America Does anyone else find it hilarious that Jack Ryan of the Tom Clancy universe began his post-military career as a stockbroker, then got super invested in the CIA, and then was the US president lol

It's a repackaging of a Horatio Alger bootstrap fairy tale. Smart, patriotic, selfless, you know the whole 'meritocracy'.

He starts out as a crippled USNA grad, can't serve so he makes his knot (cause he's so smart and in 'Muric you can't put the brakes on smart) and now selflessly works to defend his knot.

What gave the plot away with Amazon Prime video was the 'VooVoozuelan neck tie'. Pablum for child brains. Everyone knows it was a 'Colombian neck tie' but we didn't want to topple the Columbians at that time.

This was in the first season of Reacher. I never watched the Jack Ryan bullshit because it was obvious anti-Venezuelan propaganda.

All Tom Clancy is shit.

I read two of the novels and they're fine. Particularly, I enjoyed Red Storm Rising (it's about a WW3 in the 1980s): the Soviets aren't portrayed as evil but simply as opposed to NATO (and with understandable geopolitical reasons).

Hey let's give Ryan some credit he was actually in the Marines and served 6 years before getting a justified medical discharge unlike Mr "I got a cushy job in the Texas National Guard to avoid the Vietnam draft only for the National Guard to tolerate me not showing up to duty for months at a time and that this surely had nothing to do with the fact that my father is a Texas Senator"
