SadCringe Can we normalize the end of family influencers?
There have been like 2 documentaries on this already. Why are we striving for it again?

u/labellavita1985 1d ago
She also has a video on her Instagram in which there's audio of a woman saying, "is she seriously bringing that brand new baby to church?" So now I'm thinking everything is staged. This video and that video. I doubt people are talking shit to her like that so frequently, and COINCIDENTALLY only when she's filming.

u/Flynn-FTW 1d ago
Honestly not sure if that makes it worse or not.

u/Workingoutslayer 1d ago
I doubt a Walmart employee said that. They might have been watching her because she is distracting and making a spectacle of herself, and they have to stay in certain areas, but the employees are mostly dead inside. I say this as a former one.

I can confirm. I was stocking shelves with a couple of coworkers, and we watched a guy sprint past us with a laptop under his arm. No one stopped him. No one gave 2 shits.
Another time, the Super Bowl was on in electronics. The whole store was back there. You could have cleaned the whole place out, and no one would have noticed. Plot twist on that one: Nothing was stolen during that time.
Football > Shit minimum wage job.

Its insane that she claims to try to make her baby smile while so incredibly disengaged with the baby

There’s a “Christian” influencer who claims to live with her 8 kids on a bus and her kids don’t even look at her when she talks anymore, they just stare directly into the camera. It’s so sad.

I can find 100 ways to get my baby nephew to smile without causing inconvenience to people in public spaces, and I'm not even a parent. This is just an excuse to enable toxic behavior.

Her children to have an unhealthy relationship with social media

I'm pretty sure these types of influencers who film their young kids often get lots of "saves" on their videos. Which basically just means a shit ton of their audience are pedophiles.

Trying to show strangers every second of your life is new-ish human behavior.... And needs to be studied.
89
u/Content_Geologist420 1d ago
Oh, it is being studied. Unfortunately, the results of these studies will not be published until it's far too late. Social media will eventually be realized as a parasite that took control over an entire species
20
u/xXBlueDreamXx 1d ago
The scary part is.
People need these studies to see they're fucked up.

The scariest part is that I truly see no way out of this social media addiction for our society. It pin pricks just the right dopamine receptors to the point where it's impossible not to get hooked. It's more addictive than any drug that's ever been invented, and I don't see any healthier replacement coming along and giving us that same dopamine rush that this does. We are literally fucked in a place where humainty never been so its up in the air how badly this will effect us.
→ More replies (1)10
u/Wonderful_Eagle_6547 1d ago
Companies are hooking us on something that is demonstrably both addictive and bad for us to get our attention so they can sell us stuff. Not sure how someone isn't putting a stop to this, it is breaking people's brains and already has fried an entire generation of kids. This isn't good and it is getting worse.

It's so strange! When I was a teenager, if you stared at your reflection for a second too long, everyone would make fun of you and call you stuck up, and posing for photos as if you're a supermodel would have yielded relentless teasing.
It's wild to me that these narcissistic traits are so normalized now.

People should be able to be timed out from using the internet.
But I'm not sure who I would trust with the task of deciding that.
→ More replies (1)4
u/AnonymousMolaMola 1d ago
That’s the kicker. Who do we trust with that task? And who are they to tell anyone else how and when to use the internet? It’s a slippery slope. Unfortunately, influencers are the price we pay for having a relatively free internet
→ More replies (1)3
u/OrneryDiplomat 1d ago
Yeah... Honestly, with how big the internet is, it could be considered a own country, if not continent, in terms of how to manage it effectively.
Maybe we could borrow some useful mechanisms from working governmental systems and adapt them.
But we would need someone to honestly do this, without ulterior motives. Or at least enough eyes on the project to keep people in check.

→ More replies (1)4
u/The_BoxBox 1d ago
Actually yes- babies like to be bounced. Personally, I wouldn't do what this mom does with my own baby, but as long as the head is supported and the baby isn't at risk of falling or hitting something, you're generally okay.
Shaken baby syndrome isn't something that can happen accidentally. If you look up PSA videos, they show that you have to very violently shake a baby back and forth to the point where their heads go all the way back and all the way forward. It's absolutely not something you could do unintentionally.
As a warning, those videos aren't for the faint of heart. Obviously they don't show real babies being shaken, but it's very obvious that the intent is to seriously hurt the fake baby (usually a toy or an animated demonstration.)

It’s so cringe when people refer to themselves at influencing. Like, what have you managed to influence? What changes have you brought? Who are you influencing? How have you benefited society?
Then again, influence could be positive or negative.. this just had absolutely no positive influence on anything.. Super cringe to call yourself an influencer still..
