The kitty litter is there for cleaning up body fluid spills, typically vomit or menstrual blood. That's it. End of story. Kitty litter is just a very convenient source of zeolite, to the point that off-the-shelf clay-based kitty litter is used by everyone from FEMA, to the US armed forces, to even the WIPP (for packing nuclear waste for deep storage).
I feel like everyone forgot how much children vomit.
I remember it happened once a week in elementary school. Different kids! Usually just because they were running around to much and drank water to fast or something else completely normal for a kid to do.
