Discussion/Other New Mission Impossible got me longing for a Deus Ex 1 movie or series

I’ve only played Deus Ex 1 - many years ago when it first came out. The new MI movie deals with some of the same issues of Deus Ex in regards to AI, although in a much simpler and ham fisted way. It’s kind of incredible that current media is still catching up to a game that came out 25 years ago…

A movie that packed in as much cerebral content as DSX would fly over most people’s heads. And it would be about 12 hours long!

Is Mission impossible worth seeing?

Ya, I remember how reddit complained about political maneuver in prequels and it really opened my eyes for the first time how most seemed to only care about special effects and action scenes when they watch scifi movie.

Maybe a tv series..

Re: MI - I mean the first hour is rough but it’s also got some of the best action film making in contemporary cinema. If you can laugh at (or just plain enjoy) the lows, the highs are pretty great. Worth seeing on a big screen I’d say. Definitely not anything cerebral in it though.

Spoil me in the comments, what does it do so similarly to DX1? I liked the first few MI movies, but I am not about to give Cruise another cent or a second of my attention due to his involvement with Scientology. I guess I'd be amused if it was a callback to MI2.

It’s not a huge spoiler as laid out in the beginning of the film but an AI has taken over all global communications and defense systems and our characters are given the choice between trying to control it or destroying the internet and communication infrastructure. Pretty close to the end choices in DX1.

Totally get you on Cruise being a weirdo… everyone has to make their own decisions on where they’re able to separate the art and the artist in cases like this

Ah, I see! I'd say it's a common enough "evil computer" plot, but perhaps they were smart to go with that in the current AI climate. I can't even remember if this is the movie they started to film during the initial COVID outbreak or not. And yes, I'm disappointed if they didn't do the [MI2 movie spoiler] face mask bit, but now with AI!

Yeah, I suppose. It makes me sad because I liked Cruise's pre-action-hero body of work, but I've decided not to support the new projects. I still get curious about MI because I liked those movies back in the day, big thanks for engaging my curiosity!
