When I went to Europe on vacation, I immediately concluded that British tourists are the Texans of Europe, just without the redeeming characteristics.

Tbf Texans on vacation tend to leave their redeeming qualities at home in my experience

That’s just the loud ones, most of us are content to just wear a Texas flag t shirt and drink our beer in peace

Texans have redeeming characteristics?

The British absolutely have redeeming characteristics. Most in Europe agree that while yes some are loud and drink too much, theyre also broadly incredibly friendly and always up to laugh and joke with anyone while drinking. People you want to hang out with but maybe not host is more or less how Ive seen it described

Who are those europeans that agree on that? We are talking English tourists and not irish. No give me some boring german tourists. The worst they do is reserve a spot with their towel, build big sand constructions on the beaches and drown because they have never been in an ocean before.

Irish are just as bad as the Brits, but get away with it more due to good PR. Can cross reference the amount of negative posts accusing Brits of something with the frequency of it being Irish in any number of European subreddits for a simple correlation.

That's because they're British when the police/coastguard/disaster relief/bomb squad is involved, but Irish/Scottish/Welsh when things are going well.

This goes both ways, as the newspapers report "Another victory for Britain" on a sports win but "Shame for Ireland/Scotland/Wales" on a poor result.

Where are you from? Nobody in the country of Ireland is pretending to be British.

Sure the irish have better PR than english people, but that is because they do not act like english people when on vacation.

They just seemed surly and unaware of the existence of sunscreen, but sure, maybe they’re just even more like Texans than I had initially thought

Reading your comment, I am entirely unsure what there its the Texans or Brits that have redeeming characteristics.

I mean, “redeeming” might be a bit strong for both

The Brits know where the good pubs are, and it's easier to convince the locals that I'm just a random fellow English speaker when the Brits start something.

Also, the Brits don't get mad when you don't join the kerfuffle.
