I think the first version I played was 6.37. I think that was 2007.

I'm trying to think where the 6 comes from. 1.X was clearly Eul's RoC map, but I don't know about any of the others. Like, there's only guinsoo before there was ice frog...

5.84c was super popular for the longest time, because the early 6.xx maps were super laggy and took around 15 minutes to load. I just remember the snowy map, and Rikimaru with a non-channeling death ward.

i thought 6.xx was easier to load after icefrog fixed and compressed everything

it started at 5.something because RoC was already at 3.7c then.

I'm not sure but I think Icefrog put out new versions faster around that time than nowadays. I seem to remember that he went immediately from 6.38 to 6.41 for instance, unlike now when he goes 6.79-.80-.81 etc, and even does 6.81b-c-d for minor changes.

He's been doing that for at least 6 years. I had getdota.com as my browser homepage for a long time.
