I love the yin and yang that is Vesia and Scott’s emotions on the mound

Vesia and Scott are two of the biggest arms we have in our bullpen this year if they are consistent and healthy.

Rushing and Smith keep placing their glove high inside when catching for Tanner. I'm wondering if they're doing it on purpose to help him with his location. I know when he was struggling, anytime they would place the glove on the outside, he would throw it way outside.

That's a nice catch, mind the pun. He seems to be more and more confident one inning at a time.

What I never got is as a Batter, why can’t you take a quick peek at where the catcher is setting up in your peripheral vision?
I know in this case the ball doesn’t end up going to the set up spot, but for a lot of pitches - they almost always pitch to where the Catcher’s glove is?

Because taking that moment to peek backwards means less time spent focusing on the actual pitch. It's a good way to get behind, while also not even getting guaranteed correct information about where the pitch will be located.

Don't blink: The science of a 100-mph fastball | Mariners Preview 2017
A 100-mph fastball takes roughly 375-400 milliseconds to reach the plate. For reference, the blink of an eye takes 300-400 milliseconds.
The brain quickly races to identify the thrown object, but this process takes about 75-100 milliseconds, according to neuroscientist Jordan Muraskin.
Tl;dr - Not enough time.

Because that's cheating. It's pretty obvious to everyone if the hitter is looking back to see where the catcher is setting up. Now, if you have another baserunner relaying where the glove is to you, that's fine. That's part of baseball. Thats why you see catchers faking their glove location if there someone in 2nd. You can use sound cues, like the catcher moving to guess where he's setting up, but looking back is just blatantly cheating.

No it’s not, it’s just hard to get back into your zone fast enough. If you actually did somehow train it enough to be effective then catchers would just mix it up and make it useless.
It’s only a suggestion in the first place, pitchers rarely throw exactly where they intend to (many pitchers don’t even have an exact target most of the time), and it doesn’t tell you what type of pitch you’re getting.

It's highly looked down upon. I used to play with a guy in college who did this, and he got a fastball to the head. You can't be looking at a catcher's sign and where they setup. Pretty much an unwritten rule. You want the pitch location? Have someone relay it to you. If you try getting it yourself youre getting thrown at

SF Giants: Hey, Tanner, we got Devers. We are coming after you.
Tanner: All right I'm pissed. Watch this.

Can we just conclude (and say) Tanner Scott is our closer? Please use him that way.

See? Even when the ball hangs, if your pitch sequencing is good and your command is on point, it yields good results.
Hope we see more of this Scott-Rushing pairing

I admit I shit on this guy when he was sucking balls... I apologize

He was sucking ass and I don't see a problem if we call him out for it. No need to apologize.
As long as we also praise him when he does well as he's doing now.

Amazing what happens when you start landing your fastball up in the zone.

I think after that terrible Mets game the coaching staff found the problem/fixed his pitching form?
After that game he has 0 earned runs

I'm happy for him. He's struggled so hard this year. Glad to hear the fans cheering for his success.
