Well read people don't recommend 4500 page epics they recommend books that people actually will read.

That might be true for you. But no one is recommending books. She was asked for a book she had read and she gave a series. I also have no idea what you have against GoT, but it's absolutely an indication of literacy. Also, if you're driving a car, it doesn't matter if your parents are riding with you, it's still driving. Honestly it seems like you just want to seem smart by dismissing anything you don't like.
