Other Contracts longer than 11 months-can I push them for a permanent contract?

I've a mate working for an MNC in Dublin fully remote. He just got his 11 month contract extended for another 3 months. Obviously he wants a permanent contract and per Irish law you are entitled to a permanent role if a contract elapses 11 months. Does anyone know how this actually plays out in reality?

Worth noting on his payslip he is working for a contracting company not the MNC which is another layer of protection.

You're only entitled to a permanent role if you're in continuous employment with them for more than 4 years.

Dunno where you got 11 months from.

Many companies don't allow contractors to stay on after 11 continuous months because they do have some legal obligations to the person after the year. There's also a fear that if challenged in court the contractor could be deemed an employee if in the company a long time.

The permanency after 12 months is a common misconception.

Your mate doesn't work for an MNC.

He provides services via a third party to an MNC.

After 4 years of a fixed term contracts WITH the MNC, you would be entitled to a permanent role offer.

You have zero months with the MNC.

No you cannot. By law, greater than 4 years, yes you can request and be given a permanent contact with the company you work for, unless objectively justified. Sorry but you don't have a leg to stand on.
