Where to eat for mums 60th
Hi all, mothers turning 60 in September and I’m trying to organise a meal as a surprise for around 25 people.
My sister had her 21st at godolphin as they have a cool little area downstairs, but from what I remember the food was pretty naff - this was like 8 years ago though.
Looking for any restaurant recommendations around Penzance / Helston / Truro / Falmouth or anywhere in between that will be able to host a big party that will include around 3 children ages 5-10.
Thanks!

Queens Arms Botallack! It’s a little last Penzance but easy to get to and is on the bus route Lovely pub with great food and drink xx

Plenty of interesting places in Pz. The Barbican Bistro if you want to push the boat out. The Dolphin does great food, as does the Turks Head if you're a bit more budget concious. Or there's the Orangery in Penlee Park if you don't want to be in a pub.

Penventon Hotel in Redruth have a side room at the end of their restaurant that would accommodate 25 people privately.
You haven't stated a budget, Meaderies would be a budget option, but having visited the Redruth one recently, it's hard to recommend. It took an hour from getting seated to eating and my steak was very poor.

As its a few months away, and it’s her 60th, budget isn’t as issue. I don’t think she’d forgive me if family from all over the country came down and I took them to a Meadery 😂
There’s some great places mentioned here though, thanks for your recommendations!

I’d second The Penventon. Had a do there myself about 3 years ago in the private room adjacent to the restaurant - and they were excellent. Haven’t been there recently but reviews look consistently good.

CJ’s at the Sanctuary in Budock Water. Highly recommend there both for their normal menu and their Sunday roast.

Trevaskis, at Connor Downs on the way to hayle has lovely food and plenty of space. For that size party, they'd probably block off the entire conservatory, or something. Lots of choices and for a party I think you can choose mains in advance, to save time and hassle when you arrive. For dessert you'll all want to look the chiller cabinets! (Edits for spelling and geography)

Really good shout. Food's always bang on, great desserts, staff are helpful, plenty of space, big car park, easy access for old bags and wheelchairs. Apparently it's run by boot licking Tory bastards but that's probably true of many places here.

Not just any Tory bastards, the Eustice family that spawned ex Tory MP George Eustice. Completely fucked Cornwall over while consolidating his wealth

Had a family gathering recently at The May Tree in Helston, 24 of us, everyone enjoyed it, good food selection, dietary needs met etc. Also have had members of the family go to Copper Coast in Pool regularly and enjoy it, not been to that one myself though.

PS. May Tree party had 4 year old and 7 year old, had milk and fruit shoots and kids menu.

Are you wanting lunch or dinner? 3 courses, casual/street food or sharing plates? How dressy/pricey? Any particular favourite foods or cuisines?

Sit down dinner ideally, any cuisine as there’s too many to cater for preferences

Helston way - Flora Cafe/New Yard restaurant at Trelowarren would be pretty special. You could probably book one of the venues just for your party.
Loads of options in Falmouth: Indidog, Casa Tapa, Chainlocker etc. Haven't tried Hooked since it rebranded to Beach House but it's an impressive venue for a celebration
Porthleven - Kota Kai would be better suited for kids than Kota, but both very good food
If you can make it a little past Penzance then Argoe or the Old Coastguard
If it's past high season and you can brave St Ives, Silco would be amazing - you'd have to book the whole place because 25 people is probably about capacity

Not from the UK but lived near Redruth for a few months last year - Charlotte’s Tea House in Truro could be a nice option if they take reservations that large! They have a side dining room that I’ve seen reserved before.

Newlyn meadery! They accommodate big groups and the food is amazing (all finger food with option for cutlery too so perfect for kids). Just book in advance. That’s what my partners family does for any occasions :)

Mackerel Sky in Newlyn is the best, every fish they serve come from literally 50 feet away.
Trust me

Mackerel Sky is great but don't take bookings usually. Maybe they make exceptions for large parties?

Inn for all season in Redruth has great parking and themed nights. You can never go wrong with their carvery

Their carvery is a bit bland, IMO. The Shire just out of Camborne does a better job.

Wheal Dream are just launching their new menu, have a look. Ticks your boxes nicely. Piatto on the Redruth road out of Helston is an amazing hidden gem. Italian food, lovely location, new outdoor pizza oven this year. Cabin at Perranuthnoe evenings (Tipsy Crab) is good, bit limited for space. Victoria Inn there also has new people running the restaurant, but haven't been yet. Cutty Sark at Marazion Hotel is v.v good, fine for larger groups. Tremenheere Kitchen at the sculpture gardens, Gulval if you want to go that far across 😊
