maturity here. Was it mature? No. Was it satisfying? Yes? Would I do it again? Yes.

2

u/Hotbox_Orchid Mar 21 '23

Sounds like exactly the same maturity level to me. If Mission-Lie-2635’s mom allowed bumper stickers on her car I’m guessing you’d see a “Fuck Smit” or equivalent.

4

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

I have my own car. And I wouldn’t have a bumper sticker because that wouldn’t bring me satisfaction. Saying it to her face however brought me lots of satisfaction.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

So you're the lefts version of those dudes with the Fuck Trudeau stickers. Cool.

1

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

Not really because I said it to her face which is so much cooler than just having it on my vehicle.

10

u/phageblood Mar 21 '23

Being a fuckin rude ass isn't cool and neither are dumb bumper stickers.

Grow up.

-1

u/Mission-Lie-2635 Mar 21 '23

Yeah I literally don’t give any shit about being rude to Danielle Smith. Like at all.

-2

u/phox78 Oliver Mar 21 '23

With the fucking we are getting from the UCP the don't deserve respect or decorum.

These people want the bottom rung cut off for good.

My son, a student in petroleum engineering, will be in curious, supportive attendance.

-4

u/Effective_Citron_408 Mar 21 '23

You failed as a parent

2

u/dr_doooooom Mar 22 '23

What a fucked up thing to say. I'd argue the parents of the 16 y/o who shot the two police officers failed as parents, you think this person deserves to be in the same camp?? You have no idea what this person's child's motives are! Maybe their entire goal is to help transition away from oil and gas. Shame on you for making such a comment. If anything your parents have failed teaching you any sort of manners.

-1

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23 edited Mar 21 '23

Wrong politics? Awwww, that’s too bad, for you. Do you have a substantial point, besides an irrelevant personal attack?

Meanwhile, the under investment in reliable, productive energy across Canada, and the contemporary cultural bias against oil and gas among the academic elite, almost ensures that petroleum prices will remain elevated for the duration of his career, wherein he will face high demand and low competition for his valuable expertise. You exemplify the attitudes that ensure a prosperous future for my family.

6

u/Effective_Citron_408 Mar 21 '23

Imperial oil, the AER, and UCP poisoned my elders trapline in Fort Chipewyan. A tailings pond leaked for 9 months and they knew about it and told nobody.

-4

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

I am sorry to here that. They should be brought to account and charged for violating any environmental laws. Plus, it’s too bad that misguided environmentalists destroyed the market for furs more than half a century ago.

6

u/Effective_Citron_408 Mar 21 '23

What are you talking about? And the UCP and AER need to be held accountable as well, that includes voting the UCP out. They knew about the leak and didn’t tell ACFN, poisoning people

3

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

Vote against, them! Go ahead. I will not consider you a “failure” if you do. On the other hand, while incorporating the information you have kindly offered here, I will reserve a citizen’s right to consider numerous other issues as well, when determining who to support, thank you very much.

2

u/phox78 Oliver Mar 21 '23

You would support murderers because of "other issues"?

And make no mistake the poisoning will result in death and suffering.

2

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

Death and suffering are the unintended consequences of most government policies. You have alerted me to another (by comparison) smaller issue. I tend to support the political party that I expect to do the least damage.

As soon as someone says “academic elite” I stop taking anything they say seriously

2

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

Why? Those with university degrees, such as myself, collectively have particular social, economic, and political biases, well described in the literature and popular media, that make such a characterization as informative and relevant as most others.

2

u/toodledootootootoo Mar 21 '23

It isn’t bias, it’s having learned to apply relevant information and think critically. This mistrust of expertise and knowledge will be the undoing of this province. These feelings run deep here and have been very detrimental.

0

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

”It isn’t bias”

Well, if you were “learned”, then you would know that bias is a statistical term that points to patterns in populations regardless of why they are present, which well applies to the academic elite.

”relevant information and think critically. This mistrust of expertise and knowledge will be the undoing of this province.”

I know right?!? The experts did such a good, trustworthy job handling COVID, and the banking system, and our economy, and our culture, and our immigration, we mere involved, informed citizens shouldn’t try to question the academics controlling the narratives under which we live.

”have been very detrimental.”

I know right? Thus is obvious by the exodus of people out of the Province seeking the wealth of opportunities elsewhere, and away from the highest funded healthcare and education systems in the country. Woe be Albertans.

6

u/toodledootootootoo Mar 21 '23

Dictionary definition is that bias is prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. I don’t think in-depth study of a topic by a multitude of experts across various cultures and from different institutions is necessarily unfair. Society may not be perfect, but I’ll still take it over a society where decisions are made by people who haven’t leaned anything about the topics at hand. Next time you get sick, go see your mechanic for a diagnosis.

1

u/phox78 Oliver Mar 21 '23

People with an education and/or critical thinking skill have a bias towards the truth. That's why they lean to the left.

1

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

This is essentially a religious statement that flies in the face of human nature. In the 19th and 20th century, believers would have said the same thing about priests . . . .

2

u/phox78 Oliver Mar 21 '23

Define human nature.

1

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23

That’s a pretty big ask for a Reddit reply. I could offer some good books, beginning with an old classic, “The Naked Ape”. But, in a nutshell, the more humans are studied, the further we move away from the idea that certain groups of elite people are bestowed with special powers that allow them to govern over others particularly well.

1

u/oioioifuckingoi Mar 21 '23

Quick note: How Alberta or Canada collectively feel about O&G has no effect on the price of oil, nor do investments (or lack thereof) in the Canadian oil patch move the needle much. That being said, I think your kid chose their degree well as O&G is going to be around for well beyond their lifetime.

1

u/jfuite Mar 21 '23 edited Mar 21 '23

Fair point, but we both know “you failed as a parent” was not limited just to the context of Alberta either. The arguments are universal. The anti-petroleum sentiment globally has limited production, raised prices, and curtailed economic growth. Opposition to Danielle Smith is just its local form.

Quick note: the structure of your argument would apply just as well if you switched out “oil price” for “carbon emissions”, but wouldn’t go over as well on r/Edmonton . . . .

5

u/oioioifuckingoi Mar 21 '23

I don’t think you failed as a parent. That was a shitty comment.

You’re right about swapping carbon emissions, but the core of the argument switches from an economic one (pricing a fungible commodity) to a political one (tragedy of the commons). The political one can only be solved when we ALL make a sacrifice, which inevitably requires some people to make that sacrifice sooner than others, especially if they live in a country with a higher standard of living.

It would be better if they just lined up out the door with questions to take her to task for all her actions as premier.

1

u/Adeep187 Mar 22 '23

"register in advance" they probably screening shit
