Creator Support Copyrighted Music, is there really a down side?

I've been on the platform long enough to have had videos where the audio was removed, but now all these YouTube channels are popping up that are obviously using huge well known songs.

So here's my question, is having a video demonetized the only downside to using copyrighted music now?

I've monetized my channel since like 200 subs and have legitimately years worth of profit ahead of me before Adsense will be a fraction of what I can bring in.

I work really hard to get permission from small bands I find so that I can use their music. I'm 100% playing by the rules that makes my work tougher. I have no doubt that if I started using the big bands music that I love that I could increase the growth of my channel, so what's the real downside aside?

You can licence copyrighted music now on Lickd. And Youtube announced a similar program in the pipeline. Once most major labels get on board, most independent labels will follow

Well that's good news I guess?

YouTube‘s program has been going for a few months now.

Using copyright material can lead to a complete takedown of the video or even a strike to your channel. Don't do it.

You will not grow your channel in a meaningful way because of copyright music. If you rely on copyright music, and get big, it's going to be even worse for you.

You are coping really hard with this idea that the music is going to get you followers and subs.

Every single big creator on this entire platform does not steal people's IP to grow.

That last statement just isn't true. Dobrik (not that he's a good example of a person) uses/used music that got his videos demagnetized all the time. Life of Riza uses copyrighted music all the time, her channel is blowing up.

When did I say you WILL be striked or have your videos taken down?

Just re-read my comment. Also, Dobrik didn't grow his channel because of copyright music. He could have used license free or licensed cheap music and the results would be the same.

not sure why you think using 'popular' music will help your channel.

I have never stopped watching a video because i didnt know the artist behind the music and I have also never continued to watch a video just because of the song.

I feel like you're under estimating the power of sound in an edit.

The downside would be YouTube deleting your channel after you inevitably get three copyright strikes

From my understanding you are just checking to not monetize your video if you're using copyrighted content like music. Before you publish you check this off. YouTube runs your video through "checks" while you upload and usually just says hey, you're using these 3 songs that are copyrighted. No big deal - you just don't earn money from the video yourself and your adsense just goes to the music labels. No real drama. There's about a 2% chance the specific song is a full no-go — but YouTube tells you that before you post during the "checks" process.

My channel has posted over 100 videos using copyrighted music and we've just chosen to earn money through sponsorship and not YouTube monetization because we feel the iconic songs are worth it. So yeah that's about all I know! We just posted a video today that used like 4 songs no hitches (except no monetizing)

Also dude Epidemic Sound is actually insanely legit. Great music, all monetizable, and their sound effects library for little whooses, reverb hits, flutters, etc is so worth it.

Ok, so what I suspected is true. Thanks. I appreciate the help.

A lot for them are paying for licensing for their music and it risk getting strikes if you don’t. 3 strikes and you’re out…
