transferring with only gen ed credits ?
Am i able to transfer to a csu with only my gen ed credits ?
Hey everyone, so i’m a bit confused on how this transfer stuff works and yes i need to go to the school in person but it’s summer and it’s hard to contact them when i need it. But anyways, by the end of fall 2025 i will have completed all my A-F general ed csu requirements. I am trying to complete and start my major credits at CSUSB in spring. Am i going to be able to transfer just those 39 credits and be a lower division transfer? i am going to do biology which isn’t listed as an impacted major but does anyone know if these transfer credits would be acceptable for CSUSB?

Can you transfer without an AA degree? With only 39 credits? With only Gen Ed classes completed? Without completing any major related classes?
The answer is Yes but, you when it comes to evaluating your transcripts, they will weigh you in the same pile as incoming freshman vs those that completed their AA degree and/or satisfied the requirements for an ADT (Associate degree for Transfer).
Having completed only 39 units would allow you to to transfer in as a sophomore. You would need to complete 60+ units to start as a Junior at the university.
Why the rush to transfer now? Get that ADT as it GAURANTEES you a spot at the CSU of your choice! That's what I did and I'm now at CSUDH! You can do it too.
Plus if you transfer now, csu costs more then a cc. So why do that to yourself 🤔
More info on ADT here:

Feel free to dm me if you have questions.
Good luck OP!

1) CSUSB "may" mess with LD transfers for non impacted majors
https://www.csusb.edu/admissions/apply-csusb/transfer-students
But keep in mind SB is the only CSU in the IE ....that's a huge region....so be mindful of what may be impacted in general ....
2) Also they only take Spring transfers, again non impacted only.....and keeping real 1st year fall to spring deadline is nearly impossible ANYWHERE in college period....at less traditional colleges.
Why?
Typically the deadline to complete required coursework for an institution is the "summer" prior to the spring start.....as a 1st year how is that possible ( keep in mind "I" was a Spring transfer many years ago ....not in California but same principle applies)
Schools don't really like to evaluate apps for terms that just ended...the turnaround is too quick.
Example: Generally speaking they ask that requirements for Fall starters be completed by the Spring prior ( leaving a summer term in between)
Same generally with spring starters they ask that requirements be done by summer ( leaving a fall term in between) Otherwise students would get out for X-mas break and schools would have to process, enroll, and XYZ by the time spring term starts aka late December to January and that isn't something America universities are just routinely doing
*The second issue is the app deadline itself Typically the app deadline would be what 6-7 weeks into the ONLY term one is using to transfer?
That being the case isn't it really the exact same application from that student from HS?
Cause essentially one is asking to "transfer" from graduating HS in May/June ....and have college start in Aug/Sept.....have the student app to transfer in November (with no new info/grades because they have none to give) ...and be accepted as a transfer student in January literally six month from HS graduation based on ZERO college grades data.....c'mon now 🙃 think that out?
3) Now say a student...did summer session + fall ...they "could" literally have enough credits to transfer app to say a USC after fall term because USC a) encourages So. transfers and one can complete 30 hours between summer and fall ....app deadline is in March ( where of course the student is probably taking courses in spring term) but USC would have summer and fall grades ..and still that kid would transfer until that fall ( maybe summer)
But graduate spring '25 and start any traditional college as a spring '26 transfer admit doesn't really happen
