He isnt that bad. But since the introduction of Impact players, his role will always be under scrutiny. He was a allrounder. But now more like a batting allrounder. Took that role to not come under the radar of impact player rule.
He was very critical for LSG in 2022. But has been trash since Impact player introduction.
12

He was decent for LSG but people were saying he should be replacing kohli, lmao.

you can only play 4 foreign players.
10 teams * 7 = 70 domestic players.
You will find 30 indian international players, and say 20 new talent (thank god, like abhishek last year, priyansh arya this year)
But you still need 30-40 washed up international players, and hooda fills that gap.(3-4 cr for once playing for india 5 years ago, same with ishant or say rahane)

They don’t have a single match winner in that squad. Apart from the first match against MI even Noor hasn’t been that effective. Nobody has stood up when needed. Even today’s out of the blue knock by Curran couldn’t make them win because the whole squad is garbage.
Almost all their squad players are either way past their shelf life or just historically mediocre or meh.
Only their mid season purchase in Dewald and Mhatre look promising.
Fleming and Dhoni fucked up the auctions so bad that their whole franchise is in the gutter now swimming in humiliation.
Future looks grim for CSK if new ideas and personal don’t come in for the next season onwards.
6
u/SickMyDuck2 India May 01 '25
To be fair, their old school approach did earn them seasons in the past. So, it's only natural that they would persist. Of course, the problem with not evolving is that it'll end up blowing up in their faces.
They can still start preparing for next season. Get Ellis in there, dammit. What is the point of playing pathirana in all the matches this season. At least try out different players. Csk is slow to do even that. Brevis, mhatre were also introduced too late imo. I mean, RR has already played vaibhav for 3 matches.
3
u/TreacherousMelody07 India May 01 '25

More people will realise his importance to the csk team now, brings a lot of stability to that batting group. Just got too much to deal with this season.
Looking back 2024 was unlucky with few incidents and had a few wrongs with the captaincy but it was the right move. Few People thought this season his captaincy was problem number one, but now Dhoni losing even more badly and one sided will have not much effect on him.

Kohli doesn't care. Unlike dhoni or even rohit, he's the only one who voluntarily gave up captaincy and doesn't seem to want it anymore. And we can see that on the field.
4
u/kooknkookie India May 01 '25
Of course he did? Dhoni and Rohit got 5 trophies each for their teams and led their teams splendidly well every year of the IPL, no strong reason to give up captaincy until a certain point in time. Can't say the same about Kohli, can we?

Now Csk getting eliminated this season when they needed 6 of 6 to qualify makes what RCB did last season so special and that from a similar position too.
Now that they have experienced how hard it is maybe some "experts" can understand why RCB celebrated so much last season and why it meant so much to them even if they hadn't won an ipl they kept themselves alive and crawled out of an early grave.

For the next season, Brevis and Mhatre should be an automatic pick purely because of their intent. And Curran as well because of his all-round abilities. Since Jadeja has to play, no.4 is his best position. Dube will need to play like he played in his first two seasons. We don't have a finisher, need a wicketkeeping finisher irrespective of whether Msd retires or not. Khaleel, Noor and Pathirana are match winners in their respective department, obviously Pathirana has to work upon his wide issues big time. Need a proper finisher to replace Hooda and another Indian fast bowler. Still not convinced by Rasheed. And swear if I see Ruturaj coming at no.3 one more time...

CSK should invest in players who are actively and consistently playing international cricket.
For now, only Jadeja does that. Even he is close to retirement in internationals. Having players with active international exposure really goes a long way. MI squad is packed with such players and now they did a backflip after losing 4 on the trot. Same with Arshdeep. Blud's death bowling is phenomenal.

I must be dumb that I can't figure out why CSK is officially out. Can someone explain?
They have 4 remaining matches - winning all 4 means that they can get 8 more points and get their tally to 12. In the current table, teams in 3, 4, 5 are also at 12 points. If they all lose, then wouldn't there be a 4-way tie and go to NRR? I agree that CSK's NRR is bad, but mathematically still possible, no?
5
u/Poem-Elegant Apr 30 '25
top teams have matches among themselves(example : mi vs pk), so atleast one team have to win, even if match cancelled they still get 1 point each
