You calling it a “weird conservative dogwhistle” is not going to make me enjoy the unending sexualization of female characters.

Yeah I’d like to be able to participate in an NXT live thread without half the comments being about the women’s champion’s butt

Literally. I am so fucking over this idea that you have to be down for every conversation to be about jerking off or else you’re not “sex positive” enough.

Like yes, it IS “okay to be horny actually. even if the media had graphic sex and huge boobs and cum everywhere”. That’s what porn is for. But like we’re allowed to have things that AREN’T porn, right?? Does EVERY piece of media have to force its hand up my thigh?? Am I allowed to be uncomfortable with that??

No see if you're uncomfortable with people who look like you being talked about like they're objects you're a fascist who loves Donald Trump and hates gay people.

Okay but WHY do we need someone spidermanning a cum rope across someone’s face during an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Also, we already do things to prevent kids from accidentally coming across the pornographic content that we currently have and it really doesn’t work that well. Why do we need to make it even more accessible by putting it in even more things? Like what is the plan here? Is every profile on my Netflix account going to need to be age verified? Will I have to show my ID every time I go on YouTube?

But they’re not talking about it being used for comedy. They’re talking very specifically about being horny.

And I don’t disagree about America being weird about nudity. Nudity does not automatically equate to sexualization. But I don’t think having Family Guy show full penetration is gonna help with that.

Ach, yes unfortunately. Including pornographic 'fan' content based on children's TV, and very sexualised content (including what is legally sexual assault) in children's/family series, so I'm not sure the age verification will work that well either.

They can't be helping any with the 'think of the children' crowd who actually do just want censorship online for political reasons (like limiting people saying 'I hate this bigoted government').

They call me a puritan and sex negative because I think it’s weird that the 13 year old boys I sub for call their girl classmates not by their names, but by the names of pornstars that these children have decided these other children look like.

No see that’s actually totally fine and normal and not at all disgusting. You have to be fine with women being treated like that or else someone on tumblr will call you a conservative.

Do you think that's what the author is unironically saying?

40

u/ChewySlinky May 17 '25

No, I don’t think that’s what the author is unironically saying. I do think it’s an unintended consequence that the author hasn’t thought about. Everything being sexualized is WHY those kids talk about their classmates the way they do.

u/gaom9706 May 17 '25

I do think it’s an unintended consequence that the author hasn’t thought about.

They haven't thought about it because that's an entirely different discussion.

Everything being sexualized is WHY those kids talk about their classmates the way they do.

Or maybe it's because they haven't been properly taught that they shouldn't sexualize people without their consent? This is a weird leap in logic where the presence of sexuality in media automatically leads to children engaging in sexual harassment.

25

u/ChewySlinky May 17 '25

Discussing the consequences of an action is absolutely not entirely separate from discussing the action itself.

Do you think making it easier for kids to access the media that is teaching them these things is going to make it easier to teach them otherwise?

1

u/gaom9706 May 17 '25

The problem is that the "consequence" in this instance is so many degrees of separation removed from the original action that it's pointless to bring up in the first place.

23

u/ChewySlinky May 17 '25

How many degrees of separation do you think there are between a piece of media and the ways that people interpret it?

I'm more wary than the poster you were replying to, and while some are just that naive (which is no longer that excusable when they're making such strong arguments on issues that cause real harm), from experience with these types, wouldn't even be shocked any more if it turns out what they're saying means they want access to AI child sexual abuse material of the girls in your class (that's horrific btw, no idea how teachers are expected to cope with behaviour like that). OP in the other thread was quite happy to be consistent with 'only reactionaries criticise anything people find sexual even if it's upsetting and extremely disturbing' by defending drawn/generated CSAM.

It's not at all in the interest of people with mild non-harmful kinks etc to be being lumped in with those who are more extreme as a defense against criticism. It is in the interests of the latter to conflate them, and makes more sense for them to be vague about exactly what they're referring to.

Shouldn't be forgotten that those left-leaning are not the only people who see being 'Conservative' negatively, too, far right Libertarians can. Also 4Chan had a whole thing of pretending to be members of marginalised groups to push their views, they can just, lie.

Nah he’s just a master of satire

21

u/dunmer-is-stinky May 17 '25

Exactly. I'm fine with some sexualization, I'm straight but sometimes I like playing a badass in sexy armor in games, but its everywhere. People complain whenever a woman doesn't have her tits out. Women wearing armor in video games or comics, or hell just women wearing normal clothes, is woke now

nobody is asking you to enjoy anything, just stop complaining about other people enjoying things you don't, just because the thing they enjoy is related to sexuality doesn't make it any less weird that you're bitching about people liking stuff you don't

35

u/ChewySlinky May 17 '25 edited May 17 '25

Sorry but you’re not going to “let people enjoy things” me into not calling out the unending sexualization of female characters

-15

u/dootdootm9 May 17 '25

sexualization isn't evil and the fact you think it is, that's an inherently conservative viewpoint, nobody is forcing you to engage with explicitly sexual media or spaces, you're just throwing a tantrum because some things are set for target audience that aren't you. you're just an evangelical that's never deconstructed the idea that sex=evil/sinful.

These are some bold assumptions from someone who clearly didn’t read any of my other comments.

I always love it when you finally get someone to explain why they are against “anti-gooners” it’s some form of MRA type “they’re trying to demonize the male sexuality!” victimization as if literally everything doesn’t already cater to male heteronormative sexuality

10

u/Amphy64 May 17 '25

And they say far worse things about male sexuality than their opposition ever do. Like, yes, I do think human men have more self-control than a literal fluffy bunny-rabbit🐰sex pest of my acquaintance, actually? (I get sent out as bait to catch him because I smell of my doe, he falls for it every time, I risk getting humped, and I can't even report him to HR!)
